Chapter 38 Drinking The Whole Time

After Yolanda left, Jane, Tina, and I continued chatting. Half an hour later, Arthur and his parents appeared together.

Knowing that we were close to Yolanda, Arthur greeted us with his parents, "Rosalie, Jane, Tina, you're here."

"We definitely had to come. Yolanda's engagement is a big deal," Jane replied.

My attention was on Arthur's parents. His father seemed fine, with a smile on his face, but his mother had a sour expression, seemingly unhappy.

How could she have a bad mood on such a happy occasion?

Yolanda also accompanied her parents as they approached.

"Uncle, Aunt," Arthur quickly greeted them and turned to Yolanda.

Yolanda smiled, and we also greeted her parents, whom we were quite familiar with. On the other hand, it was our first time meeting Arthur's parents. Yolanda has probably only met them once or twice before. I heard they live far away in their hometown.

After exchanging greetings, Yolanda and Arthur took their respective parents and started chatting. I sighed and said, "Why do I feel like Yolanda's future mother-in-law is not easy to get along with?"

"One look at her face, and you can tell she's unkind. She'll regret it later," Jane disagreed with Yolanda's decision to get married now, as Arthur's career wasn't showing any progress. Even the quality of their wedding will be compromised in the future.

Tina whispered a reminder, "This is Yolanda's engagement banquet. Let's say something nice."

Jane and I exchanged a glance, feeling helpless.

Marriages without compatible backgrounds are prone to problems.

At twelve noon, the banquet began, and Jane, Tina, and I had a great time enjoying the food. Charlie and his friends sat at another table and didn't join us, but I didn't mind.

After the engagement banquet, Tina hurried back to work, and Jane received a call from home urging her to come back for some urgent matter. Meanwhile, I ended up chatting with other people and finally said goodbye to Yolanda.

Before leaving, I went to the restroom, and as soon as I walked out, I saw Charlie standing not far away in the corridor, with Lauren standing beside him in her Cloud Hotel uniform.

"If you need money, just let me know. This job isn't suitable for you," Charlie said to Lauren, his voice somewhat muffled.

I tried to focus and listen.

"Mr. Bennett, I have already declined you before. We are people from different worlds, we are utterly incompatible. Besides, I have a boyfriend. Please don't suddenly appear in front of me like this." Lauren's voice remained crisp and pleasant.

"Like I said, there's nothing I can't have." Charlie's tone suddenly turned cold. "I have given you many chances already. Don't try to test my patience."

I shook my head, knowing that this person's personality would frighten a young girl.

As expected, with a teary voice, Lauren asked, "What do you want then? I know I can't compete with you, but I can hide!"

"Naive. Where will you hide?" Charlie actually laughed, finding amusement in Lauren's futile words.

Lauren wanted to say something more, but Charlie issued his final ultimatum, "You have one week to break up with him, or face the consequences."

After saying that, Charlie left.

Lauren stood helplessly in her place, her shoulders shrugging as if crying. I didn't console her. Instead, I left from the other side.

When I reached downstairs, Charlie was already waiting for me in the car. I got in calmly and said, "Let's go home."

The seemingly calm lake of my heart actually had ripples spreading. I realized that I haven't truly achieved tranquility and acceptance. In my previous life, I only witnessed Charlie's crazy love for Lauren but didn't see the little details between them. Now, I have seen some.

I have to admit that I am still very sad, and a familiar sense of jealousy still lingers.

"Pull over, I have something to do and won't be going back," I suddenly spoke up.

"Where are you going?" Charlie asked.

"Let's not interfere in each other's personal matters," I unbuckled my seatbelt and replied coldly.

Charlie looked at me with icy eyes, then parked the car by the side. "Get out."

I immediately got out of the car, walking onto the sidewalk without looking back. Charlie's car sped past without any hesitation.

If it were Lauren who got out of the car in anger, he would never leave, right? No, he wouldn't even let Lauren get out of the car.

I shook my head and scolded myself for comparing myself to Lauren. In Charlie's heart, she and I are not on the same level.

Hailing a taxi casually, I wearily said, "Go to the nearest bar."

Ten minutes later, I arrived at a bar. It was not crowded in the afternoon. In fact, it was quite deserted. I found a spot for myself, ordered a few bottles of alcohol, and drank alone.

I suddenly remembered the handsome guy Jane had introduced to me before. I had rejected him and his contact information, but now I really needed someone to accompany me for a drink. Thus, I was about to call Jane to ask for his number.

"Mrs. Harrison?" Just as I picked up my phone, Jason appeared in front of me wearing a waiter's uniform.

"Jason?" I was a bit surprised. "Are you working here part-time?"

Jason smiled and nodded. "Yes, school is on break."

Upon careful thought, it was the holiday season, but as someone who didn't work or attend school, I hadn't paid any attention. No wonder Lauren was also working as a temporary staff at Cloud Hotel.

I have to say, Jason looked handsome in this black and white vest shirt. He had a less youthful aura and more of a mature charm. However, his clear eyes remained the same.

"If you're not busy, sit down and have a drink with me for a while." I pointed to a nearby seat.

"It's not busy now. Bars usually get busier in the evening." Jason sat down beside me. He glanced at the drinks on the table and asked, "Mrs. Harrison, are you feeling down? Why are you drinking alone?"

I poured a glass of wine for Jason, gave a bitter smile, and said, "Yeah, I'm feeling down. I'm getting a divorce from my husband."

Jason looked surprised and asked, "Why?"

I looked at him mysteriously and said, "Guess."

Jason didn't say anything. He was probably afraid that if he guessed correctly, it would hurt me. Seeing him appear a little hesitant, my mood improved. How adorable this young man is! He's much better than Charlie.

"He fell in love with someone else. I will likely receive a large sum of money in the divorce and become a divorced woman."

"Mrs. Harrison, you're so good. How could he fall in love with someone else?" Jason seemed a bit puzzled.

I sighed, "Some people like to eat expensive seafood, while others prefer ordinary snacks. It's normal."

Jason reassured me, "Mrs. Harrison, he will definitely regret it and realize that you are the best."

I couldn't help but chuckle. I really wanted to tell Jason that Charlie fell in love with your girlfriend. He won't regret it. His love would only grow deeper.

"I don't know, maybe." I raised my glass. "Let's not talk about discouraging things. Let's just drink."
