Chapter 28: Don’t Want To Be A Rogue
-Rhys-
Maybe I was being cruel for asking. Maybe I shouldn’t be playing with her like this, but I just wanted her to see, that she fitted right into my life. She and I were meant to be together. There was no doubt about that, but I knew Nova doubted. She believed she could only be one thing, but I knew we could be so much more. She just had to believe it too.
“Well?” I asked.
“Well …”
“It is a simple question,” I said.
She shook her head.
“No, because my answer will complicate everything,” she told me.
“Tell me how.”
She shook her head.
“I can’t Rhys,” she said.
“Yes, you can, because you can trust me,” I told her. “You can always trust me.”
I smiled at her, and I saw her looking at me so shocked. I was constantly surprising my little mate tonight, and I loved it because I was proving to her, that I wasn’t at all as she had been raised to believe.
“Can we just focus on the food?” she suddenly asked.
“Nova, answer me.”
She groaned loudly.
“Fine! No!” she said.
I smiled, proud of my mate to admit this. It was not an easy thing to admit.
“That’s what I thought.”
“But it doesn’t change what I am, or what I need to do,” she said.
“What you need to do?” I asked confused.
She seemed to pale in front of me, and I couldn’t understand why.
“I mean what I should be doing,” she said.
“And what should you be doing?”
“Get out of here!” she told me.
I shook my head.
“No, you are my mate, there is no need for that.”
“There is because I am rogue too!” she said.
“I know.”
“But you don’t seem to truly understand it. I was raised to be someone who took and didn’t apologize for it because a pack member would never apologize for turning us into what we were. We are supposed to be as unforgivable as you are!” she said.
“And do you really think we are so unforgivable?” I asked.
She turned quiet but then started to shake her head.
“That is what is confusing me …”
“What?”
“You are not at all as I thought.”
I smiled and reached for her hand again, and she turned to look at me, as I grabbed it.
“I am glad to hear it,” I said.
“It is too confusing, Rhys,” she said.
“I am not asking you to decide anything right now. I am just asking you to try and let me in,” I said. “I will never hurt you, Nova. I have been waiting so long for you.”
She looked at me for a long time and then smiled.
“Can we eat now?”
I chuckled and then nodded.
“Let’s eat.”
The food really was heaven, but even though I knew Nova enjoyed it too, it was not enough to make her not wonder why I had brought her out tonight.
“So, why tonight?” she asked.
“What?”
“Why did you ask me out tonight?”
“Well, I have been busy lately,” I said. “I wanted more time with you.”
“But I sense there is more going on,” she said.
I sighed and knew I couldn’t keep things a secret for her.
“I am going out on a mission tomorrow,” I told her. “And … And I don’t know when I will be back.”
“What?!”
I nodded slowly.
“The rogues have been behaving very weirdly lately. Not really attacking, but still getting on people’s territory and looking through it. They take some stuff, but they don’t really kill as they used to. It is almost like they are looking for something,” I told her.
She seemed to turn pale again, and I looked at Nova for a long time.
“You wouldn’t know what they are looking for, would you?” I asked.
Nova quickly shook her head, and I sighed. It was too early. She was not going to trust me with any information yet. That was okay. It would come.
“Well, we need to go and handle the problem,” I said.
“We?”
“Well, Marcus, Rogan, I, and a few warriors are leaving. We hope a smaller group might be able to move faster, and then we will meet up with some people from other packs. We need to get the problem handled and quickly. The attacks can’t continue,” I told her.
Nova slowly nodded, but she suddenly seemed swept up in her own thoughts.
“Nova?”
She focused on me again and smiled.
“I understand. So, you wanted one night away before you had to leave.”
I nodded, even though it wasn’t a question.
“Then we should make the most out of it, right?” she asked.
I nodded again and then saw her suddenly eating very fast.
“Why in such a hurry?” I asked her.
She smiled and drank some water before she leaned a little closer.
“Well, we have all night together, right?” she asked.
“Yes.”
“Do we really want to spend it here?” she asked.
My heart started to beat faster.
*Is she suggesting what I think she is suggesting?*
I wasn’t sure what to tell my wolf, but I really hoped I was reading her correctly, because shit, I wanted her. I wanted her so fucking badly.
“Where else would we spend it?” I asked.
She smiled a smile I had never seen before and placed her chin in her hand.
“Maybe at home,” she said.
“Doing what?”
“Well, I think this night should be you and me, so we should definitely be somewhere where the others aren’t,” she said.
“And that would be?”
“In our room,” she said.
It didn’t go by that she had said our, and it only made me happier than I had ever been. I was starting to get an idea of what she meant.
“Do you finally want to be mine?” I asked.
“I was thinking that we spent this night together as if it was your last, and if you come back, then I will be yours,” she told me.
I liked that. No, I really fucking loved that, because thinking about making her mine would definitely give me a good reason to come back, and I couldn’t wait.
“Let’s get the damn check. Screw the food.”
