Chapter 30: A Kiss
-Rogan-
I shouldn’t play with fire. It was a bad thing to do, but I couldn’t help myself. I had wanted to be this close to Serena without her fighting me since I saw her. I wanted her to let me even closer. I wanted her naked, my hands and mouth all over her before I slid inside of her and we found pleasure in each other, but her guard was still up. I could see it, but it was clear she wasn’t used to being touched either. I wasn’t surprised about that. She seemed to be a very dedicated hunter. The only thing on her mind was the cause. This stupid, ridiculous cause that made no sense. She clung to it because it was her whole reality, but I needed her to let go of it. I needed her to let go, so I could make her mine.
“Stop that,” she said, but her voice was nothing but a whisper.
“Why?” I asked.
“Because I don’t like it.”
I held one of her hands above her head, but her other hand was free. She didn’t fight me though. She didn’t even struggle against me. She just laid there beneath me.
“I don’t believe you,” I whispered.
“Get. Off. Me,” she said and moved closer to make her threat seem more threatening, but it only brought our faces closer.
“No.”
I was really playing with fire. It was so stupid, but I simply couldn’t help myself. Not when it came to Serena. She said she wanted me away from her, but it wasn’t true. Her scent had turned slightly sweeter, and I knew that meant she liked me this close. She was starting to want me. Slowly, but it was happening.
I moved a little closer, so we were practically breathing the same air. Her eyes seemed to grow bigger, but she was not moving away. She was a curious one, this little hunter, and even if her head was telling her to move away, she couldn’t. She wanted to know what would happen. She wanted to know what it was like.
“If you want me off you need to fight me,” I told her.
She seemed surprised, almost like she had not noticed she wasn’t fighting. She placed her hand on my chest, trying to push me off now, but I easily grabbed her other wrist, pushing it over her head too.
“Hey!”
I didn’t listen to her protest but leaned even closer until our lips met, and I kissed her hard, pushing her back down on the bed, as I devoured her mouth with mine. Fuck, a kiss had never felt this good. Had never tasted so sweet, but Serena was my mate. Everything about her would be ten times better than anything I had ever tried. She would be perfect in any way, yet I barely got to enjoy the kiss before she sank her teeth into my bottom lip and bit through. I moved back and saw her glaring at me, now with a dark fire in her eyes. Her lips were coated a little in my blood, and I slowly ran my own tongue over my own lips, licking it all up. She watched me intensely, and even if she would deny it till the day she died, I knew she liked it.
“That was not very nice,” I said.
“Don’t touch me!”
I leaned closer again and she turned her head, looking away from me.
“You’re just angry because you know you liked it, and you want more,” I whispered in her ear.
“Go fuck yourself,” she just told me.
I chuckled a little, but finally and slowly, let her go. When I got off her, she made sure to make a lot of room between us while I laid down.
“I should kill you for this!” she said.
“You tried. You failed.”
“Give me a second chance and I won’t.”
I smiled a little.
“I wouldn’t let you kill me,” I said.
“Like you have a choice in the matter.”
“Serena, we need each other.”
“No, we don’t!” she said harshly. “I will never need you!”
“I can show you the truth, but I also need your help to win this war.”
“Never!”
I sighed, rubbing my eyes a little. We were going in circles, and I knew we would continue to do so for a good while. Serena was just too deep into this brainwashing thing. Too deep into the society of hunters. It would take some time to change her mind.
“You will see. At some point, it has to click that we are not the enemy.”
“You are to me!”
I pushed up from the bed again and turned a little towards her. She was curled up in the corner of the bed, looking like she was ready to flee, but she couldn’t run anywhere where I couldn’t get to her. I would stop her even before she reached the door, in fact. We had already tried it once, and she was a quick learner. She knew she couldn’t go anywhere.
“Tomorrow I will show you around,” I said.
“Don’t bother.”
“Serena, you will comply.”
“Oh, and why is that?” she asked.
“Because I can just carry you around if you don’t come on your own.”
She looked at me shocked and then shook her head.
“Oh yes I will,” I said as if I had read her mind.
“No!”
I nodded.
“I will gladly do it. So, you can either come willingly or not,” I told her.
“You’re a fucking monster.”
“No, I am trying to help you.”
“I don’t want your help. I didn’t ask for it!” she growled at me.
She was becoming more defensive, because as I had already said, Serena wanted more of that kiss. More of me. She just wasn’t ready to admit it, and it made her defensive, because if she liked it, then she betrayed everything she had been taught. I would show her there was nothing wrong with wanting your mate. It was completely normal.
“But you’re going to get it anyway.”
“Why?!”
“Because this isn’t just about you!” I said.
She looked at me confused.
“This is about all of us, and if I can change you, things will change for us,” he said.
“Why do you think that?”
“Because I know you’re a smart hunter and a well-trained one. You know a lot.”
“I’m nothing but a recruit,” she said.
“A recruit doesn’t go on such dangerous missions, and they certainly don’t get the honor of killing me,” I pointed out.
She lost her confidence a little, and that just told me I was right.
“You don’t fool me, Serena. I have fought against your kind for a long time,” I said. “I know you.”
“You don’t.”
“But I do,” I said. “Know your enemy. It’s very important. I know you have studied me too, just like the other wolves. You know how we work and think. You know how fast we heal and how strong we are. We might not know each other on a personal level, but we do understand how each other works.”
“I am just one hunter out of many,” she said.
I shook my head.
“I don’t believe that.”
“I am!” she said.
“No, you’re special, and I think you can tell us a lot,” I said.
“I will never tell you anything.”
“We will see about that,” I said, before I laid down again, and turned my head away from her.
It wasn’t long until I heard her move. I saw her walk over to the couch again and lie down. I sighed, not wanting to argue anymore, and let her have her way. We had a lot of work in front of us.
