Chapter Nineteen
Right across me and inside a large hall, there was a large, silver box. My heart skipped a beat at the sight and I subconsciously stepped back.
I couldn't tell what it was exactly considering that I'm standing very far from it. But, I could tell that it was very large and well-designed. It had silver beads adorned around it but I had a vague feeling it was real silver stones.
It was very beautiful and I was very curious to see what it was. And that was why I found myself stepping into the hall and approaching it even though I was well aware of the warnings given by Mrs. Lestrade to always stay with the group.
The door closed behind me the moment I stepped in.
The interior of the hall was just as magnificent as it looked outside. It was more of a medieval setting than the rest of the tower we had been to and it gave off a mysterious aura.
It fueled my curiosity even more.
When I reached the large box, I found out it wasn't a box like I thought; it was a coffin. A grandly adorned coffin.
But that wasn't the shocker. Inside the coffin was a person; a tall male figure dressed in long, white robes. His hands were crossed over one another and he was very still.
His eyes were shut tightly as though he had been asleep for a very long time. But, I could not understand why he was placed in a coffin or why the coffin was in such a place.
He was not a corpse; his face looked nothing like a corpse's. It was rosy and sunny but he was just as quiet and still as a dead man.
The air suddenly turned chilly and as I stood there staring at him, I began to feel goosebumps crawling on my skin. However, what I noticed was that I was not scared.
I was very wary but I didn't feel scared standing in front of what any other person would conclude was a ghost and would have flown out of the hall the moment they saw him.
Instead, my curiosity was fueled even higher. I couldn't help but mutter, "Who is he?"
I reached a hand out toward the coffin in front of me and I could not stop myself from running my finger across the adorned coffin. It turned out the designs were carved into it as they were sharp and spiky.
As I ran my gaze on it looking into the coffin and wondering how he was put in there and if he would ever be removed, I accidentally cut myself. I felt a sharp pain in the wound and before I knew it, my finger was dripping blood already.
This immediately woke me up and I regained my senses.
"What the heck am I doing here?" I exclaimed, the last few moments blurry and making me feel as though I had just been hypnotized.
And then I turned around to leave. I couldn't stay there any longer as I now felt conscious of the danger of being there all alone.
But I noticed something unusual. The body in the coffin suddenly moved. His eyelashes trembled slightly and likewise were his fingers too. Before I could recover from the shock that he was moving, I saw his eyes open in a flash.
His gaze seemed blurry at first, for he looked around unfocused. But I could not help but watch in silence as he slowly gathered himself and sat up, the lid of the coffin falling with his movements.
I was terrified yet it didn't scare me enough to run away as I watched him look around, trying to decipher his surroundings.
Suddenly, he whipped his gaze toward me. I was stunned the moment our gazes met. Those eyes... they were gold in color.
I had never seen such type of eyes before. Was he wearing contact lenses? But, it didn't seem like it...
"Your eyes-" I blurted out and he looked at me quietly, waiting for me to go on.
"...they are unusual."
He didn't say a word in reply and simply stared at me, making me feel embarrassed.
Instead, he stepped out of the coffin, and instinctively, I took a step back from him. He was standing just a few feet from me but now that he was no longer in the coffin, I could see how tall he was.
I even had to raise my chin to look him in the eye. He must be at least 6 ft.
To my surprise, however, he suddenly approached me.
"What are you doing?" I blurted out, intimidated by his mighty presence.
He still didn't reply but instead, he walked even dangerously closer. I had never felt so terrified yet relaxed at the same time.
I was wary he would hurt me yet I wasn't scared of him. What is wrong with me?
I assumed a defensive position and looked at him skeptically. "Don't come near me. Or else, I'll hurt you."
This time he stopped. But, it wasn't because of me. His eyes suddenly glowed and he clenched his fists tightly. I couldn't tell what was going on but I knew he wasn't the same any longer.
Slowly, I began to notice what was wrong. I heard bones begin to crack and his face contorting out of shape. It was so fast that I couldn't grab what was going on completely but I knew it must have been very painful.
After the process, however, my concern was no longer that. Instead, it was on the nearly 3 ft 5 tall animal that now stood before me.
A wolf to be precise. A wolf with black fur and golden eyes. It stood on its fours and looked up at me, its eyes glinting with what I perceived was recognition.
The sight shocked me and startled me at the same time. And so, I did what any person would have done after seeing a corpse rise and turn into a wolf.
My eyes rolled to the back of my head and I fainted.
Author's POV
The wolf stood some distance away from Chelsea, observing after she fainted. It seemed pressed and disturbed as he moved its weight from one leg to the other.
Suddenly, he approached her and began to circle her cautiously yet seemingly excited. Occasionally, it would stop and look at her quietly before circling her again.
Just then, the doors of the hall opened with a bang and a tall figure rushed in. It was surprisingly the eccentric boy in Chelsea's new school, Torin.
He paused in his steps for a moment upon seeing the wolf standing beside Chelsea's body. But afterward, he clenched his fist as though tightening its resolve and rushed over to Chelsea.
But before he could pick her up, the wolf howled angrily, charging at him. Torin however, immediately transformed into a brown but smaller wolf and howled back at him.
The black wolf stopped howling and it looked at him suspiciously for some time. Its gaze moved from Torin to Chelsea repeatedly and eventually, it stepped back from her and didn't attack anymore.
Torin immediately swooped her body in his arms and turned away from the wolf, running out of the hall with her in his arms.
