Chapter Fifteen
"Okay," Mrs. Adams smiled lightly at me, gesturing towards the seats in the class. "Go and take a seat."
I breathed a sigh of relief inwardly hearing this. "Thank you."
I quickly shuffled down the stairs of the podium and walked through the lines of desks to settle down.
There were a few seats left but I'd have to pass through some other students to get there. So I walked to the ones which were at the back of the class.
However, someone was seated between both seats with his head laid on the table. So, I took the seat on the right since his bag was placed on the other one.
Just then, he suddenly jerked and looked up at me. I was stunned for a moment seeing how handsome he looked and even the cap he was putting on could not hide his face well.
But, every adoration I had towards his beauty immediately disappeared when he looked me over and his lips curled into a menacing snarl.
"What the f*ck are you trying to do?" He snarled.
I could not even express how confused I was. But I wasn't the type to be intimidated.
So, I folded my arms and glowered at him back. "What do you mean?"
"You can't sit here," He growled looking as though he already lost patience talking to me.
"And why can't I?" I asked. "It's not private property."
I could not be bothered by his rudeness. The seats were for students and he could not just tell me not to sit. I threw him an indifferent glance and settled in the seat.
I could feel his gaze on me but I simply ignored it. Instead, I looked up at Ms. Adams. She seemed to be about to say something.
But before she could even get a word out, the arrogant boy beside me stood up gruffly. And to my horror, he banged his fist on the desk shattering it into pieces immediately.
I immediately jumped in terror at his sudden action. My gaze flickered from him to the shattered desk and I could tell without anyone even telling me that my face was that of pure horror.
He looked at Ms. Adams immediately and warned, "I want her away from this seat by the time I return. Or else..."
He looked at me and gave me a menacing glare. I subconsciously cowered in my seat, speechless.
After he was gone, I still sat there frozen in shock. I was beginning to feel cold and goosebumps were rising on my skin.
It wasn't the way he split the desk that terrified me. Rather, it was the expression and the intense gaze in his eyes that told me that he was capable of hurting me that scared me.
Ms. Adams walked up to me. Her face had a look of regret as she said, "Chelsea, you need to change seats."
"But why?" I asked, still unable to get over the shock that he dared to do so in front of a teacher.
Ms. Adams was silent for a moment. "Torin had always been a little eccentric, " she replied. "He likes to sit alone."
Her words immediately got me mad. My parents paid the fees for me to school and it was public property. I could sit anywhere of my choice.
I shot out of my seat and snapped, "But this is public property!"
Ms. Adams nodded indicating that she knew. But her words didn't change. Instead, she said her voice now strict and expression serious.
She looked across the room for a moment and I could not help but follow her gaze. Suddenly, she pointed at a girl seated in the middle row with her head on the table.
"Kayla," She called out and the girl looked up.
It turned out to be Kevin's sister, Kayla.
Ms. Adams said to her, "Scoot over for Chelsea so that she can sit for the class." Then, she turned to me. "You can sit with Kayla there. After you are done with your classes, come over to my office so I can explain things to you and give you the list of what you need."
I wanted to protest seeing that she planning to brush it off. But when I looked at the broken desk on the floor and that guy's ferocious expression earlier, I didn't argue any longer.
Ms. Adams walked out of the class afterward and the male teacher came in again. I grabbed my bag and walked to Kayla's seat.
When I settled in the seat beside her, she looked at me for a brief second and then returned her gaze to the book on her table once more.
I didn't bother to say anything to her knowing that wouldn't talk to me anyway. The teacher had begun his lecture so I brought out my books and focused on the class instead.
But, I could not help but look around the class. Everyone was focused and it was as though what happened earlier was simply a farce. No one seemed bothered by it; as though they were all used to it.
