Chapter 32: Exploring His Territory
-Serena-
I wasn’t really sure what this was going to prove to me. We were just walking around the house at first, and Rogan was showing me the way they lived their lives. Of course, no matter who we came by, they all looked at us with a displeased look … or, they looked at *me* with a displeased look. They didn’t dare look at their alpha like that, even though he was the reason I was here. I would much rather be far away from here …
After we had gone around the house, and he explained where everything was, we walked outside, and onto a big grass field, where a few people were just enjoying their day.
“Don’t these people have jobs?” I asked as a joke.
“They do,” he said.
“What?”
I looked up at him.
“Not everyone, but we all contribute to the pack. Some work in the human world and others work from home. I do, of course, take care of most of the financial stuff. I am the alpha after all,” he said, yet it didn’t sound like he was bragging or anything.
We continued to walk, while I thought over what he said. I had never really thought about what werewolves spent their time on. My job was just to rid the earth of them, and not to wonder about what they did for a living. We continued into the forest behind the house, but I wasn’t sure why we were going this way.
“Is it here where you kill me and bury my body for no one to find?” I asked.
Rogan looked at me with a look that said, *really*? And I just shrugged as a response.
“What?” I asked. “Is it so weird that I ask?”
“Yes,” he said.
“Oh right, because you can’t kill me.”
“Because why use all this time on you if I just wanted to take you into the woods and kill you?” he asked.
“Well, maybe you wanted to do other things to me first,” I said.
Rogan looked at me confused.
“Torture me.”
He sighed and shook his head.
“I tried,” he said. “Didn’t go very well.”
“Right, you didn’t like torturing me.”
“I never like torturing anyone. Do you?” he asked.
“I don’t spend my time on that,” I said.
“Really?” he asked and stopped.
“I deliver,” I told him as I turned to him.
“And what does that mean?”
“I go on a mission and I kill.”
“You never capture?” he asked.
“I do,” I said.
“So, it is just not you who does the torturing.”
“I have got other things to do,” I said and looked into the woods, just as a wolf appeared, stopping as he saw us, and then when he looked at Rogan, who nodded calmly to him, he disappeared again.
“Like what?” Rogan asked.
“What?” I asked as I looked at him, forgetting what I had said.
Rogan turned to me again.
“What other things do you spend your time on?” he asked.
“Lots of things,” I just said, not wanting to tell him anything about me.
“You can tell me, Serena,” he said as he started to walk again. “It is not like you will ever leave from here.”
“And that sentence just ruined my day,” I said.
“You know it is true.”
We walked through a small stream, and then even further into the woods. I was starting to get a little nervous here.
“Where are we going?”
“I just want to show you the border control,” he said.
“Border control?”
“Fighters of mine. They keep the borders around my territory safe,” he said.
“Safe?” I asked.
“Hunters aren’t the only thing to be concerned about,” he said.
“What else?”
“Rogues.”
“Rogues?” I asked.
“People banished from their packs for doing horrific crimes. They like to make trouble once in a while, but also rivaling packs.”
“Wait? Are you saying you wolves are fighting against each other?” I asked.
“Do all humans get along?” he asked.
“No,” I said.
“Then you got your answer.”
“Yes, but aren’t you the alpha of all alphas?” I asked.
Rogan huffed a little as I called him that.
“What?”
“Just because I might be this alpha of all alphas doesn’t mean I rule everything,” he said. “I got that title because I stepped up when people needed me to, and I turned around the war.”
“Interesting,” I said.
He looked at me and smiled, but just quickly looked away.
“Now tell me something about you,” he said.
“No thank you.”
“Serena, you know you aren’t leaving from here. I can’t allow it.”
“So, I am your prisoner,” I said.
“Did you think you were a guest?” he asked.
“No …”
“Just because you are my mate, I can’t really just let you roam around freely. I am pretty sure if I gave you a knife in your hand, then you would stab it into my back the first chance you got.”
I couldn’t really deny that, could I?
“Fair point, but I am not here to become friends with you.”
“You’re right,” he said. “You’re here to learn.”
“Learn?”
We suddenly stopped and then we just stood there, looking into the big woods.
“What are we doing?” I asked.
Just then, two big male werewolves appeared to our left, and I turned my head to look at them.
“Alpha,” one of them said, only glancing shortly at me, while the other was glaring at me with a deadly look.
“Status?” Rogan asked.
“Everything is calm.”
“Any sight of any hunters?”
The one who was doing the talking shook his head.
“Then carry on.”
The two of them walked past us and continued further into the woods. I looked after them until they disappeared and then turned to Rogan.
“Hunters?”
“Someone might come looking for you,” he said.
“Don’t count on it,” I just whispered before I walked in the opposite direction of the two wolves, knowing Rogan would follow.
