Chapter 7: Enemies
-Nova-
He kissed me!
I mean he … kissed me. Goddess, I was completely frozen, as he started the car and drove home. I didn’t know what to think or say or do. I just sat there like a fucking statue, still feeling the tingling feeling of his lips against mine. I had always wondered what it was like being kissed, but even if a boy just as much as looked at me with desire in his eyes, my brothers would strangle him. I was not allowed to be alone with someone of the opposite sex if they weren’t there. I know it was crazy how overprotective they were, but I guessed they feared that every guy treated women the same way they were doing. Rhys had only kissed me though … unless … what would happen when we got back?! Oh no … I needed to get out of here and I needed to get out of here fast!
So, when the car stopped and he unlocked it, I sped out of there, not even looking back. I heard him yell after me, but I didn’t slow down. I was almost at the forest when suddenly someone grabbed me from behind, yanking me back. I let out a little scream before I was turned around and looked up at a very angry beta.
“No fucking running,” he told me.
“Just let me go!” I yelled.
“I told you, I can’t do that.
“Yes, you can! You just won’t!”
He smiled a little and seemed to think about what I was saying.
“You’re right. I won’t.”
He then threw me over his shoulder and I started to kick my feet in the air and push away from him, but he was damn strong. My mate was just too strong. He easily carried me back to the house and inside and up the stairs and all the way back to what I presumed was his bedroom. It smelled like him, and it was actually very nice. There was a big king-sized bed pushed up against the wall, a nice seating area in the middle of the room, a few bookshelves filled with books, and two more doors that I was not sure where led to. Rhys put me down on my feet again, the world once again spinning before my eyes. He held onto me though, making sure I didn’t try anything funny.
I looked around the room a little. It was actually very, very nice, I realized. Better than what I had stayed in, but they probably had some help from some lone wolves to keep this place clean or something. Rogues weren’t really known to be the tidiest ones.
Wait … What was I doing?
Wasn’t I supposed to get out of here before he decided now would be a good idea to get me out of my clothes? I looked up at Rhys, shaking a little, but he didn’t really move. He just held onto me.
“C-Could you let me go?” I asked.
He seemed to only now realize he was still holding onto me, and he nodded, surprising me as he let me go, but then he went to close the door and locked it.
Ah great …
I turned around, as I was facing him, and then held up my hands as he stood there watching me like a predator ready to pounce.
“Okay, let us not do anything rash here,” I said.
He tilted his head a little to the side, confused.
“I am not here as someone you can play with!”
“What?”
I moved further away, over to where one of the windows was and looked at how far we were up. I could probably survive the fall, but I would break my legs, and broken bones took longer to heal. I couldn’t really run after that.
“I have been warned about guys!” I told him and pointed to the floor. “I will not let it be so easy!”
“Warned?”
“Exactly!”
Rhys smiled a little.
“You’re a strange rogue,” he said.
“What?” I asked.
He walked closer and I quickly chose a way around him, running to the other side of the room and pressing myself up against the wall.
“You stay there!” I told him. “I might have let you kiss me, but nothing more will happen.”
“What do you think is about to happen?” he asked as he came closer.
I chose to run around him again, but this time he caught my arm and pressed me back against the wall.
“I … I … I am not stupid!” I told him.
“I didn’t say you were.”
“So … just … don’t,” I told him.
“Very threatening.”
“What am I supposed to say?! It’s not like I can actually fight you. You will win,” I said.
“You’re right, I will, but I would prefer it if we didn’t fight,” he said.
“Why?”
“Why?!” he chuckled.
I nodded.
“We are enemies,” I said.
“For now.”
“No, no, nothing for now. We ARE,” I told him.
Rhys shook his head.
“I am sure we will find a way to get along. We are mates after all,” he said.
I shook my head too.
“No, we won’t find a way, and you should let me go,” I told him.
“I don’t know how many times I can repeat myself. I. CAN’T.”
“Yes, you can!”
“Nova …”
The way he sighed my name made me shiver, but it was not in an unpleasant way. No, it felt damn good.
“Stop that,” I said.
“Stop what?”
“Saying my name like that,” I told him.
“Like what?”
He truly didn’t seem to understand what he had done that I didn’t like, and it only confused me more.
“Just … stop it! And let me go!”
“Are you done running?” he asked.
I shook my head.
“No.”
“Then I am not letting go,” he said.
“Rhys!”
“Yes?” he said and smiled.
“You’re … You’re impossible!” I told him.
He chuckled a little and then moved closer. I turned my head, so he couldn’t kiss me again, but he didn’t. He just leaned down to where my marking spot was and slowly ran his lips over it. It was like I lost all strength in my body, and if he wasn’t holding onto me, I would be on the floor. I felt suddenly warm and achy all over. I knew that spot was sensitive. It was on all wolves, but it was something entirely different when your mate was showing it some attention. It made me melt and made my core tighten in need.
“A rogue that smells good. Now that is something I thought I should never scent,” he said and moved back.
His eyes were glowing a soft yellow and his canines were longer. He probably had a strong need to mark me right now, but he didn’t. Why would he? I was a rogue! We did not belong together no matter what our wolves were shouting in our heads.
“I usually am a very patient person, Nova,” he whispered and moved closer. “But you are making me lose all control.”
I was?
“I …”
Suddenly Rhys seemed to be a little distracted, looking at the door and the yellow color disappeared. He sighed, and I realized someone had mind-linked him.
“I will be gone for a little while. Don’t try anything,” he told me, and then just left the room, but not without locking the door behind him.
