-Rhys-

No, I had not thought this plan through exactly. I just knew I couldn’t let Nova go. It was too much of a risk. I might never see her again if I did, and I had finally found her! I had finally found my mate. I couldn’t believe it had to be a rogue, but I couldn’t be picky. I had waited for too long, and I might never find another. This was my one chance, and I would not risk letting it slip from my hands. So, when Nova said there were a lot of things I didn’t know about, it made me think about Rogan’s and Serena’s situation. She had known a lot of things too, and it had helped us in the end. Maybe Nova could help us too with this rogue problem because I knew it wasn’t solved tonight. The rogues had quickly found out it was a trap and run off. They were very fast and agile. We needed to figure out where their base was, and Nova could tell me that, and even if she couldn’t, I didn’t care. She was my mate and she belonged with me.

“Oh Goddess, please Rhys just let me go!” she begged me.

Dammit, it sounded good when she was saying my name like that.

“Can’t do that,” I said and brought us outside.

“Rhys?”

Rogan quickly noticed me and looked at me confused, as I walked out with Nova over my shoulder.

“What is going on?” he asked.

“I got someone for us to interrogate,” I said.

“What?”

“Don’t worry, Rogan, I got this under control,” I told him.

“Rogan?!” I heard Nova whisper-yell scared.

Rogan watched as I walked by him and put Nova in my car. I just smiled at him and told him that I would see him at the house. It was clear he wanted to talk now, but I didn’t want to risk Nova running off. I had to get her home, where I could hopefully tie her to the bed, or maybe that was a wish for the future. She did look like someone who was ready to jump out of the moving car though, so kept glancing at her, as she sat beside me.

“Rhys … just … just pull over!”

I shook my head.

“Rhys!”

“I can’t do that,” I told her.

“Why?!”

“Because we are mates,” I said.

“I don’t want to hear it! Okay, I don’t want you!”

I looked at her angrily, as my wolf moved around impatiently inside of me, wanting to teach our little mate a lesson to never say anything like that again. She must have seen how much her words pissed me off, because she looked away, looking almost guilty.

“I just don’t want to be here,” she whispered.

“It will be okay. I won’t let anyone hurt you,” I said.

“Oh, right …”

“It’s true,” I said.

“You want answers and if you have to torture me, then why let it stop you?” she asked in a low voice, sounding so sad like her fate was already sealed.

“I just didn’t want to have the discussion about you being my mate with my alpha out there,” I said.

“Rogan is your alpha …”

I nodded, even though it wasn’t really a question.

“Rogan … the alpha of all alphas …”

“It’s a stupid title he doesn’t even like,” I said. “Just Rogan, or actually he will be your alpha now.”

“What?!” she said and looked at me.

“Well, since you’re my mate, it gives you a direct pass to enter the pack, and that makes Rogan your alpha,” he said.

“I won’t follow him!” she said.

“Nova …”

I made it clear she should be careful about what she was going to say next. I could not have this discussion now, and I would definitely not let her insult Rogan in any way. I understood the thought was strange to her, considering she was a rogue and she was used to following her own rules, but things were going to be different from now on that she was my mate. She might as well just get used to it.

“What?! He is not my alpha!” she shouted.

“But he will be, once we are officially mated,” I said.

“I don’t want us to be!”

“Nova, don’t go too far.”

“How is it going too far to say I don’t want you?!” she asked angrily.

It was clear she was getting angrier and stronger now that we were out of the house and I was driving us back to where I lived. She needed to know right now that I was not letting her go no matter what. I would not lose my mate now that I had her. I pulled over and then unfastened my seatbelt before moving closer to her. She reached for the handle, but the car was locked. I reached out and wrapped my hand around her throat. I didn’t squeeze hard or anything, but I knew she felt my power anyway.

“You’re mine, Nova,” I whispered darkly.

She swallowed hard.

”I am not letting you go.”

“You can’t keep me as yours,” she whispered, scared.

“Why not?”

She looked down, and I felt there was more to this than just us being a rogue and a beta who had been paired for some reason.

“Nova?”

“We don’t fit together,” she said.

“I don’t care,” I told her.

She looked up at me, and it felt like the distance between us suddenly grew so small. I leaned closer, wanting to feel what those sweet lips felt like against mine and if she tasted as sweet as she looked, but before I got a chance, she turned her head, and instead, I kissed her cheek.

“You can’t kiss me,” she whispered.

“Why not?”

“Because … you can’t.”

“Don’t be scared of me,” I said.

“I am …”

“You don’t have to be. I would never hurt you or let anyone hurt you. You’re my mate. My job is to protect you,” I told her.

“I don’t want you to …”

“Nova …”

“Stop saying my name,” she said.

“No.”

She turned to me and looked so angry, but it gave me the chance I needed and I leaned closer and kissed her. Never had a kiss taken my breath away, and she even pulled away so damn fast, but just that little contact left me so hungry for more.

“W-Why … did you …”

“Why shouldn’t I kiss my mate?” I asked.

She seemed to have turned bright red though, and she was breathing fast, almost like she was scared. I didn’t want to think it was true, but her reaction told me it was.

“Was that your first kiss?” I asked her.

“No!” she lied.

“It was.”

“Stop it!” she told me, yet I wasn’t sure what she wanted me to stop.

“Good, then I don’t have to go kill old lovers,” I said.

“Kill them?!”

“Of course. I am the only one who should have access to your beautiful body,” I told her and ran my thumb along her lower lip.

She looked at me shocked. It was clear I was awakening a lot of new feelings in her, and she had no idea how to react. This was going to be a lot of fun. I just wondered how it could be that Nova had never been kissed. Rogues were known to be savage in many ways. They usually weren’t waiting around for the perfect one. It was rare they even found true mates. They often just chose. I had so much to find out about my mate, and I couldn’t wait to learn more.
