Chapter 15: A Reason
-Nova-
I couldn’t believe Rhys, but … then in a way I could. He was a pack member. I was a rogue. Of course, we had different views of the world, but maybe it angered me more what he said because he was my mate. I didn’t like to think he saw me as scum, even though I couldn’t really accept him either. His words just hurt me more than I could say, and it was even worse when he called me not a real rogue. I had always wanted to earn my place, and being called not a real rogue by my own mate … that was devastating. It hit a sore spot.
“You make us sound like we are scum,” Rhys said.
“Maybe you aren’t as perfect as you would like to think.”
“What?!” he said.
“What?” I asked back, showing a lot of attitude.
Rhys shook his head and started rubbing his eyes tiredly. It was clear this talk was getting to him, and I couldn’t say it was making me very happy either. Actually, I felt really bad fighting with him, which confused me, because it shouldn’t. He was a pack member and I was a rogue. We were bound to be enemies, and should not have any pleasant conversations, but I didn’t seem to like fighting with him. It made me rather sad to do it.
“How the hell did we get here?” Rhys whispered.
I understood what he meant. This fight had suddenly just appeared.
“Maybe it shows we are not good together,” I said.
Rhys removed his hand and then looked at me shocked, before shaking his head and then walking closer to me. I took a step back, only to meet the door behind me. Rhys leaned closer to me, placing a hand on the door.
“No, don’t do that,” he said.
“What?” I asked, feeling nervous now that he was so close to me.
“Don’t use this as an excuse for wanting to get rid of me.”
“But we are not supposed to even like each other!”
“And?” he asked.
“And?”
“My friend was never supposed to be mated to a hunter either,” he said. “But now look at where they are at.”
“It is just … not right that a rogue and a pack member are mates,” I said. “It is even more unthinkable than a hunter and a werewolf.”
“Or maybe you want it to be,” he said.
“Rhys …”
I looked away, but he grabbed my chin, turning my head and my heart started to beat like crazy, as I looked into those incredible blue eyes. Goddess, I loved that color. Blue was my new favorite color.
“We can make it work,” he said.
“I might not have lived up to my title, but I wish to,” I said.
“But why?! Why do you wish to hurt people?!”
“Because it is who I am,” I told him.
Rhys shook his head and then moved closer to me. His lips were inches from mine, and we were practically breathing the same air.
“It doesn’t have to be.”
“We can’t change who we are,” I whispered.
“Says who?”
“You know it’s true. Rogues don’t change,” I said.
“Hunters don’t change.”
“Rhys …”
“Be the first then,” he said.
“I … can’t.”
“Yes, you can,” he said and moved his lips over mine, just grazing them with his.
It made me shiver, and he then pressed his lips a little harder against mine, before pulling back again. It was like he was coaxing me, trying to get me to come to him, and as he teased me again with his lips, I leaned closer, but he moved back. I groaned, frustrated.
“You want me too,” he said.
“I … shouldn’t.”
“But you do,” he said.
“Rhys … I am wrong for you.”
He shook his head.
“No, you’re perfect.”
“You have no idea who I am,” I said.
“Then tell me.”
I shook my head.
“You will only want to kill me.”
He just shook his head.
“I could never kill you,” he said before he kissed me hard.
He pressed me up against the door, and I couldn’t help but respond, wanting to be kissed by him so badly, and feeling his lips move over mine, demanding but still gentle. I wrapped my arms around his neck, and allowed myself, for a few seconds, to just lean into the kiss and enjoy it. And shit … I enjoyed it! I enjoyed it so much. I ran my hands into his hair, pulling a little, while his arms came around me, and before I knew it, he had picked me up. I wrapped my legs around his waist, and he brought us into a small living room to our left. He gently laid me down on one of the couches, as he continued to devour my mouth with his.
It was wrong though! A voice in my head kept shouting at me how wrong it was, not because he was a pack member, but because I was the sister to the ones who were destroying and ruining everything for Rhys and the others. I shouldn’t do this, and at the same time, I didn’t want him to stop, especially not when he ran his hand down my stomach and placed it between my legs. I whimpered as he started to rub me over my pants. Goddess, that felt good, and I only craved more.
“*Rhys* …” I gasped, as he moved lower, kissing and sucking on my neck.
He moved his hand higher, opening my pants, but I knew if I let him touch me, I would lose it. He would drive me insane, and before I knew it, I would be naked and ask him to mark me. I could already see it happening.
“W-We should stop,” I whispered.
I didn’t sound like someone who wanted to stop. Rhys just growled his disagreement.
“Rhys!”
His hand was on its way down my pants and I reached out, grabbing it, before I used my other hand to grab his hair hard, pulling it back. He hissed a little, but there was a smile on his lips, and his eyes were shining a faint yellow. It was clear his wolf was taking over some of the control. I wasn’t the only one losing my mind a little.
“You seem to like it a little rough, little rogue,” he teased me.
I rolled my eyes.
“Enemies,” I said.
“We could be a lot more than enemies.”
I shook my head.
“No, we are enemies, and enemies don’t kiss or … do other stuff,” I said.
He chuckled a little and I let go of his hair. He shook his head a little and then slowly removed his hands. His fingers were just grazing my underwear and the lower part of my stomach. I felt cold though, as he removed his hand.
“Maybe it was a good idea to eat a little first,” he said. “You will need a lot of energy for what I have planned for you.”
I looked at him shocked, understanding his hidden meaning.
“No!” I said.
He sighed.
“Enemies!” I repeated.
“Are you sure we can still call each other that?” he asked, as he hovered over me.
“We have to,” I said. “To remind ourselves not to get carried away.”
“I want to get carried away, Nova,” he told me honestly.
“You shouldn’t.”
“Give me a good reason why, and *I am a rogue* does not count. I told you I want you, which means I can look beyond that,” he said.
I opened my mouth to give him a good reason, but I realized, that if I gave him one I would be risking my own life. I couldn’t tell him who I truly was and why I was out that night. So really, I had no good reason.
