Chapter 4: Waited So Long For Her
-Rhys-
When I came out here tonight to help take care of this rogue problem, the last thing I expected was to find my mate. I was certain I would never find her. Both Marcus and Rogan had now found theirs, and they were so damn happy, yet I could feel this crushing loneliness, knowing that was something I would never have. I had been so wrong though. Here she was. So small, and looking at me with these dark big eyes.
Dark eyes …
Shit …
Rogue … yet she didn’t have that rotten smell normal rogues had. No, all I smelled was the sweet scent of forest and rain. It was like a drug and I just wanted to inhale it deeply into my lungs before I claimed her hard.
*Mate!*
My wolf didn’t even have to say the word, because I knew she was. She was everything I had ever dreamt of, except the rogue part, of course. She was quite small, barely reaching my shoulders, but she had this sweet little heart-shaped face and a small nose and sweet plumb lips I wanted to adore with my own. Shit, I grew a little harder, just watching her.
She was scared though. Very damn scared, and she took a small step back. It made me growl a little because I didn’t like seeing my mate scared and wanting to run from me. She was going to. I could see it in the way she was leaning her weight back a little, but when she turned on her heel, I grabbed her arm before she got too far away. She quickly reacted, pulling her arm back and punching me in the face. It hurt us both though. Male wolves were created stronger and tougher, so I knew it had hurt her hand quite a bit, but I had to say she knew how to punch too. My hand slipped a little and she was able to get out of my grip, but I reached out and grabbed the collar of her jacket, pulling her back.
“No!”
I wrapped an arm around her, as she started to fight me, and then I brought her into the room that she had come out of. She kicked the air and tried elbowing me in the face. She was a feisty one. Even as I put her down again, she was not done. She whipped around and tried punching me again, but I grabbed her fist this time, turning her arm, and she hissed in pain.
“That’s enough!” I said.
She didn’t listen and tried to kick me instead, but I blocked her leg too, and then ended up pressing her against the door, to make sure she couldn’t move.
“No! Let me go!”
“Easy now!”
She kept turning her head, and her cap eventually fell off her head. All her wonderful dark hair fell down and sent a wave of her sweet scent towards me. I inhaled deeply, unable to help myself, and it made the little rogue freeze, as she watched me practically shake from the pleasure just her scent was giving me.
“W-What are you going to do with me?” she asked, scared.
Her voice was shaking, and I hated to see the look on her face, but she was a rogue too. How could this all be so messed up?
“I’m not going to hurt you, if that is what you fear,” I said.
“I’m a … I’m a rogue,” she stammered.
“And we’re mates, apparently.”
She swallowed hard and shook her head. Her voice was like a caress over my skin though, and I wished to always keep her talking.
“N-No, our wolves must … must have made a mistake,” she said.
“They don’t make mistakes about this.”
“So … So, now you reject me and hand me over to your alpha, right?” she asked.
Oh, she was just so scared, her whole body was shaking. She was nothing like the rogues I had run into in the past. They were always so vicious and while they, of course, were scared of dying, they weren’t terrified and shaking like this little one. How had she even become a rogue? Was it an act?
*No act, the smell of her fear stings in our nose.*
My wolf was right. I had focused so much on her sweet, natural one, which was meant to lure me in, that I hadn’t really listened to the other signs her body was showing. That she was very scared and terrified of what was going to happen now.
“Reject you?”
She nodded.
“Only thing to do … right?” she asked.
“Do you want me to?”
She stared at me shocked, her big eyes turning even bigger.
“I …”
She could barely speak, so scared she was, and all I wanted was to comfort her. I wanted her to feel safe with me, and lean on me for support like real mates did.
“I’m a rogue and you … you … are a-a-a pack member.”
“A beta actually.”
“S-s-s-ee,” she stammered.
Oh, my mate was just so cute. Even scared, she just looked good enough to eat. I had no idea it was going to feel like this. Like you could barely think straight and all you wanted was to give this person everything they desired. It was so powerful, that I forgot why I was even here tonight, and what sides we were on.
“You’re right,” I said.
She swallowed hard.
“We are on opposite sides.”
She nodded.
“Y-Yes … s-so … reject me,” she said.
“Why don’t you say the words?” I asked her.
“M-Me?!”
I nodded.
“Won’t it just make you … angry and … want to … kill me?” she asked.
Her question made me see she was smart. She knew how strong I was, and against me, she didn’t stand a chance, despite actually being quite the fighter. She knew the best way to get out of here alive was to make sure I didn’t lose my temper and was suddenly thirsty for blood. She had no idea I was not just a ruthless killer or that I was a person who couldn’t control my temper, but how could she know that? All she knew was that she was a rogue and I was a beta, and those two things did not go together. It was actually quite the surprise, that the Goddess thought we fitted together, but apparently, we did, and I had waited so long for her … Could I really reject her?
*No!*
No, both my wolf and I already knew that was simply not possible. We could not reject her. We had waited for too long, and who knew if we would even get a second chance if we did?
“I could promise I won’t get angry and kill you,” I said.
She swallowed hard again, clearly not sure what to think. We were standing so close, and I kept her hands pressed to the door behind her. I wanted to let go of her though and explore the rest of her body. I could barely get enough just looking at her here in the dark. I needed her in my bedroom, naked and with the lights on so I could see every little inch and I could adore it with my hands, lips, and eventually, cock.
“I …”
“Go on,” I said, challenging her to see if she wanted to say the words.
“I … You … You should say it,” she said.
“Why?”
“Because why would you not?” she asked.
I smiled.
“Maybe I just don’t,” I said.
“No, you want to,” she said.
“You can read my mind or something?”
“I am rogue!” she said.
My smile grew a little, finding her a little amusing.
“I know.”
“So, why not reject me?” she asked.
I looked into those dark eyes, trying to make her see I was only going, to be honest with her, and she seemed surprised that I was not looking at her with hatred or disgust, but how could I? She was my mate. She was supposed to be loved and taken care of by me.
“Because I have waited a long time for you. I won’t reject you now.”
