Chapter 62 Talking with Jason

"Guess." I brushed off those thoughts and answered playfully.

Logan smiled and adjusted his glasses on the bridge of his nose. "I won't guess, but I hope you're single so I could have a chance."

Is he trying to pursue me? I didn't quite believe it. I thought he was just like any other man, who, after reaching a certain stage of conversation, would become familiar and start indulging himself.

I finished the remaining drink in one gulp and stood up. "Let's drop this topic. Goodbye."

Seeing my reaction, Logan immediately stood up as well, a bit anxious. "Can I have a way to contact you? I will show you how sincere I am!"

Sincerity doesn't mean anything. I had been sincere towards Charlie for ten years, and what did it get me?

But I still left my phone number for Logan. Why could Charlie take his little princess out to play, while I couldn't find a man to pass the time?

After exchanging contact information, I went to find Jane and her friends. They were done playing, so we all separated and headed home.

Outside the bar, Tim was waiting for me in the cold wind.

Every time I had a drink, I had to call him to pick me up. He respectfully opened the car door for me and helped me in. I grabbed his hand and said earnestly, "Tim, don't worry, I'll give you a raise next year!"

Regardless of wind or rain, Tim always followed my instructions without complaint.

Tim stiffened for a moment; a hint of surprise flashed across his face. Then, he placed my hand on the car door, closed it, and quickly got into the driver's seat, driving me back to Maple Villa.

Walking up the pathway to my home, I passed by that snowman, I silently stared at it for a few seconds before plucking its eyes out.

"You and Charlie are both blind." I muttered.

What am I lacking compared to Lauren? Except for being younger.

As soon as I entered the house, I heard Bubu calling out, "Meow," instantly lifting my spirits. I found Bubu playing with a ball of yarn in his cat bed, so I picked him up and took a selfie with him, which I later posted as a status update.

After that, I went to shower and sleep, only checking my phone before bed to find a few messages from Jason. There was also a photo of an orange cat, chubby and adorable.

Jason: Mrs. Harrison, do you also like cats?

I replied: They're alright. A friend's cat stayed with me for a while, and I found it quite cute. Is that your cat?

Jason: I found it at school. No one wanted it, so I decided to keep it myself. It's very well-behaved, just a bit too chubby.

After saying that, he sent me a short video of the cat, which had gotten as fat as a pig. It was trying to jump onto a chair but ended up falling because it was too heavy. It was so funny that I couldn't help but burst into laughter.

We chatted for quite a while, all centered around cats. Jason must have seen my status update and thought I really liked cats, so he found a topic to talk to me about.

I was fully aware of that somewhat deliberate feeling because I used to intentionally chat with Charlie about topics that I thought he would be interested in.

Finally, Jason transferred the money he owed me all at once and said, "Thank you, Mrs. Harrison. Let me treat you to a meal next time."

I replied, "Alright, let's make it tomorrow. I'll take Bubu to get a bath and dewormed. You can bring your cat along too."

Jason quickly responded; "Okay!"

After putting my phone down on the nightstand, I hugged my pillow and drifted off to sleep with an empty mind. I couldn't overexert myself anymore.

The next day, I searched for a nearby pet store and selected one. I sent the address and time to Jason. When I arrived at the pet store, he was already there waiting for me, wearing a black jacket with a turtleneck sweater underneath and carrying a pet backpack with a cat inside.

"Mrs. Harrison!" Jason's eyes illuminated when he saw me, and he had a sunny smile. It seemed as though he was starting to emerge from the shadows of his lost love.

"Let's get inside quickly, it's so cold outside." I held a transparent pet carrier in one hand and wrapped my other hand tightly around my clothes. Inside, I silently marveled how youthful he was. Wasn't he dressing too lightly for this cold weather?

Once we entered the pet store, everything involving Bubu was left in the hands of the store staff. Jason and I sat on the sofa and played with the cats.

His cat was incredibly lively but was hindered by its plump figure. It constantly attempted to jump up but failed every time. It circled around to my right side and prepared to jump onto my shoulder, which startled me and made me instinctively lean into Jason's embrace. He stiffened, and then his face turned red.

Once I realized what had happened, I didn't immediately move away but instead smiled at him. I only sat up straight after the cat moved away.

"He’s mischievous, did he startle you?" Jason avoided looking into my eyes, his gaze continually following the cat, and his voice sounded somewhat unnatural.

"No, it's quite cute. I want to..."

"Buy it a hairpin!" I suddenly had the urge and got up to choose a pink cat hairpin. I caught the cat and placed it on its ear.

The cat cooperated somewhat, proudly parading around with the hairpin, showing off in front of Bubu. It even provocatively tested Bubu with its claws. Bubu, who was grooming himself, protested angrily in response to the cat.

"Teddy!" Jason quickly called out and rushed over to stop them.

I took out my phone and captured this comical scene, then sent it to Dylan: "Isn't this cat hilarious? Bubu is getting so mad at it, hahaha..."

Dylan didn't reply, probably busy, but I didn't mind.

After spending a couple of hours in the pet store, Jason and I left together.

"Weren't you going to treat me to a meal? Should we go now?" I asked Jason as I walked to the car, placed Bubu in the back seat, and then clapped my hands.

Jason's gaze was still fixated on my car, unable to hide his envy and longing.

In response to my question, he quickly nodded, "Okay."

"Then let's get in the car," I smiled at him.

Knowing Jason's financial situation, I chose an affordable buffet restaurant. When we parked I called Tim to come over; drive the car back, and take both Bubu and Teddy to Maple Villa. Otherwise, the two little guys would certainly be uncomfortable being locked up in the car.

The restaurant was quite crowded, and Jason ran back and forth, fetching various ingredients he thought were delicious for me. Watching his considerate actions, I felt sad for him once again.

In reality, he really wasn't bad-looking, and he was diligent and optimistic. Without Charlie, he and Lauren could have had a happy future together.

"Hello, sir. My friend says you're handsome. Can I have your Whatsapp?" an eighteen or nineteen-year-old girl ran over, blushing, and asked Jason.

Jason instinctively glanced at me.

The girl immediately looked at me apologetically, "I'm sorry, I'm sorry. Is this your girlfriend? Sorry for disturbing!"

After speaking, she awkwardly ran away. Jason looked embarrassed and seemed like he wanted to explain but didn't want to. I sighed, "A potential future girlfriend slipped away."
