Chapter Thirty

Alaric's POV
"You did what?" She asks startled. She just woke up and is already picking fights. The craziest thing is that I think she's actually upset. I had already woken up and healed about a week ago, thanks to my wolf abilities. But her, while unconscious, she is as fragile as a human especially because she is incapable of casting a spell that would heal her. Even with that, she still needs enough energy to cast a spell strong enough to heal her both internally and externally especially because of the injuries she sustained during the fight.
But here she is, scolding me for giving her half of my heart. As if I would let my mate, the love of my life, die in the hands of my enemies. I had rather not live at all.
I sigh and go to the side of her bed.
"Rest. You will need all the strength you can muster. You sustained a lot of injuries." I say dismissing her question.
"I will kick you so hard, you would forget your name because of the pain." This little threat of hers makes me chuckle.
"I doubt that would do a lot of damage darling." I tease
"Then maybe I would just cast a spell to do the work for me." She counters smugly.
I kiss the side of her head and pull her, making her lean into me.
"Yes my little feisty witch. I will accept what ever punishment you deem fit."
"I love you." She whispers.
"I'm dying." I choke out. Everywhere is quiet and the room is dim.
"No. You are not dying my love. I will not allow that. You saved me before, now it's my turn. You will just be asleep. Someday, I will find my way back to you and wake you up." She kisses my forehead and in that moment, in the urgency in her voice and her frantic actions, she has never looked more beautiful.
"I love you." I am startled awake and I realize it was all a dream. I have been having dreams like this since the day I woke up. It feels so familiar because it actually did happen. Five hundred thousand years ago, when the vampires first attacked. To preserve her life and enable her another chance at life, I sacrificed half of my heart which made me fall into coma.

However till date, I have been unable to know if she survived it and reincarnated as expected. I’ve begun investigations to look for her but it has been long ago and unlike me, her body could not be preserved.

So it is quite an hard task to find her.

But every time I am beside that girl, Chelsea, I feel exactly the same way I felt with my mate.

I look around and notice I fell asleep in my office. I see my papers scattered everywhere and immediately remember what made me throw them everywhere.
After the time I spent with Chelsea in the bathroom, I left feeling extremely confused, especially because she actually anticipated me kissing her and I also so badly wanted to. It's almost as if I lose all sense of my being the moment I am around her and I have absolutely no control over anything I do. Her scent is so intoxicating and her voice makes my pulse race. I get absolutely furious the moment I am not the one making her smile or laugh and I suddenly can not get her out of my head at all . It is so frustrating and exciting at the same time. I was battling with all these thoughts and feelings when my frustration ended up getting the best of me and I trashed my office.
There is a knock on the door making me groan.
"Come in." I answer in a gruff voice. i would request some rest because I actually need it, but our enemies would not understand that. The thought makes me chuckle.
I glance in the direction of the door and Cain walks in.
"Good morning Alpha." He says with a slight bow. I notice he is already well dressed and I realize that I may have overslept.
"Good morning. What is the problem?" I ask, puzzled by his presence this early morning.
"It is not a problem sir, but an update." He pauses, waiting for me to say or do something.
"Go on." I press.
"The witches sent in a message." He starts and I nod for him to go on. "They heard of your return and are offering assistance." He says.
"Assistance?" I ask.
"Yes Alpha. They are offering to fight with us against the vampires." He says. "They want to be on our side and fight with us." He adds with a little smile of victory. He should not be so happy yet. I have fought with the vampires before and according to the recent rumors I have been hearing, their army has doubled in five folds which is way more than my army and that of the witches combined.
"Okay. Tell them we are open to the offer and we accept their help." I say and he nods and turns to leave but I stop him. I stand up from my seat and walk over to him, stepping over the pile of papers scattered everywhere. "Tell the soldiers and guards to not be relaxed, not even for a second. Even with the help we are getting from the witches, you can never be too ready. You all have no idea what we are up against. Trust me."
"Always Alpha." He says quietly.
"You may leave now." I say dismissing him.
I don't know exactly why the witches have decided to offer us help. In the past, I would have assumed that it was because of my mate, cause she was one of them, but right now I am not really sure. Maybe it has nothing to do with us and everything to do with the fact that the vampires probably provoked them too. I mean, I would not put it past them. The vampires are notoriously known for provoking and disrupting the peace of every group they come across. They are selfish, greedy, envious of every little thing, and have been endowed by nature with way too many capabilities for their own good. I for one am hoping their strengths and pride end up being the cause of their downfall. I absolutely trust the witches though. They have never given me a reason to doubt them or their loyalty, and to be honest, my pack needs all the help we can get. Well, as long as we do not end up getting played, betrayed, or backstabbed.
