Fifty one
Kayla's POV
It's been days since I last heard from Chelsea, I tried calling her line but she wasn't picking, I've been busy with school work so I wasn't chanced to visit her but today I managed to clear all my schedule and pay her a visit, I almost screamed due to the state I met her.
Chelsea laid on the bed looking miserable and unkempt, being sick or pale would be a terrible understand, I panicked.
"Chels, what is wrong with you?" I asked worriedly.
She sluggishly rose up from the bed as she heard my voice.
"Kay, is that you?" She asked as she rubbed her sleepy eyes.
"Yes, I haven't heard from you in days which is quite unusual neither are you present in school, what's wrong honey? Ever since you returned from that mysterious date of yours everything hasnt been the same." I complained.
She smiled weakly.
"I'm fine Kay, I'm just down with a cold." She explained.
I touched her forhead and her high temperature confirmed her claims, I was more surprised, Chelsea had never been down with a cold for as long as I remember.
"How did you catch a cold?" I asked.
"I stayed up all night at the balcony staring at the stars few days ago, I guess that's what happened." She replied weakly.
"Where are your medications?" I asked.
She pointed at a small container of medications just beside her, I made sure she took the morning dose and ate some food, she looked much better as I put her to sleep, if it wasn't for Torin who asked me to check up on her I wouldn't have known she was this sick and concluded that she was on one of her once in a blue moon personal retreat where she'd suddenly disappear only to reappear with some archeological findings and all.
I watched her sleep peacefully and smiled, she is a strong woman, this best friend of mine.
Chelsea's Pov
It's been two weeks after Alaric's and I argued, and it's been two weeks since I last heard from him, I was down with an unusual cold for the first few days but Kayla took good care of me and I was better in no time, there was no phone calls, messages, stalking or any news from Alaric, he kept to his words and I was grateful.
My life in school was also going smoothly, I hardly see Torin around and when I did, he was with Kayla, I suspected that something was brewing between them but I kept mute, I was happy for Kayla, she deserved the best, I began to enjoy my life free of Alaric or so I thought, my life didn't just feel the same anymore and I felt this emptiness deep within me which I often ignored.
These past few days; I had begun to see Alaric everywhere I go, in my shower, at the walkway, in the cafeteria, and he wasn't actually there, I made a mental note to go see a doctor probably I had hit my head and was hallucinating, there was no way I was missing a half human.
Sometimes, I ached to see him but I brushed it off that it will eventually wear off. A month after Alaric left, I adjusted to my normal life, he invaded my dreams every night but I kept myself in check by reminding myself that he was gone forever and he'd never get back but something inside of me told me our paths would cross once more.
Once, I tried to inquire about how he fared from Torin but Torin kept his mouth sealed telling me I wanted to get rid of Alaric and I was successful, there was no need in trying to be a nice person to him.
I once dreamt of Alaric and it was so vivid I began to cry when I realized it was just a dream.
Alaric's POV
It's been a month since I'd last seen or communicated with Chelsea, it's been one hell of a month, there wasn't a day which I wouldn't miss her badly and had to restrict myself from going to see her. I diverted my attention from her to what was left of my soldiers, I began to train them intensively in swordsmanship, combat and archery.
I still miss Chelsea everyday, but learned to live with the never ending pain. Presently, I was at the training ground, I equipped them all with swords, bows, arrows and every other weapon from our arsenal, they were all perfect shooters and guns was somewhat useless against werewolves so we didn't use much of that.
I was sparing with my beta; using him as an example and asking everyone else to observe us when a soldier ran in, panting heavily.
"What's wrong?" I asked him impatiently.
"Alpha, the pack has been infiltrated!" He panted.
My heart skipped a beat, my soldiers were few in numbers and I still haven't recovered fully, our chances if winning was slim and almost impossible, before I could dish out orders; the intruders came trooping in, we were far outnumbered which irked me, I could sense the fear in my soldiers, they were dead; as long as they were scared before their enemies.
"Attack!" One of my soldiers charged forward.
With a loud yell; my soldiers charged at the multitude of our opponents, with the little training they had, they fought bravely, Soo they began to fall one after the number and our number decreased, we were rightly outnumbered.
I couldn't wolf out there because I wasn't totally healed and if I did I wouldn't last long before my energy is exhausted which will leave me open to any incoming attack, it was a risk I wasn't willing to take, Lebron, none of my trusted soldiers yelled that I move out of the way.
I was just on time to dodge an incoming attack, the battle was getting fiercer and my men lesser. There was backup available, I couldn't stand the gruesome killing of my comrades so I moved out of their defensive formation and stepped into the Frontline, I went rabid, killing whomever I came into contact with.
One hour later; their population has been halved by me, they saw me as the real threat.
"There he is, kill the alpha!" There commander pointed at me and yelled.
