Chapter 35: Car Keys
-Rogan-
Serena was poking her food, not eating even a little, and I didn’t like that. We were in the kitchen again after we had walked around until it got dark, pretty much, and Serena had stayed quiet the whole time, just listening to me and letting me explain how things worked around here. I wasn’t sure what to make of it. Her silence was almost worse than her bratty attitude, and it made me a little concerned. Maybe it was the kiss that was still freaking her out. It had been one hell of a kiss though, and I would not be sad to repeat it.
“Stop looking at me,” she said annoyed.
“You’re strangely quiet,” I said.
“Would you like me to be a pain in the ass then?”
“I think I might prefer it,” I told her.
She just shook her head and sighed before pushing her plate away.
“You’re not done.”
“I am,” she said and crossed her arms.
“Why are you always so difficult?” I asked and took her plate, bringing it over to the sink, before placing it down and resting my hands on the counter. “I mean honestly, Serena, after everything I have said already and what you have seen today, why keep fighting me? Do you really want to constantly cling to this idea of a fake reality you have?”
I turned around but was surprised when I found her standing right in front of me.
“What?” I asked.
She had a strange look on her face, but then suddenly she jumped a little, wrapping her arms and legs around me, and then her lips were on me. I was so surprised that I wasn’t sure how to react at first.
*Kiss her back!*
My wolf pushed me out of my trance, and I quickly wrapped my arms around her, placing my hands on her ass and then placing her down on the kitchen island, before I truly leaned into the kiss, devouring her mouth and getting that sweet taste of her. It seemed like Serena couldn’t help but want me either. Maybe she had been so quiet, because she was fighting an inner battle, and it was clear what side had won.
“I still hate you,” she leaned back and whispered before kissing me again.
She sounded all breathless and needy, and it made me smile like a fool.
“You got a funny way to show it,” I said before I started to kiss my way down her neck.
My hands went under her shirt, moving upwards until they were on her perky little breasts, which were just begging for some of my attention. She leaned her head back and moaned so sweetly, it was enough to drive me insane. Her hands went into my hair, pulling a little.
“This isn’t happening,” she panted, but she didn’t ask me to stop.
I was about to pull the shirt off her, so I could run my mouth all over her and explore every little inch when the door to the kitchen opened.
“I really fucking hope this isn’t happening.”
Serena and I pulled away from each other and turned to Rhys who was leaning against the doorframe, looking from Serena to me and shaking his head.
“You’re supposed to be mortal enemies,” he said.
Serena and I were both panting, and I couldn’t help but glance at her, wanting more of her. Why did Rhys have to enter now?
“We are,” I said.
“Yes, sure does look like you two hate each other.”
Serena looked away, and I hated my beta right now for ruining this. Eventually, Serena pushed me away, so she could get down, and then she walked out of the kitchen. I let her go, knowing she needed some space right now, and because I knew Rhys wanted to go off on me right now.
“Really?!” he growled when Serena was gone.
“She is my mate. What did you expect?” I asked.
“Not finding you almost fucking her on the kitchen,” he said.
“I can’t help it.”
“You’re supposed to win her over not fuck her!”
“I can’t help it!” I repeated. “I want her! Badly.”
“You don’t say,” he said and shook his head. “But what comes first?”
I sighed.
“The pack.”
“It doesn’t look like it,” he said.
“What do you want me to do?” I asked.
“Get what you need out of her, and then let her go,” he told me.
I shook my head. I couldn’t even think the thought of letting her go. My connection to her was only growing stronger and stronger, and I wanted her more and more. When I finally got that information we needed, I would be too tied to her.
“I can’t.”
“She brings us in danger,” he said.
“I can’t,” I just said.
Rhys shook his head.
“I knew bringing her here would end badly.”
“She is my mate. I can’t just stop that.”
“And Eric? Julianna?” he asked.
I sighed deeply. I knew I had something to fix there. I had ignored Eric for too long already. He wanted answers.
“You’re really choosing this perfect she-wolf over this hunter?” he asked.
“I … I don’t know,” I said.
“I think you do actually,” Rhys said.
“I’m losing my mind!”
“You don’t say.”
“But I think she is changing,” I said.
“Even if she is, people will never accept her. You can’t have a luna no one will accept. It will make others turn against you,” he told me.
“I know …”
“So, what then? You’re fine with that?”
I shook my head.
“But I can’t let her go either. I’m too attached already.”
“Dammit, Rogan,” Rhys said.
“I know … I’m screwed no matter what I do. If I choose Serena, people will hate me. If I choose Julianna, I might just go crazy.”
Rhys sighed, running his hands down his face and looking as lost as me.
“Well, then …”
Suddenly there was the sound of a car turning on, and Rhys and I looked at each other with fear in our eyes.
“That can’t be.”
“Fuck,” I said.
We both stormed out of the kitchen just in time to see one of the cars driving away, and I caught a glimpse of the driver.
“Serena!” I shouted after her.
“Let’s go!” Rhys said, pulling his car keys from his pants and we both went over to his car.
“I can’t fucking believe her.”
“Does it really surprise you so much?!” he asked me angrily.
Maybe it shouldn’t … but it did. Serena must have taken the keys from me when we were kissing. Smart little hunter, but it also made me fucking pissed. How dare she use me like that?! I was going to show her exactly what happened to disobedient mates when I caught her.
