Chapter 29 Telling Dylan

The 3% share of the Bennett Group was indeed tempting for me, but I wouldn't starve if I left with nothing. On the contrary, I would be able to free myself from the upcoming troubles and pursue a better life sooner.

"No." Charlie's response was firm, which surprised me.

"Haven't you considered that my presence might hinder you from pursuing true love in the future?" I couldn't help but remind Charlie.

He has been chasing after Lauren for almost half a month. Didn't he notice something different? He never put so much effort into female celebrities or anyone before.

Charlie's eyelids drooped, and I didn't know what he was thinking. After a while, he answered nonchalantly, "No."

He was really stubborn. How could someone as smart as Charlie be so clueless when it came to emotions?

I sighed softly, not wanting to say anything else, and got up to rest upstairs.

The next day, I received a message from Jason: Mrs. Harrison, Lauren and I made up, thank you for your understanding. Next time, please join us for dinner!

I pondered for a moment and didn't reply, but I couldn't help but think that Charlie's mood would be bad again.

After finishing my morning routine, I went downstairs to have breakfast. Charlie was already sitting on the sofa, looking somewhat unhappy.

"Elizabeth, what are we having for breakfast today?" I bypassed him and headed straight to the dining room.

"We have seafood rice and some sandwiches I made last night. If madam likes them, you can give them a try. They're delicious," Elizabeth replied as she served the rice. She also prepared some bird's nest soup and cut fruits for me.

I sat down and started eating, and soon Charlie joined me.

"Please have a seat," I said.

Elizabeth had prepared an identical breakfast for him as well.

While eating, Charlie's phone rang. After glancing at it, his face visibly darkened at an alarming speed. Pushing aside the seafood rice, he got up and walked away without a word.

"Don't forget to come to my house tomorrow morning at nine," I reminded him.

Charlie ignored me, and his figure quickly disappeared into the spacious living room.

The message he just received was likely from Lauren, and its content made Charlie very uncomfortable; otherwise, he wouldn't have reacted so strongly.

I glanced at Elizabeth, who was tidying up the kitchen. I wondered if Lauren had told her about being pursued by a married man. That married man had just left.

"Elizabeth, I'm going out. I won't be back for lunch," I informed her and hurriedly left.

I had scheduled a comprehensive physical examination, focusing mainly on breast health.

My wellbeing was of utmost importance, and I had to prioritize it.

After spending a good portion of the day at the hospital, I finished most of the necessary check-ups. Before leaving, I contemplated and decided to visit Dylan's department.

"Dylan!" As soon as I saw Dylan, I greeted him with a warm smile.

He was sitting at his desk eating from a lunch box. Upon seeing me, his brows furrowed slightly.

"You're here alone?" I sat down beside him and curiously looked at his meal.

"You're eating a simple and healthy meal. That's great. I've always felt that you are different from Charlie and his gang. They're a bunch of spoiled playboys, but you are a disciplined and good-tempered god-like man!"

Dylan glanced at me with a cold expression. "What do you want? Are you trying to use me to provoke Charlie again?"

As expected, he saw right through me last time. It was emotionally exhausting.

I quietly took out my phone. "I want to show you something."

I pulled up Jason's status. The background picture showed him and Lauren, hand in hand, smiling silly and happily into the camera, under a blue sky with white clouds.

"Do you know this girl?" I asked, my eyes fixed on Dylan's reaction.

Dylan looked at it for a few seconds, a hint of strangeness flickering in his eyes, but it wasn't the kind of captivating gaze that comes from love at first sight.

"I don't know her, but I know her boyfriend, Jason." Dylan's attention was actually on Jason.

I was taken aback. Although the photo didn't have the same charisma as a real person, Dylan's obsession with Lauren in my past life was no less than Charlie's. Even if it was just a picture, it should have stirred something within him, right?

Could it be that he only fell in love with Lauren through their subsequent interactions?

If only I had asked more questions during our collaboration back then, I wouldn't be so confused now.

"Yes," I adjusted my mindset and continued somewhat helplessly, "Did Charlie tell you that this is the college girl he's pursuing?"

"I only know that there is such a person, but I don't know the details," Dylan's gaze deepened. "How did you find out?"

Even if I only overheard a few sentences at the restaurant that day, I wouldn't have understood so clearly.

I replied, "Because they broke up yesterday, and I tried to persuade them. The girl's name is Lauren, a sophomore music student at New York University. She doesn't know about my relationship with Charlie."

Dylan wanted to ask me more, but he noticed that the others were coming back, so he had to give up.

Being tactful, I got up and said, "Let's have dinner together tonight. I can tell you a lot of things."

"Okay, you decide the time and place," Dylan responded simply.

As I turned to leave, I heard his colleague teasing him, "Dylan, you finally found a partner? Are you going on a date tonight?"

I didn't catch Dylan's response clearly.

Finally, I set the location at Wind Diner, the one Jane took us to last time, which was suitable for discussing matters between just the two of us.

That night, Dylan arrived as planned.

I had just fallen asleep in the private room. I was still dreaming when he arrived and woke me up.

"Hey, wake up!" Dylan patted my face.

I woke up, stretched lazily, and smiled apologetically at Dylan. "Sorry, I don't look good when I sleep."

Dylan seemed to smirk as he sat down at the tea table.

After the waiter came in and brewed tea for us, Dylan and I began discussing the main topic.

I told Dylan about everything that happened, from meeting Lauren at the café, bumping into Jason, to becoming friends with them. Then I sighed, "It's so coincidental. I never expected Charlie to fall for her."

"So, the current situation is that you know about the relationship between Charlie, Lauren, and Jason, but they don't know about your identity?" Dylan summarized.

"Yes," I nodded.

"Why not be straightforward about it?" Dylan stared at me and asked.

"Don't you understand Charlie? What's the point of being straightforward? Will he give up on Lauren because of me? No, even if I desperately try to stop and oppose it, I can't change his heart. He never liked me, I don't even count as an ex-lover. How can I compare to his new-found love?" I retorted.

As I spoke, I became more excited, the feeling of despair and unwillingness from the previous life faintly resurging.

Dylan looked slightly surprised. After all, I had never been this excited about Charlie's previous scandals. Of course, he didn't know what would happen in the future.
