Thank you so much, mommy!” Jenna said in a sweet voice that caused Bethany to wonder since she knows she didn't do anything for the little to be so delightful like this.
Bethany squinted her eyes at Erica demandingly but Erica simply shrugged her shoulder.
“You're the best mommy ever,” Jenna said disengaging from the hug as she stared at her mom with the looks of admiration in her eyes.
“But what have I done? why are you leaping with joy?” Bethany asked with a curious gaze
Seeing this scene, Jenna thought that Bethany was trying to play a mind game with her, so she simply put her hands behind her back in protest. After staying that way for a while, she came forward again and said.“What are you trying to do, Miss Burnett? Do you want to play games with me? Don't worry, I've already caught your surprise”
Just then, she went back to the door and took hold of a rope, dragging something along with her at a slow pace.
As soon as she was standing in front of Bethany, she moved aside revealing a cute, little puppy bided with a rope.
Jenna looked down at the puppy with so much and admiration that one would think that she had seen a gem for the first time.
Then, she squats down and removes the rope around the puppy's neck. She turn around to look at Bethany again, “I told you caught your surprise. Now, you're the one instead. You bought me my favorite puppy. Now, I'm going to love you so much and be a good daughter to you from now on” Jenna said with a look of assurance in her eyes.
Only then, did Bethany realize what was happening? Jenna had always wanted a puppy but Bethany was scared that Jenna might get bitten by it as she had already experienced a dog bite before, but the little one kept insisting on having one around. So, after a few months of fights and arguments, Bethany decided to look up a cute, little puppy that would keep her company before the start of school.
The delivery was scheduled for next week, so she didn't know that they'd had the puppy delivered already, that was why she was in a daze for a couple of minutes.
Heaving a sigh, she said in a gentle voice.“Oh is that so? You've forgiven your Mom now after seeing a puppy? I can't believe how tricky you can be, Jenna” Bethany said pinching the little girl's cheeks as she couldn't resist the urge to kiss her.
She has really missed having her in a happy mood, but now she is back in her old form and now she's going to be extra sweet with the arrival of the cute, little puppy.
“Hey, Miss Burnett, I was never angry with you, alright? I just wanted you to get me my little puppy as well as some time for me, but no you refused to get my puppy and you didn't have enough time for me either. How can a little girl like me survive such a phase?”.
“If a little girl like you can't survive such a phase. then, why are you still surviving and living healthily?”
Jenna pouted her lips as she couldn't come up with a tangible argument, then she quickly recalled her words.“It's because I'm not such a little girl, you know. I'm five years old. I'm a little adult, that's why I'm surviving this phase ”.
“Oh is that so? You're good at making up stories to suit your narratives, don't you?”.
“I'm not making up stories, it's just the plain truth but you have refused to believe this fact”.
Bethany felt defeated as she had never won against the little girl before so she decided to switch things as she still had some other things to set up before the runout.
“I know you're always right, so there's no need to stage an argument right now. Come, I should go get you ready for bed, while your godmother sets up the tables for dinner”.
“Alright, Miss Burnett. But, can I bring my puppy along to bathe?”.
She asked looking down at the puppy, which was sitting on the floor.
“What? You can't bring the poor little thing along! what if it caught a cold? What will you do then? I'm sure you don't want it to catch a cold, right? so you can't bring it along”. Erica yelled out in fright upon hearing the little girl's request. She knew that Bethany might probably give in to the little girl so she spoke up first.
Jenna felt bad as she looked up at Bethany pleadingly.
Bethany nodded her head in disagreement.“Your godmother is right.”
With that, she finally succumbed and decided to leave the puppy in the living room while she goes take a bath first ”.
“Don't worry, it won't go anywhere, I'll be here watching over the little puppy, so you shouldn't worry about it escaping ”.
Erica replied as though she had read the little girl's mind.
“Sure. But, you shouldn't hit it as you did to me, godmother ” She warned before following Bethany out of the living room.
