Chapter Twenty One

Chelsea's POV

I scooped a handful of popcorn and munched on it as I watched the last season of Richard Pryor's show. I was in the house alone after everyone had gone to their respective destinations for the day.

Jasper and John had gone to school, and mom and dad had gone to work. So, I was all alone in the entire house.

No, I was with Richard in form of a TV. Humorless, yes I know.

But, Richard was one of my favorite stand-up comedians. My parents liked to watch his shows so I had gotten accustomed to his comedy. But, it couldn't help that he was also quite a talented man himself.

Suddenly, there was a knock on the door jolting me out of my thoughts. I jumped in fright as I was taken by surprise. I was even more easily frightened after learning that I had suddenly fainted in a room of the tower and no one knew what happened to me.

I heard the knock on the door again reminding me to open the door and check who it was. The knock became even more incessant and I wondered who was at the door that couldn't wait.

"I'm on my way already." I clicked my tongue. "Take a chill pill."

The door was not knocked out afterward. I looked into the peephole to see who was outside. But to my surprise, there was no one there.

I pursed my lips for a moment but then I figured the person at the door must have been standing by the wall and waiting for me to open the door.

"Who is it?" I asked, turning the doorknob and looking out.

But there was no one there. Instead, there was a small package on the porch. It was a bouquet and a small box was beside it.

I looked around but there was no one in sight who could have placed it there. I was stumped knowing someone must have deliberately placed it there for us but I was unable to decide whether to pick it up or not.

"Hello!" I called out, stepping out the door, and looked out our yard but no one was in sight.

"Is anyone there?"

I returned to the package and squatted beside it. Even if I was going to take it inside, I needed to check what was in the box.

I removed its lid and contrary to what I expected was a cookie bar inside. It was a chocolate crispy cookie. I stared at it quietly for some time before making up my mind and taking it in along with the bouquet.

I shut the door behind me, bolting the lock, and placed the box on the table. There was a small piece of paper in the bouquet so I pulled that out first and read the contents.

It read;

- Sorry for scaring you yesterday. I'll try and make it up to you.

P.S.: I didn't give it to you myself because I didn't want to alarm you by appearing in front of you.

I immediately chortled, "Way to go for not alarming me."

That being said, I turned the small flowery patterned paper around to see the sender's name but there was none.

Instead, I saw a small tattoo of a wolf howling to the moon engraved at the edge of the paper. It was very beautiful but what I noticed was that its eyes were surprisingly colored golden.

"What does this mean?" I muttered. Everything was weird and creepy. But I had a feeling that whoever sent it meant nothing bad.

So I sat on the couch once more no longer paying attention to the show but rather to the package in front of me.

I removed the bar of chocolate cookies from the box and scrutinized it. It was then I noticed the tape of paper on the box.

Like paper in the flower, it read, "I heard you like chocolate. Hope this makes you happy."

I found myself quirking a smile as I was the short message. But I was quick to regain myself.

How could I smile in such a situation? To a message from an unknown sender who wouldn't show himself - or herself. I was beginning to feel that I was very weird to not freak out from such a situation.

I didn't touch the cookies or even smell the flowers but I had taken the chance to look up what flowers they were and their meaning since I had no idea. It was blue hyacinth and was mostly used to express apology.

I contemplated silently; the sender was apologizing. But what could they be apologizing for and who was it?

I mulled over it for a long time as I equally had nothing to do anyway. But eventually, I took my mind off of and my thoughts strayed back to the tower.

I needed to know what happened to me exactly. Not only had I fainted but according to my dad, they had taken me to the hospital and there were no external or internal injuries found on me.

It was a matter that needed attention. Especially since none of the students could not say for sure that they had seen me walk down or even heard me scream.

I googled details about the tower once more but this time, I went into a detailed investigation. But still, I found nothing tangible. There was nothing that even reported that anyone had been injured or hurt since the tower was open to tourists.

It sullied my mood so I lay on the sofa intending to rest more. I was beginning to doze off, however, when the doorbell rang.
