Epilogue
-Nova-
*Five years later*
I watched from afar, as Rhys played around with our son. I had a cup of coffee in my hand, and it was early in the morning, but our son took after his father, liking the early morning hours and running around. Oh, he loved it when his father chased him, and Rhys was so good with our son, it just made me smile so much. I wasn’t much of a morning person though, but I just couldn’t miss this. It was just too good, and it made my heart fill with so much love.
“Hey.”
I turned my head and saw Serena and Elisa join me. We had all gotten very close over the years, and they were my best friends now. Funny, that it would be hunters I would become best friends with, but sometimes things just couldn’t be explained. Serena had a son too, a year older than mine, and they were already close our children. I knew they would continue to be close and hopefully become best friends too. Elisa was heavily pregnant though, and Serena had to help her sit down on the steps leading down to the big grass area where Rhys and Kai were playing.
“Where are your mates?” I asked.
“Still sleeping,” both of them said and chuckled a little.
Yeah, they weren’t morning people either, and they didn’t have the same reason to get up as me. At least not today.
“Are you just sitting out here?” Elisa asked. “Why not join?”
I shook my head.
“No, I love to see those two together. It makes me realize how close I was to never getting it,” I said.
“That’s depressing,” Elisa said. “Ouch!”
She looked over at Serena, who had pinched her.
“What?!”
I chuckled and shook my head.
“It’s fine,” I said. “No, I know how it sounds, but somehow knowing how close I wasn’t to getting this, only makes me appreciate it even more.”
“Oh,” Elisa said.
I could see Serena shaking her head, but then we all looked at each other and started to laugh. I really loved those two. They always knew how to get me in a good mood.
“What’s so funny?”
I hadn’t noticed Rhys coming over to us. He had our son in our arms, and I quickly placed my coffee down and took Kai, who quickly wrapped his arms around my neck.
“Nothing,” I said and kissed Rhys.
“Sounds secretive.”
I just winked at him, and he wrapped his arm around me, as we turned to the others.
“Okay, who is hungry?” Serena asked and helped Elisa stand.
“You know it means we have to wake our mates,” Elisa said.
“That’s going to be impossible,” Serena said. “How about we just eat?”
I chuckled, shaking my head, as we walked into the house, and I turned to my mate, just as we came inside.
“What?” he asked.
“I love you. You know that?” I asked.
He nodded.
“You have told me many times.”
“Well, I want you to hear it again. I. Love. You.”
Rhys smiled, looking at me like he saw no other than me.
“I love you too, little mate. So damn much,” he said.
He leaned down and kissed me, and I was just so happy that I chose to follow my brothers that night, or I might never have run into Rhys. I had lost a lot, but I had learned a lot too. I might not have my brothers, and I might always carry that guilt with me for what I did, but I was not going to let it stop me from living my life. I was happy, and I was loved. I wouldn’t change it for a thing. I wanted my life with Rhys, and I wanted a long one. In some way, I knew I would get my wish. There were many things I had doubted here in life, including myself, but I wasn’t doubting this.
He and I were forever.
