Chapter sixty three
Kayla's POV
Chelsea complained to me about Neo, his actions were suspicious according to her and she had to attend a party of his hence she invited me, I wanted to decline at first but Collan advised me not to, I've been close to him these past few days and begun to enjoy his company but there was still a hole in my heart which I didn't want to admit it's existence.
I decided to quick shop at a nearby grocery store to restock my fridge before I go to Chelsea's to attend the party, I was laughing at a meme Calling sent me when I bumped into some in the store, I raised up my head to see Torin, I expected him to walk away as usual but he simply stared at me.
"I'm sorry." I muttered and made to leave but he blocked my path which was strange.
"Is something wrong?" I asked him.
He smiled, the smile that makes my knees go weak, I mentally slapped myself for still finding him attractive after all he's done to me.
"Kayla, let's talk." He said huskily.
I could swear his voice sounded sonorous to my ears.
"There's nothing to talk about Torin." I said flatly.
"Please." He begged.
"Fascinating, what might we talk about Torin? You're about to remind me that you only used me as a pawn? Too late! I know that already, let's just never cross paths again okay? I wish you the best life can offer but don't forget Karma is a bitch, whatever you do will come.back to you." I said monotonously.
He smiled bitterly.
"I'm sorry Kayla, I know I've hurt you but it's for your own good, trust me, I really wish you knew but you don't and I think it's a good thing you've moved on, be happy." He said sincerely.
I huffed, was he trying to act like the victim? His eyes spoke his sincerity but there was no way I'd ever believe him ever again.
"Goodbye Kayla, always be happy." He said briefly and I could swear I saw tears in his eyes.
"Are you fine?" I found myself asking, I was somewhat worried about him.
"I will be, life's not fair to everyone dear Kayla, I'll do anything to make things right, but I can't." He said sadly.
He couldn't look me in the eye and moved closer to me, I thought he would hug me, he had held my hands and as if he remembered something, he simply pulled back, turned around and began to walk away, I was angry at him, at myself for making a complete fool of myself.
"Torin!" I yelled.
"You bastard." I cursed but he was long gone.
I broke down and began to cry, who was I deceiving? I still loved him and it hurt, my nose was blocked as I cried hard, a hand extended an handkerchief to me, I looked up to see a handsome young man, he was staring at me and I could swear I sensed a dark aura around him.
"Wipe away your tears, no one deserves them." He said encouragingly.
I took the handkerchief and blew my nose, he gave me one more and I cleaned my face, he gently took me to the counter and paid for all I bought then escorted me out.
"Please, let me take you home." He offered.
I was too exhausted to reject his offer and followed him to his car, he held the car door for me and I got in, he also got in and ignited the car, the windows were rolled up and he smiled at me, my vision began to blur gradually, I opened my mouth to speak but I felt too weak to.
"Don't fight it honey, sleep." I heard the man's voice and blacked out.
Chelsea's Pov
I hissed as I read another annoying message, recently; I've been receiving messages from an anonymous number telling me Alaric wasn't who I thought he was and that there are certain secrets I needed to know about him, I ignored them all because I knew better than anyone else who Alaric was, it would take just more than stupid emails and messages to convince me otherwise.
I dialled Kayla's number but it wasn't going through, it was almost time for Neo's party and I needed her to be there with me, I called Collan and he informed me she was home, I contemplated going to her place when my phone rang, I checked the caller ID and it was the same private number which always called to say nonsense about Alaric.
I ignored the call but it kept on ringing non stop, I finally pick it up as I was irritated by the disturbance.
"I'll find you and slit your throat open if you dare call my number once more!" I yelled to the caller.
I was about to hang up when I heard a familiar voice.
"Where am I?" I heard, I couldn't be possibly mistaken, it was Kayla's, my heart skipped a beat.
"You bastard! What have you done? Don't you dare...." I threatened.
"Shush Chelsea, your friend will be safe if only you cooperate and do exactly as I tell you to, all you have to do is come to an address which I'll text to you right away, you'll come alone and then I'll let her go." The voice instructed.
"What do you want?" I asked.
"When you get here, you'll know darling."
"You piece of shit, if you dare hurt as much as a hair on her head then I swear to God, I'll kill you, you hear me?" I warned.
"Yes, princess." The voice mocked.
I hung up immediately, almost instantly; a message popped up on my screen, the address was sent and I instantly recognized the place, another warning message also popped up, I was to come alone.
I knew it was impossible to call Alaric, he was on a mission as he said and there was no one else I could consult, Torin had probably left town by now, Kayla's life was in danger and my presence was the only key to her safety, I changed into an all black jacket and leather pants, I boarded a taxi and went straight to the address.
I texted Neo on the way that I'll not be chanced to attend his party, I alighted from the car at the appointed place and inhaled sharply as I saw the rusty building I was supposed to go into, if this was a year ago; I would definitely freak out but I knew that whatever happens; I will survive this but Kayla wouldn't.
I walked into the building, it was dimly lit and I walked cautiously, I heard footsteps behind me and when I turned to see who it was, I was greeted by the darkness, I was falling apart inside if me but I still proceeded.
"Who's there?" I yelled as I saw a shadow run past me.
I got no response, I walked steadily further into the dark room and the next thing I heard was a loud bang, followed by a hit on my head and I blacked out.
"Who's she?"
"Are you sure she's the one?"
"Good job, you did it"
"Is she dead?"
"Do we proceed with the ritual right away?"
"She looks young, too young."
"At last, our lord will arise."
"Too bad she'll have to die."
I heard several voices say, I groaned as I tried to open my eyes, I shut them close immediately as a banging headache hit me.
"She's awake." I heard a feminine voice and then cold water was poured on me.
I was now wide awake and looked around, I was surrounded by both men and women, they were mostly middle aged and wore black attires with black robes, I tried to stand up and then realized I was tied to a chair.
"What's their deal with tying me to chairs?" I muttered.
A woman who appeared to be in her late thirties or so came to me, she held my chin up and stared into my eyes, she was beautiful and I almost got lost in her ocean blue eyes which shone brightly.
"Who are you?" I asked her.
She crackled.
"Me?" She asked sarcastically.
"I am someone you should fear." She replied proudly.
I wriggle my nose.
"I've heard that before, you all are the same, what do you want?" I asked tiredly.
"You'll know soon enough." She replied cheerily.
I looked from her to the people around, there was a form of round table or so and they all say at it while I was placed in the middle, they pointed at me and whispered to themselves.
"What is it that you want this time around? Did you kidnap me with the motion of trying to lure Alaric out to kill him?" I asked them, getting impatient.
"Alaric? Curse him." The woman spat venomously.
"On the contrary darling, we don't need him, we have all what we need which is you." The woman said.
"Okay, so you need me for what exactly? Aren't you scared of Alaric?" I asked.