As soon as Bethany took Jenna to the bathroom for a quick shower, Erica quickly went to the kitchen and came back with a bowl of milk for the little puppy. After that, she went back to the kitchen as she quickly make arrangements to laid the table.
She quickly set the table for dinner after that, she went over to inform Bethany to come out for dinner. Then she went to her room to take a shower.
Thirty minutes later,
After what seemed like forever, they finally sat at the table to have dinner, while Jenna kept glancing at the little puppy, which has already polished off the bowl of milk that Erica had earlier placed in front of it.
Immediately, after dinner ended, Jenna succumbed to sleep as she seemed tired from running around all day, so Bethany bent over and carried her to the bedroom.
Upon laying her down on the bed, Bethany glanced at the sleeping face of the little girl.
She was sleeping peacefully as she pouted her lips in her sleep, Bethany couldn't help but feel endeared by this expression.
After taking her to bed, Bethany left the room and closed the door behind her.
“She was very happy earlier,” Erica said as soon as Bethany stepped into the living room.
She was sipping on her cup of coffee
“Yes, she was very happy about the arrival of the puppy. She seemed ecstatic”. Bethany replied with a warm smile on her face.
After that, silence soon followed as both of them stared at each other without either of them saying anything to the other person.
It was so silent that even the sound of a pin drop could be heard.
After a while, Bethany cleared her throat as she asked.“What about your meeting with Danica, when is it?”.
Sitting up straight, Erica replied, saying“ She had requested for a meeting tomorrow, however, I asked the secretary to inform her that I would get back to her after checking my schedules”.
“You should accept to meet up with her, and talk about the plans for the designs she would be needing.”
“But wouldn't that be giving her a quick opportunity? what if she gets suspicious that a big company like ours is interested in her?”.
“You know people like her are too conceited to get suspicious quick enough. moreover, the more we delay the meeting, the more our plans get delayed so we should act now since the event is three months, we could get a chance, you know”.
“Okay, if you say so . I'll arrange a meeting with her in a few days. We'll reject the meeting for a couple of days more”. Erica replied as she scrolled through her phone.
“That should be fine then. And oh! the house is ready, both you and Jenna would be moving over there as from tomorrow, we wouldn't want them suspecting why Miss Burnett lives in a condominium, right?"
Just then, Erica had a look of realization on her face as she seems to have been reminded of something.
“Oh, that! I almost forgot about that matter. But would your daughter agree to play along with this?” She asked worriedly.
“Why not? She's smart and understands things around here, so you don't have to worry about her cooperation. She'll agree to it”
“So, how was your first day at the blue ridge company? ”Erica asked out of the blues.
She's been dying to hear all that had transpired at the company earlier today, but Bethany didn't tell her anything before then, so now that she had the chance, she quickly popped the question.
Bethany heaved a sigh before saying anything.“ What do you think would happen? I met she-devil at the company, I'm talking about the arrogant and self-conceited Joanna Meyer. She got on my nerves today, but I didn't have the time to go on a shady spree with her”.
“I knew something like this was going to happen, that's why I didn't want you to go over there. I wish I was there, I would have given that arrogant jerk a piece of my mind and put her in her place. who does she think she is?”. Erica was infuriated after imagining how much humiliation Bethany must have faced at the company.
“All the more reasons I don't want you over there, you're going to ruin things for us. Moreover, you know me well, I'm not going to allow that petty chick to get in my way this time” Bethany replied, wearing a determined expression.
“Yeah, sure! always acting tough”
Erica said with a sarcastic tone.
“I don't need you to look after me, I'm not a kid that needs your protection, let's just focus on making the plans work. Now, that they've given us a chance to make a silent movie, and they won't even realize when the storm hit them” Bethany said with a smirk on her face as she curled her lips into a sneaky smile while looking straight at Erica.
Erica just watched for a moment.
“It's late, lets go to bed. There's a lot to be done tomorrow” Bethany suggested, and she immediately stood up and left.
Erica followed suit as well as she kept yawning nonstop.
