The next day_
Bethany came out of her room bearing a gift but she looked rather skeptical about it, then she suddenly to the coffee table and flung the wrap of the gift on it. Just then, Erica came out yawning profusely and kneading her eyes to wipe off the sleep.
Upon seeing Bethany sitting on the couch, she asked.“Oh! you're awake already? why are you sitting here in the dark all by yourself?” She asked looking around.
Bethany merely pursed her lips as she didn't bother to give her an answer.
After a while, Erica simply shrugged her shoulders saying.“Never mind that. what are we having for breakfast, I'm starving do hard” She clutched her stomach tightened as she groaned in pain. Just then, her eyes fell on the gifts on top of the coffee table.
She went over and raised it from the table and looked all over.
“I see! So, you came prepared this time. huh? why don't you go give her the gifts and wish her a happy birthday first? She asked, swerving around you see Bethany looking pensive as if she was in deep thought.
“And oh! I also got a gift!” She exclaimed bringing the gift out from behind.
Bethany simply looked up at her, she wasn't interested in why Erica was so happy about this.
Erica came to the couch and pulled her up forcefully.
“Come, let's go. She must be dying to have us with her now. Come on ”
Erica led the way, while Bethany trailed behind her with a sad expression on her face.
As soon as they got to the entrance to the little girl's bed, Bethany heaved a sigh as Erica counted before pushing the door open.
“One!”
“Two!”
“Ready!”
“Go!
The door was pushed open as shouts of happy birthday filled up the room.
“happy birthday to you!”.
“Happy birthday to you!”
“Happy birthday dear Jenna!”.
“Happy birthday to you!”.
Both Erica and Bethany sings as they clapped their hands in accordance. Their loud voice echoed throughout the whole place, and Jenna woke up immediately after hearing their voices.
Her face was lit up with joy as she couldn't contain the happiness in her heart–it was such a heart-melting moment for her since her mother was here to celebrate with her on this day; the last time, she had missed her birthday and didn't even wish her. the little girl had sulked all day.
Seeing Bethany standing in front of her, Jenna was speechless. Suddenly, she flung herself into Bethany's embrace and stayed that way for a while.
, “Hey baby, I got you your favorite!” Bethany said engaging from the hug, then she handed her the wrapped gift.
“Arent you going to open it now? Come on, open it!” Bethany urged.
With this, Jenna slowly unwrapped the gifts without making a mess of the gift wrap as she was fond of keeping her gift wraps along with the gifts.
Immediately, she finished unwrapping the gift her eyes sulked in a daze for a couple of minutes before she covered her mouth with her palm in shock.
She looked eccentric!
Her eyes were ogling in different directions as she couldn't believe her eyes.
Mommy got her the best gifts that she had been wanting for a long time. She's a huge fan of barbie dolls and wanted to have the biggest size, but Bethany had insisted that she should behave one at the time since it was way bigger than her size–she might get choked by it. Not only that but a laptop as well!.
The little girl quickly leaped up and throw herself onto Bethany in a warm embrace, while shouting, “I love you, mommy! You're the best mom in the entire universe!” Jenna exclaimed as she hugged her mother tightly.
“Uhm! That's enough already!” Erica coughed causing the emotional mother and daughter scene to come to an abrupt end.“ I also got you a gift” She handed over her gift as well.
“Do you like it?” Erica asked expectantly.
After glancing at it, Jenna got out of the bed and hugged her legs tightly as she said.“I love it so much, Thank you, Aunt Erica”.
“Oh! is that so? I was scared that you wouldn't like it but here you are”
Erica heaved a sigh as if she had been holding back her breath before.
“Were you scared, I want going to like your gift, godmother?” Jenna asked seeing her reactions.
“Of course not. why wouldn't you like it?” Erica denied
“That's enough you two. Go take a bath and come down for breakfast Erica and you too, Jenna.”
Bethany urged when she noticed it was already bright outside.
Immediately, Jenna hopped into the bathroom while Bethany went towards the close to bring some clothes for her. Erica soon turn around and left the room.
Soon after, they were seated at the dining table. As Bethany put some food in the little girl's food.
After eating for a while, Erica dropped her cutlery and looked up at Jenna, before saying.“Jenna baby, mommy has something to tell you” She said beckoning on Bethany to continue.
Upon hearing Erica's words, Bethany dropped her cutlery as well and used a napkin to wipe her mouth before saying anything.
She hesitated for a while, then she succumbed as she said.“ Baby, will you do something for mommy this time?” She asked looking at the little girl in the eyes.
With tho, Jenna quickly dropped her spoon as she focus her gaze on Bethany, then she pursed her lips and said.“Why would you act so formal with me, mommy? of course I would anything for you. Just tell me”.
Bethany felt her heart-melting hearing the sweet voice of the little girl assuring her.
“From onwards, I'm no longer your mommy. do you understand ?” Bethany finally said the word. immediately, the little girl froze in the air as her lips pouted and her eyes turned teary.
“Mommy doesn't like Jenna anymore ?” She asked in a soft agonizing voice.
“No, that's not the truth, baby. I don't want you getting hurt by staying by myself, Jenna. The truth is, we are going to play a game with some people, so in this game, we have to divide ourselves into different teams so that we can cover more grounds and win the golden prize”. Bethany tried to explain he a language that she would understand.
Jenna wasn't having any of that as she quickly hopped down from the chair and cling to Bethany before asking in a childish voice. “Why can't I be in your team this time, mommy? I want to be your daughter”.
“Do you love mommy?” Bethany asked.
Jenna nodded her head as her eyes refuse to leave Bethany's face alone for even a second.
“I love you, mommy,” Jenna said.
“So can't you do this little thing for Mommy, then? if we split up we can defeat the bad guys and win the race. So you'll do this for us, right?” She asked looking into the little girl's eyes.
Jenna simply pursed her lips then she put her hand on her head as she thought of what to say. “Fine! miss Burnett, I can be my godmother's daughter for a few months, after all, she's my mommy as well” Jenna said shrugging her shoulders.
Bethany smiled hearing her response. with that, she quickly stood up from the ground and went back to her seat. Erica instantly clapped her hands.
“I'm your new mommy, Jenny”.
Hearing this, Jenna rolled her eyes at her.
While they were still having breakfast, Sandra walked into the room carrying a bag of documents along with her.
“Good Ma'am, here are the documents for the new projects and the previous two we had.”She explained bringing out some files from the bag, she dropped them in front of her and waited anxiously.
Bethany picked up the files and scan through them for a few minutes, then she dropped them back on the table as she raised her brows to glare at Sandra, before saying a word.
“I want you to make sure that my names doesn't appear under any of this contracts or even the fact that I'm affiliated in any way to the Deluxe Company. Do you understand that?”.
“Yes ma'am, I'll get to work on it right now” She quickly assured. Then , she was darted around the table filled with food.
Seeing this , Erica invited her to join them.
“Why don't you join us for breakfast? I see that your mouth is already watered” Erica said picking up a piece of meat from the plate.
Sandra blushed when she heard what Erica said. But she wasn't offended as she quickly took a seat next to Jenna. Jenna did not say anything to her as she was busy enjoying her piece of meat.
“And oh ,Sandra. you shouldn't forget the details too” Bethany recalled.
Erica picked up a napkin and wiped her mouth. Then, she said .“Jenna, I'm taking you out to celebrate your birthday later tomorrow!” She sounded excited.
