Chapter 25: Chased

-Serena-

No, I didn’t think it through, when I jumped from my seat and ran out of the kitchen. I just knew I had to get away from Rogan, and out of there. I had a pretty good idea of where the door was, but not long after leaving the kitchen and running down a little hallway, I saw some other young werewolves coming my way. They had just turned a corner, and I quickly turned around as well, going back the way I had come. I was one hunter! I could not fight them all, and especially not with how wounded I was.

“Serena!”

Rogan appeared at the end of the hallway, looking rather pissed. I looked behind me, seeing the young wolves had now noticed me. I quickly looked around for an escape and opened a door closest to me, jumping inside and smacking it closed behind me. I looked around myself and saw a door at the other end of the room. I reached it just as Rogan opened the door behind me.

“Serena, get back here!”

I didn’t listen to him, and went out of the next door, but I didn’t really watch where I was going, and tripped over the carpet that appeared on the other side. I fell forward, landing on top of a few female werewolves who were all just looking like they were having a nice time in the little living room I had come into. They all looked at me shocked, and not just the ones I had practically thrown myself over. I quickly pushed myself up though, but they could not get over the surprise, and all seven of them just looked at me.

“Sorry,” I said, because I had been surprised too.

Usually, I never really apologized. I had only done it in a very few situations where I had to. I always did my job perfectly. I didn’t mean to apologize to those animals, but it was the first word that came to mind.

“Serena!”

I looked over my shoulder, seeing Rogan appear. I quickly ran around the couch in front of me, and jumped up on the coffee table, making a mess, as I pushed cookies and mugs filled with coffee and teacups out of my way. The women shouted at me now, but I didn’t care. This was the fastest way through, because their legs had been in the way.

Rogan wasn’t shaken so easily and quickly followed me, as I left the living room, coming out into the big entrance hall. I ran towards the door, but it opened and in came a handful of young male werewolves, who all stared at me shocked.

“Ah fuck!” I said and sped the other way.

“Serena!”

“Don’t call me that!” I just shouted.

I didn’t want him to call me anything. I didn’t even want him to speak to me, but it wasn’t that easy to get rid of the alpha of all alphas. He continued to follow me through the house, and soon I found another room to go into, yet in here a lot of young wolves were sitting around having some sort of … tea party. They looked at me surprised, and I looked at them, but when I heard Rogan calling for me in the hallway on the other side, I quickly turned to the small children.

“Hide me,” I said.

They all seemed like they didn’t know what to do, but they probably thought I was playing a game or something, because all the girls came over to me and pulled me to a closet at the other end of the room, telling me to go inside. It was a smaller walk-in closet, but it still had a lot of room for me. They closed the door, and I was forced to stay there in the darkness, just listening and waiting.

It didn’t take long before I could hear voices on the other side. I held my breath, hoping he wouldn’t hear me, and closed my eyes, begging the universe not to let him find me, not that I believed anyone was listening, but in desperate times …

Suddenly, the doors opened, and a very angry-looking Rogan appeared in front of me. It didn’t look like he was sweating at all or looking tired from chasing me, where I, on the other hand, was breathing heavily and my clothes were sticky to me because I was sweaty. My wounds were pounding though because I had strained myself.

“Sorry! We tried stopping him!” one of the smaller girls said.

I was almost surprised when I heard her apologize. Why would she? I was a hunter. They must have known I was the enemy.

“Don’t apologize,” Rogan said, but his voice was much softer when he spoke to them. He didn’t take his eyes off me though. “She doesn’t deserve it.”

“Aren’t you playing hide and seek, alpha?” one of the taller ones asked.

Rogan turned his head and finally looked at them, giving them a soft smile.

“Of course, but she was cheating by asking for help.”

All the girls just let out an *oh* sound, as if they understood the game now. I sighed annoyed and crossed my arms, as Rogan turned to me again.

“Last time,” he told me and held up a finger, pointing at me. “Don’t make me chase you again.”

He kept his voice lowered so the kids wouldn’t hear us.

“Or what?”

“Or I will throw you over my knee, showing you how disobedient mates are handled.”

I stared at him shocked, and I couldn’t tell if he was joking or not. He would spank me? Like a fucking child! What was the matter with him?!

“Get out.”

I did as he told me because I couldn’t tell if he was actually serious. I told myself he was just joking, finding a good way to get me to do as he said, but something in me told me he was very serious. He grabbed my arm shortly after, smiled at the girls before leading me out of the room.

“Let go!” I snarled, as Rogan closed the door behind us.

“You don’t fucking do that again,” he said, as he pulled me down the hallway.

“Did you really expect me to just sit down and look pretty?” I asked.

Rogan stopped and turned me to him.

“Where would you go?” he asked.

“I …”

“You don’t know this place. You don’t even know where you are!” he said.

“Oregon.”

“Are you sure?” he asked.

I looked at him confused.

“See? You aren’t, and even if it is true, then you wouldn’t know where in Oregon.”

He had a point. I had no idea where the hell we even were, but I didn’t like to admit that.

“Now you’re going to behave for the rest of the day,” he said.

“Why?”

“I just told you why.”

“You wouldn’t dare!” I said.

“You want to test me?” he asked and moved closer to me, so there we were only inches apart.

We stared at each other for a long time, and I still couldn’t quite read him. Would he actually throw me across his knee, or was he just trying to shake my confidence?

“And if I call bluff, would you do it right here?” I asked.

“A bit hard to do it in the hallway, but my office isn’t far from here,” he said.

I continued to study him, not sure if he was just continuing the joke for fun, or because he could see I couldn’t read him, but he just arched an eyebrow, challenging me to do something.

“You’re not serious,” I said.

“Are you sure?”

He knew just what to say to make that voice in my head make me doubt myself, and I couldn’t help but look away, exactly because I wasn’t sure.

“I thought so,” he said.

“What do you want from me?” I asked, looking up at him.

“I want you to be quiet, not run and do as I tell you to.”

“Ah, so a fifties housewife,” I said.

He looked at me confused, but maybe the werewolves did it differently in the fifties. Who the fuck knew?

“What does that mean?” he asked.

Again, I couldn’t tell if he was just trying to confuse me, but I decided not to explain, shaking my head.

“Forget it.”

He sighed, and grabbed my arm harder, pulling me with him, but I wasn’t sure at all where we were going.
