Chapter 26 Charlie Is Furious
Are they also eating at this restaurant? I couldn't help feeling curious for a moment.
But soon, I let it go. What they were doing here had nothing to do with me. In the near future, we would all go our separate ways.
While enjoying our meal, Yolanda suddenly announced some good news. "Oh, by the way, I wanted to let you all know, Arthur and I have decided to get married!"
I almost choked on my food and started coughing.
Jane and Tina widened their eyes in surprise. "Damn, are you really planning to enter the graveyard of marriage?"
"Other people might find it a graveyard, but we don't. Arthur and I are madly in love." Yolanda had full confidence in Arthur. In terms of appearance, they were a perfect match. While their family backgrounds couldn't be compared, I was sure Arthur would still treat her well.
"Men can't be trusted, Yolanda. Don't let love cloud your judgment." Jane, being the most anxious one, tightly held Yolanda's shoulder. "Wake up! Why not consider it for another six months?"
Yolanda knew we were all concerned but didn't get angry. She just smiled and pushed away Jane's hand. "You all just have a scary perception of marriage. I'll make you regain hope in love!"
Jane wanted to continue persuading, but I gave her a meaningful glance, and she wisely kept quiet.
Even though we were good sisters, we couldn't interfere too much. It's best to know when to stop.
"I'm going to the restroom." After finishing the meal, the others continued drinking water to refresh themselves, while I felt a bit uncomfortable in my stomach and stood up to leave.
Leaving the private room, I walked to the right. When passing by a door, I heard Clint's voice. "Charlie, you've found true love, huh?"
I stopped and continued listening.
Michael gleefully added, "Too bad she doesn't pay any attention to you. Mr. Bennett's charm can fail at times."
"She already has a boyfriend. Are you giving up?"
"She's just a college girl. They're everywhere!"
That's what happens when you have unreliable friends. When going astray, not only will they not stop you, but they'll also assist you.
I also understood that in their hearts, I wasn't considered Charlie's wife at all.
They all assumed Charlie was married but single.
Then Dylan's voice rang out, serious and cold, "What about Rosalie? Your marriage with her is protected by law."
Suddenly, I felt like I had gone a bit too far by putting lipstick in his thermos last time.
A silence filled the private room, but after a moment, someone continued.
I finally heard Charlie's lazy voice. "What bullshit true love? Just playing around, have you not heard that phrase before? We always desire what we can't have."
I didn't know what else Charlie said because my lower abdomen was getting more and more painful; I had to go to the bathroom.
To my surprise, my period, which had been delayed for two months, decided to pay a visit today of all days!
I suppose it's because I've been eating well and sleeping soundly lately, coupled with the herbal soup's conditioning, that I'm not as weak, and my period has returned to normal.
I pulled up the back of my skirt and took a look; there were very noticeable bloodstains.
After thinking for a minute, I dialed Charlie's phone number.
He rejected my call!
So he couldn't spare even a minute for me because he was too busy discussing how to pursue Lauren with his friends? The arrival of my period made me irritable, so I came to Charlie's private room filled with anger and pushed the door open.
Everyone was somewhat shocked by my presence, especially Clint, who was the most excited one a moment ago. He seemed a bit dumbfounded.
Charlie was sitting right opposite the door, wearing a black polo shirt, appearing simple and mature. But the smile on his face instantly disappeared the moment he saw me. He gave me a displeased expression.
"Why are you here?" He furrowed his thick brows.
I ignored him and instead beckoned Dylan, showing a hint of shyness. "Dylan, I need your help with something. Could you assist me?"
Dylan and Charlie exchanged a glance, clearly not willing to help me. However, after being confronted with my exaggerated eyes for a moment, Dylan stood up.
Charlie kept his unusual gaze fixed on both of us.
After Dylan came out, he asked me, "Tell me, what's the matter?"
"Help me buy something." I put on what I considered a sweet smile. In fact, I could have asked for help from Jane and the others, but I chose not to.
"What something?" Dylan was puzzled.
"Just lower your head." I tip-toed. When I saw Dylan obediently lowering his head to listen, I quickly said, "Sanitary pads and a skirt!"
I noticed a change in Dylan's face; he probably couldn't understand why I would ask him for help with such a matter.
Dylan flatly refused, "No way!"
"You can accompany Charlie to discuss how to pursue other women, but you can't help his poor wife buy a pack of sanitary pads? Aren't you a doctor? Don't you have a bit of moral responsibility?" I self-righteously accused Dylan.
Dylan's gaze toward me became complex once again. He was the only man among Charlie's circle who had a normal perspective, even though he did some crazy things later on just to win over Lauren. But he was still single-pursuing a woman is completely normal!
He was much better than the immoral, lunatic Charlie.
As expected, Dylan didn't say anything more. He tightly pursed his thin lips and turned around toward the staircase.
I waited at the door while sending a message to reassure Jane and the others, just in case they thought I fell into the toilet.
During the wait, the door of the private room opened again, and Charlie's figure walked in.
When I came out, I saw that I was the only one at the door. He asked, "Where's Dylan?"
I pointed toward the staircase. "Over there."
Dylan held a black bag in his hand, his fair and handsome face slightly flushed. He exuded a hint of embarrassment.
He handed the bag to me, sounding unnatural. "Take it!"
Happily, I accepted the bag, completely disregarding Charlie who was right beside me, and gratefully said to Dylan, "Thank you, Dylan. I'll treat you to a meal next time!"
"Hold on, what's this?" Charlie grabbed my wrist, preventing me from leaving.
He looked at the black bag in my hand, his gaze hostile.
I felt content inside. Wasn't Charlie being hypocritical? Wasn't he afraid of others knowing that I betrayed him? Now, I was shamelessly flirting with his best friend in front of him. Let him be furious.
I allowed him to snatch the bag away from me. He opened it and took a look inside. His expression darkened.
"What the hell!" Charlie lacked manners and had a quick temper. "You had Dylan buy you this kind of thing?"
"Huh? What's wrong? Is it against the law for him to help me buy sanitary pads?" I feigned ignorance.
"And this!" Charlie almost threw the pink underwear directly at my face. His face turned as dark as the bottom of a pot, his anger soaring.
Dylan also looked at me, seemingly pondering something.
To be honest, I didn't expect Dylan to be so attentive and thoughtful. I only needed pads and a dress, but he even took into account that my underwear would be dirty.
How did this rich, good-looking, and considerate man lose to Charlie in my previous life?
