Chapter 35 Going Together
Jane's fighting skills were indeed strong. If Clint and Michael insisted on the principle of not hitting women, they would likely end up badly beaten by her.
I held onto Jane and said, "Jane, let's go."
"Clint, if I catch you again, I'll make sure you know who you shouldn't mess with!" Jane glared at Clint.
I was deeply moved by Jane's loyalty, and I decided to pay for her expenses.
Jane loves the nightlife but also takes skincare seriously. I advised her to sleep early and wake up early for better skin.
She laughed and said, "Rose, sometimes hormonal imbalance can also lead to bad skin. We're almost thirty, so we must have an active sex life!"
I blushed, and images of last night with Charlie automatically played in my mind. Surprisingly, although my legs felt a bit sore, I did feel a lot better after going out today. It was like finally getting relief after a long drought.
"I know this young performer who is incredibly handsome. I heard that he has several upcoming shows and might become popular. Would you like me to introduce him to you?" Jane continued, seemingly unaffected by my silence, as she started to unleash her cupid powers.
"I haven't even gotten a divorce yet," I reminded her helplessly.
"But isn't it just a matter of time? Find yourself a backup!" Jane responded boldly.
I knew it was inevitable, but I have standards when it comes to finding a backup, someone like Jason, who could provide me with a sense of stability. Otherwise, I would rather not bother and avoid unnecessary trouble.
"By the way, Yolanda said they're going to get engaged this weekend and invited a few of us for a spontaneous trip. Tina and I have already agreed to go. Are you coming?" Jane asked again.
"Where are we going?" I asked in return.
"We're thinking of the Maldives, Soneva Jani Island. It'll be a few days of relaxation and fun," Jane seemed really keen on going. Then she warned me, "You have to come! You and Charlie never had a honeymoon trip. Consider it self-compensation!"
With her words, I started to feel enticed. Who wouldn't like a honeymoon trip with their best friend? Besides, things shouldn't have happened between me and Charlie, and I wanted to get away for a while, giving him some time to pursue Lauren properly.
With Charlie's abilities, he could achieve a significant breakthrough in just three days, right?
"Alright, let's do it!" I agreed without hesitation.
After discussing the trip, Jane tried to convince me to wait for her and go to a bar together. I glanced at the time and immediately declined her invitation because I needed to go home and get some sleep.
Staying up late last night really took a toll on my body, and I had to take care of myself.
After leaving the Roof Club, Jane complained about me not accompanying her while getting into her car and driving away. I also prepared to drive back.
As soon as I got in the car, a hand blocked my car door. Dylan was standing outside, saying, "Let's talk."
"You scared me!" I patted my chest. "Get in the passenger seat, we can talk inside."
Dylan didn't waste any words and got into the passenger seat, getting straight to the point. "The photos you sent me, did you take them?"
It had been days since that happened, and now he decided to ask about it? I admitted honestly, "Yes, I witnessed and captured it myself. What's the matter?"
"What was the purpose of sending them to me?" Dylan turned his head, locking eyes with me.
"No particular purpose. I just wanted you to witness it," I pondered for a few seconds before giving a vague response.
"Witness what?" Dylan's tone remained indifferent.
"To witness every little detail of your good friend finding true love. That's all." I sometimes felt suffocated when talking to Dylan. Like Charlie, he spoke straightforwardly but even more seriously.
In our previous life, when we worked together, his mind was filled with thoughts of Lauren, leaving no room for other topics of conversation. He didn't have the same aura he has now. He was like a teacher, and I was like a student, feeling guilty for being sneaky.
My answer was sincere. Dylan would eventually fall in love with Lauren as well, so I just wanted him to see Charlie and Lauren together, creating a sense of nostalgia.
Dylan's gaze changed slightly, as if he was looking at a lunatic. He didn't say anything and got out of the car.
As soon as he got out of the car, I stepped on the gas and drove away, while he stood there watching me.
The next few days were quite busy for me because I had to accompany Yolanda in selecting a hotel and discussing the engagement process. She said I was the only one among the four of us who had been married, so I had some experience.
What experience could I have? I didn't even have an engagement ceremony. I just went straight into marriage.
In the end, we chose Cloud Hotel for the engagement ceremony and hired a wedding planner. Yolanda even told them that if the engagement went well, they would be invited for the wedding at the end of the year.
The night before Yolanda's engagement ceremony, I was having dinner when Charlie came back.
He seemed a bit weary, casually loosening his tie and throwing it on the sofa before pouring himself a glass of water. I watched him while eating, wondering if chasing after Lauren had been so tiring these past few days.
"Mr. Bennett, you're back," the maid politely greeted.
Charlie glanced indifferently at the maid, not answering, and went straight to the dining room. Seeing this, Elizabeth promptly set an extra set of cutlery.
I focused on eating, feeling a bit awkward. Charlie and I should maintain a cold and distant relationship until the divorce, but considering what happened, it was strange to even see each other now.
Before Charlie could start eating, his phone rang. It was his father calling.
"I heard the contract is signed?" his father's voice came from the other end of the phone.
"It's signed. Everything went smoothly," Charlie answered while continuing to eat on speakerphone.
"Great! You must have been tired from the overseas trip these past few days. Get some rest now." His father seemed visibly happy. He complimented Charlie a bit and told him to rest well before hanging up.
I was somewhat surprised. Charlie had been on a business trip abroad these past few days? I thought he was relentlessly pursuing Lauren.
Charlie noticed my gaze and raised his thick eyebrows, a hint of coldness in his handsome eyes. "Why are you staring at me?"
"It's nothing." I quickly lowered my head to continue eating.
Charlie continued, "Tomorrow is Yolanda's engagement ceremony, and I've been invited. Let's go together."
Now I had to stare at him again. "You're going?"
Their statuses never intertwined. They simply knew each other because of similar social class, but they hardly interacted.
Yolanda sent Charlie an invitation, most likely at her parents' request. It's a basic move in social circles. Who knows, there might be potential business collaborations in the future? So, it's necessary to invite him.
But for Charlie to agree to attend, I never expected that. In the previous life, he didn't attend it. He just had someone bring a gift.
"Well, is there a problem?" Charlie seemed displeased with my reaction since I seemed displeased.
"No problem!" I shook my head.
Shaking my head, I stood up after speaking, "I'm full now, so I'm going to shower and sleep."
