Chapter 18: Showing Her Around
-Rhys-
Nova was an interesting person. It was the most normal things for me that seemed to scare the shit of her. I loved to think about spending my life with her and falling in love. I could just imagine our lives together, living here, and hopefully, one day starting a family together. We would definitely have an interesting story to tell our kids. Their mother a rogue and their father a pack member, and not just any pack member, but a beta. I could just see it all, and I loved the thought of it.
“I don’t think … Well, we …”
“Not right now, Nova,” I said. “We are not falling in love right now.”
She just nodded but looked scared.
“Maybe just with time.”
“Well, falling in love isn’t really … I have never thought about it,” she said honestly.
“Never? Do rogues not fall in love?” I asked.
“I guess some do. Most just … have different partners and … choose who they want to mate with,” she said. “Very few rogues find their true mate, so they often choose or just choose someone to have a pup with.”
“Interesting.”
“Do a lot if you get mates?” she asked.
I nodded.
“Yes, it is very rare someone doesn’t,” I said. “I thought I might be one of them though. It is why now, that I have you, I am not letting you go.”
“Despite the fact I am a rogue?”
I nodded.
“But you aren’t really …”
I stopped myself, as I saw the look on her face turn into anger. For some reason, it was very important for her to be “a real rogue”. Whatever that meant. I was not sure why it was so important. Rogues were hated and often very cruel. Why did she want to be associated with them? She was so sweet, careful, and kind. I couldn’t see why she wanted to be a rogue so badly. I would have to figure it out though. Maybe if I found the reason for it, then I could make her see why it was a better choice just to stay with me.
“Despite you being a rogue,” I corrected.
She smiled now, and I loved the sight of it.
“Now, do you want me to show you around?” I asked.
“You want to?”
I chuckled and nodded.
“This is going to be your home too. You should know how to find your way around.”

After we had eaten, I took Nova around the house first. She looked so curiously at everything, and almost like she wasn’t sure what to make of it. I did notice the people we walked by giving her funny looks, but when I met their eyes, telling them not to look at my mate like that, they turned away. Nova barely seemed to notice them, she was so interested in everything we looked at, and when we walked outside, she seemed even more impressed, and especially when she saw a lot of the pack members either having a nice time together or training together. I guessed she wasn’t used to seeing people work together or actually liked being together, despite coming from a rogue pack herself. I thought perhaps they understood better how important it was to have a good relationship with each other, but maybe not.
“So, can we go into the forest?” she asked.
“Something you want to look at?” I asked.
She shrugged, but I felt there were some things she wanted to see. I wasn’t sure what exactly, but I didn’t feel like it was a good idea to take her there yet. I wanted us to trust each other, but it didn’t mean I trusted her yet.
“Maybe tomorrow,” I said.
She turned to me and looked puzzled, but I just nodded towards the house, telling us we should go inside again. It was already getting a little late, and Serena wanted us to all go out together.
“I will go find you some clothes,” I said as we went back to my room.
Nova looked surprised that I dared leave her alone again, but I just went to find Serena. Serena was taller, but I hoped there was a dress she could borrow or something. I knocked on the bedroom door, and I could hear voices on the other side. I shook my head, and when Serena came to open the door, her hair was a mess and she was only wearing Rogan’s t-shirt.
“Shouldn’t you two be getting dressed?” I asked.
She smiled and just shrugged.
“We are!”
“Right. I am sure you are,” I teased.
She chuckled and leaned against the doorframe.
“Is it a good idea to leave your little rogue mate alone?” she asked me.
I looked behind me, down the hallway where I had just come from. I lived on the same floor as Serena, Rogan, Marcus, and Elisa, so I wasn’t far from my own room.
“Why not?” I asked and looked at her again.
“She was about to take off this morning.”
“I am aware,” I said.
“Hey, what is going on?”
Rogan appeared behind Serena, only wearing a pair of sweatpants, and I just smiled, shaking my head.
“Nova needs to borrow some clothes,” I said.
“Oh right!”
Serena went away, and now it was just Rogan and me, who couldn’t stop smiling at me.
“So, you finally found her,” he said.
I nodded.
“How is it going?”
“Well, she has only tried to run once today,” I said.
He chuckled.
“Yeah, feels very much what I went through with Serena,” he said.
I nodded.
“That is why I feel hopeful,” I said.
“Let’s just hope she does too,” he said.
“She isn’t like other rogues,” I said.
“How do you know that?”
“She has never hurt anyone. She is second generation. She isn’t even a real rogue,” I told him.
“What?”
I nodded, smiling a little.
“She has no crimes to pay for,” I said.
“But then why was she out that night?” he asked.
I shrugged.
“I am not sure, but I am trying to figure out more about her. It will take some time, but hopefully, she will tell us more, once she trusts me,” I said.
“Let’s hope. That rogue pack might have been fooled last night, but they won’t be so easily fooled again,” he said.
“I know …”
“Here you go!”
Serena came running with a dress and a pair of black shoes.
“I hope they fit,” she said.
“We will find out,” I told her. “Thank you.”
She smiled and Rogan placed his arm around her.
“If you need help with her,” Serena began.
I shook my head.
“No, I think I can handle this one,” I said.
“You sure?”
“She isn’t what you might think,” I said. “She is actually very sweet.”
“Really?! A rogue?”
I nodded.
“I will see you guys later,” I told them and walked away, not able to stay away from my mate for long.
