Chapter 43 Another fight

After I finally recovered, Charlie was still quietly staring at me.

I waved my hand, asking Elizabeth to leave first.

Once it was just the two of us in the dining room, I calmly replied, "You're overthinking. The Bennett Group is so big. If you give me 3% of the shares, it's enough for me to live a wealthy life for the rest of my life."

"Is that so?" Charlie just responded with a question and then withdrew his gaze to continue eating.

I remained silent and ate my meal, feeling that any further words would reveal my weakness.

After finishing the meal, I went to the music room to play the cello alone.

I didn't know to what extent Charlie had pursued Lauren in the past half month. Since the chemical factory project was about to start, it would soon be the time for Lauren to make demands of him, right?

Because I was distracted, I played several wrong notes in a row. In the end, I had to stop and calm my thoughts.

Fortunately, Charlie went to the company after eating. When I went downstairs again, he was no longer at home.

I let out a sigh of relief and sank into the soft sofa, closing my eyes with a hint of fatigue, letting my mind wander.

But inside, there were all sorts of fragmented scenes, many of which were comparisons between this life and the previous one. Unconsciously, I had fallen asleep on the sofa, and when Elizabeth woke me up for dinner, it was already late outside.

I felt a bit groggy in my head and didn't have much of an appetite. After eating a few bites, I was ready to go upstairs and continue resting, but Jason's phone call brought me back to alertness.

"Mrs. Harrison, do you have time now? Let's meet!" Jason's voice sounded different from usual, as if he was suppressing his anger and feigning calmness.

"Yes, where are you?" I replied.

"I'm right at the north gate of Maple Villa."

Jason's answer surprised me. I hurriedly changed my shoes, got in the car, and drove to the north gate of Maple Villa. Sure enough, I saw Jason standing by the roadside, looking around, but he didn't recognize me because I had changed cars.

I pulled up in front of him and rolled down the window. "Jason, get in the car. We can talk about it slowly."

Jason's eyes widened in surprise. He glanced around my car but didn't show any envy, rather a sense of discomfort. He nodded and got in the car. I asked, "What happened?"

Jason took out his phone and quickly said, "Mrs. Harrison, Lauren owed you those two thousand dollars, and I paid it back for her. Thank you."

I asked in astonishment, "How did you know?"

"She told me herself. She took on a part-time job at Cloud Hotel recently just to repay you, but her job was deliberately sabotaged." Jason lowered his head, sounding a bit desolate.

"She was fired?" I asked intentionally.

"No," Jason exclaimed in agony, grabbing a handful of hair. Anger filled his voice. "Mrs. Harrison, it's the man I told you about last time. Lauren promised me that she would cut ties with him, but they are still in contact. That man must be wealthy and influential. Lauren says she can’t avoid him at all, but she refuses to tell me who he is!"

My heart sank. "How did you find out?"

Jason answered, "I accidentally saw their messages, but I was so furious at that time that I forgot to check his phone number. Otherwise, I would have found out who he is!"

Silly boy, what difference would it make if he found out? Charlie is not someone he can handle at all.

It seems that Jason and Lauren had another fight, and in anger, he came to repay the money for her, fearing that Lauren would compromise with Charlie for money.

"You have to trust Lauren. She's not that kind of girl. Since you said that man is rich and influential, he will definitely approach her forcefully. What's most important for you now is not to argue with Lauren, but to trust and understand her. Otherwise, she may end up in the arms of another man, do you understand?" I advised him earnestly.

Jason remained silent. At this moment, he probably wasn't in the mood to listen to my consolation. When one is angry, they cannot think clearly.

In the past, there was no reason involved.

I drove to a bar, planning to accompany Jason for a drink to drown his sorrows.

Jason drank silently, one glass after another. I didn't say much. I just tried to hold back a bit and drank less than him.

Suddenly, someone familiar caught my eye. He was holding the hand of a young woman, accompanied by two or three other men, laughing and chatting as they found a spot not far away to sit down.

My brows furrowed instantly, and I took out my phone to record a video.

One minute later, I mentioned Yolanda and sent a text in our best friends' group chat: Yolanda, come out for a drink with your Arthur.

After five or six minutes, Yolanda replied: I just put on a face mask. Arthur is working late, so I’ll have to come out and have a drink with you alone. Will Jane and Tina join us?

Jane immediately sent a video, filled with bright lights and revelry. She said: I'm working, but two handsome guys came to Song Garden, so I came to take a look!

Tina sent a photo of her desk, piled high with files, and it made me feel uneasy. She said: If it weren't for this being my own company, I would have quit long ago!

I paid no attention to their chatting and urged Yolanda: Then you come.

I then sent her my location.

Yolanda responded with a yawning emoji: Never mind, if I go out for a drink tonight, my face mask will go to waste. I need to nurture fair and beautiful skin before getting married at the end of the year.

I felt a pang of anxiety. What on earth is happening?

In the previous life, Yolanda and Arthur got married smoothly and didn't experience any of this melodramatic stuff. If I hadn’t come to drink with Jason, I wouldn't have stumbled upon Arthur's affair.

Yolanda and Arthur had always been a happy couple in my mind. Although I felt they weren't ideally matched in terms of social status, and conflicts might arise in the future, they were still going strong until my death in the previous life, breaking through class barriers.

I hesitated. Should I send the video to Yolanda?

During my hesitation, that woman with Arthur was constantly interacting with him, leaning against his shoulder. They looked like a sweet couple.

Every now and then, I took a photo with my phone. Even if I didn't send it to Yolanda now, I could tell her later.

Jason had already drunk too much and started to retch. Afraid he would vomit on me, I helped him up and we went to the restroom. But drunk people are really heavy, and I toppled over as soon as I stood up, falling onto him, causing him to let out a painful grunt.

I had a real headache. I tried to get up and call for a waiter to help me support Jason, but another hand grabbed his arm. It was Dylan.

When I saw Dylan, I felt a bit delusional.

Why is it that whenever I'm with Jason, I always run into him? It's so similar to Lauren calling Charlie whenever I’m alone with him.

"He's had too much to drink..." I awkwardly said.

"Yeah, let's go to the car and talk," Dylan replied, cutting me off.
