Chapter 27 A Breakup Argument
"You guys carry on, I'm going back home," Charlie said, suppressing his anger before turning to Dylan. He then dragged me away.
Dylan just stood there expressionless, seemingly figuring out my intentions.
Being pulled by Charlie, I couldn't keep up with his pace and almost stumbled.
"Charlie, are you crazy? Can't you let me go to the bathroom and change my dress first?" I angrily scolded Charlie.
He finally remembered why I asked Dylan to buy the sanitary pads. His face darkened, and he brought me to the restroom with a grim expression. "Go in and change, quickly!"
I twisted my wrist. I must admit that he was really rough. He almost left bruises on me.
Could Lauren handle him, considering she was a little overweight compared to me?
I couldn't help but imagine Charlie and Lauren in bed. At first, Charlie must have been very dominant, and later, Lauren must have gradually fallen in love with him. Their intimate moments must have become affectionate and gentle.
Crazy, why am I thinking of such explicit scenes? I quickly changed my clothes, pushed those thoughts out of my mind, and left the restroom.
Charlie glanced at me. "Let's go back."
It seemed like his anger had lessened a lot.
I sent a message to my best friends' group chat and then followed Charlie home. I wanted to see what he had in store for me later.
Unexpectedly, he didn't say a word throughout the journey, as if he was a sculpture that knew how to drive. When we got home, Charlie went to the study alone, while I went to take a shower and prepared to rest.
Just as I finished blow-drying my hair, Charlie walked in. I couldn't describe the look in his eyes, but it made me feel uneasy.
"Rosalie, let's talk," Charlie calmly said.
I nodded. Ten minutes later, I summarized Charlie's intention.
Apart from doing our own thing, there were additional requirements: not to sleep with his friends, and also not to post any status updates. We also couldn't let our parents know about it, making it three in total.
"Charlie, why didn't you just choose to divorce me?" I asked with a touch of sadness.
"We don't have a reason for divorce," Charlie responded frankly and left.
I had a feeling that tonight's conversation had something to do with Lauren. Perhaps it was to make an agreement with me, asking not to interfere with his pursuit of Lauren. He didn't realize he would be completely engulfed in love in the future.
From that day on, Charlie seemed to have vanished, not returning to Maple Villa for nearly half a month. I resumed my solitary life, but this time with a few more servants.
"You're not children anymore. Face your problems with maturity. Arguing and giving each other the silent treatment won't help." I overheard Elizabeth talking on the phone one afternoon.
She was hiding below the stairs, speaking in a hushed voice. I stood on the staircase and listened closely to what she was saying.
"Jason is a good kid, and he treats you well. Your dad and I feel at ease when you two are together. No matter what happens, communicate well, understand?"
I could tell Elizabeth was very satisfied with Jason.
Did Lauren and Jason have a fight? I calculated the time in my mind.
Charlie must have put in a lot of effort during this half month. Otherwise, how could he make a loving couple fight so quickly?
I didn't want to care anymore. I would just act indifferent until Charlie brought up divorce, and I would gladly sign the papers. With that in mind, I turned around to go upstairs.
"Madam, may I take half a day off?" Elizabeth stopped me unexpectedly. She hesitantly continued, "There's something going on at home that needs to be handled. You can deduct it from my salary."
I had no choice but to pause and turn around to look down at Elizabeth, revealing a caring expression. "What happened? Elizabeth, let me give you a ride. It's a good opportunity for me to go out as well."
Elizabeth was taken aback by the offer. "It's not necessary for you to give me a ride, madam. I can take a taxi."
"It's hard to get a taxi near Maple Villa. Don't worry, wait for ten minutes. I'll change my clothes and come down," I replied softly and gently.
Ten minutes later, I left Maple Villa with Elizabeth in the car, pretending to ask out of concern.
After obtaining Elizabeth's home address, I headed straight to the destination. Along the way, Elizabeth shared a lot about Lauren and Jason with me, but she still didn't know why they argued this time, even as a mother herself. It must be a difficult topic to broach.
When we were close to the neighborhood, I noticed Jason's figure sitting on the edge of a flower bed by the roadside, looking lonely.
"Madam, thank you so much. If you don't mind, please come to my house for a cup of tea!" Elizabeth expressed her gratitude.
"You're welcome. Since you have something to take care of, I won't trouble you. Please go ahead!" I smiled and replied.
After Elizabeth thanked me a few more times, she hurriedly went upstairs, and I swiftly turned around to head toward Jason.
Thank goodness, he was still there, looking melancholic.
I straightened my clothes and rolled down the car window to greet him. "Jason, what are you doing here?"
"Mrs. Harrison?" Jason seemed startled for a moment upon seeing me.
"It's such a hot day. Get in, and I'll take you wherever you want!" I said cheerfully.
"No, Mrs. Harrison. I want to be alone for a while." Jason shook his head, looking tired and as if he hadn't slept well.
I got out of the car directly, grabbed his arm, and walked toward the car, saying, "You don't have to be alone under the scorching sun. Come on, let's go have a drink!"
Jason didn't refuse and obediently sat in the passenger seat, allowing me to have my way.
Thirty minutes later, I brought Jason to Song Garden.
"Come on, if you're feeling down, sing it out!" I reserved a private room and handed Jason the microphone, speaking loudly.
Jason held the microphone and suddenly burst into tears, his tears flowing uncontrollably.
It was the first time I had seen a man cry in front of me, and it caught me off guard.
"Mrs. Harrison, Lauren wants to break up with me. What should I do..." Jason choked on his words.
I was taken aback. In the previous life, when I found out about Lauren's existence, it was after Charlie had pursued her for a year, and Jason had indeed withdrawn.
But wasn't this withdrawal a little too early?
"What happened? Tell me about it. Maybe I can help you," I steadied my mind and spoke calmly.
"Yesterday, we went out to dinner together, and I accidentally saw a text message on her phone. It was from a stranger, sending her flirtatious messages. I got furious and started arguing with her, wanting her to give me that man's contact information. She refused, saying that I didn't trust her, and suggested breaking up instead..." Jason covered his eyes with both hands, his voice filled with sadness and regret.
I asked calmly without revealing my true feelings, "What was the content of the message you saw?"
After a moment of silence, Jason answered, "I want to see you. Give me a chance, okay?"
The power of love made even a man like Charlie, who used to hold himself so high, utter such humble words.
It was astonishing.
