Chapter 105: Where the Heart Leads.
Aurora’s POV
My mother scoffed. “Divorce? Me?”
Alpha John nodded. “Yes, April. We both tried, but you refuse to change.
Your addiction is ruining everything.”
“I wanted this to work,” he continued, “but you won’t let go of the drugs.”
She scoffed again. “So, you think divorcing me will make me change?”
He nodded. “If you change, I might reconsider. But if you refuse, I have no choice but to take this step.
I am divorcing you, April Holmes.”
April’s eyes widened in shock. “You can’t do this to me!”
Alpha John sighed. “I already have. This is not just about us anymore. It’s about the pack.”
She shook her head, stepping back.
“No… You’re doing this because of her, aren’t you?”
She pointed at me with fury in her eyes.
I swallowed hard, but I held my ground.
“This is your own doing, April,” Alpha John said firmly. “Not Aurora’s. You made your choices, and now you have to face the consequences.”
Tears welled up in my mother’s eyes, but she quickly wiped them away, masking her emotions with anger.
“Fine. If this is what you want, then so be it. But don’t think for a second that I will just walk away quietly.”
She turned on her heel and stormed out of the hall, leaving an eerie silence behind her.
I let out a shaky breath. It was over. Or at least, I hoped it was.
Leonardo reached for my hand, squeezing it gently.
“Are you okay?”
I nodded, but deep down, I wasn’t sure.
Something told me my mother wasn’t done yet.
Alessandro turned to his father. “Are you okay, Father?”
Alpha John didn’t answer. He just walked away, leaving everyone standing there.
I understood why. Today had been overwhelming. He had made a huge decision to divorce his Luna, he found out that his long friend had been trying to take over his pack and also he had just found out that his son was in love with his stepdaughter. That was a lot to take in.
But what I couldn’t stop thinking about was how Alessandro had defended me again.
My mother had always blamed me for her life turning out this way, yet he stood up for me without hesitation.
Leonardo’s voice snapped me out of my thoughts.
“Let’s go. You need to rest. You’ve been through a lot today, Aurora.”
He gently led me out of the hall. As we walked, I glanced back at Alessandro, who was speaking to one of the guards.
I wanted to thank him for standing up for me, but now wasn’t the right time.
So, I turned back and followed Leonardo.
Leonardo led me back to my room, his grip firm but gentle. When we got inside, he closed the door and turned to me.
“Are you okay?” he asked, his voice full of concern.
I sighed and sat on the edge of the bed.
“I don’t know, Leonardo. Everything happened so fast. My mother, your father, Lena… it’s just too much.”
He sat beside me and took my hand. “I know, but I promise, you’re not alone. I’m here for you.”
His words were comforting, but my heart still felt heavy. “What about your father? He looked so upset.”
Leonardo sighed. “He needs time to process everything.
But I meant what I said I love you, Aurora. I won’t hide it anymore.”
Hearing him say that should have made me happy, but instead, I felt nervous.
“What if he never accepts us?”
Leonardo cupped my face gently. “Then I’ll fight for us. No matter what.”
I closed my eyes, leaning into his touch. I wanted to believe him. I wanted to trust that we would be okay.
But something still didn’t feel right.
Then, a knock at the door made us both jump.
“Who is it?” Leonardo called out.
“Sir.” A Guard’s voice came from the other side.
I quickly wiped my eyes and stood up. Leonardo opened the door, and the guard spoke, his face serious.
“Alpha John wants to see you in his office,” he said.
Leonardo exchanged a glance with me before nodding at the guard.
“I’ll be there in a moment.”
The guard gave a small bow and left.
I swallowed hard. “Do you think he’s going to—”
“I don’t know,” Leonardo cut in, his jaw tightening. “But I have to face him.”
I reached for his hand. “Leonardo, whatever happens, just remember you’re not alone in this.”
His expression softened, and he squeezed my hand. “I know.”
He kissed my forehead gently before turning to leave. As the door closed behind him, I let out a shaky breath.
Something didn’t feel right.
I walked to the window, staring at the dark sky. The night felt really quiet, as if something big was about to happen.
I should be over joyed that Leonardo had decided to be with me, but I wasn’t that joyful and I wondered why.
Why was Alessandro coming to mind everytime Leonardo spoke, I felt like…. I was missing something.
Why was Alessandro coming to mind every time Leonardo spoke?
Why did I feel this strange pull toward him, even when I should be focusing on the man who had just chosen me?
I shook my head, trying to push the thoughts away. Maybe it was just the stress of everything that had happened today.
My mother. Alpha John. Lena. It was too much to process all at once.
I turned away from the window and hugged myself, hoping the uneasy feeling in my chest would go away. But it didn’t.
Just then my phone rang and I walked towards my bed and picked it up and saw that it was Annie.
Oh…Annie, she was always the only one I could talk to about this things. I took a deep breath and swiped the phone to answer.
“Hey, Aurora. How did the wedding go?”
“It was a disaster, Annie. You should have been there.”
Annie gasped. “What? What happened?”
I let out a tired sigh and sat on the edge of the bed. “Lena tried to force Leonardo into marrying her. She even kidnapped me as a backup plan.”
“Wait—WHAT?!” Annie practically yelled through the phone.
I winced and pulled the phone slightly away from my ear.
“Yeah, it was insane. Alessandro figured everything out and stopped her, but not before she made a huge scene.
And now… Leonardo has chosen me, and his father is furious.”
There was a pause. Then Annie spoke, her voice softer.
“And how do you feel about that?”
I hesitated. “I should be happy, right?”
“But you don’t sound happy.”
I swallowed, gripping the phone tighter.
“I don’t know, Annie.
I love Leonardo, I do… but something just feels off. And I don’t know if it’s because of everything that happened today or… something else.”
“Or someone else?” Annie asked gently.
My breath caught in my throat.
Alessandro’s face flashed in my mind his sharp words defending me against my mother, the way he stood strong and fearless, the way he had always been there, even when I didn’t realize I needed him.
“Aurora?” Annie’s voice pulled me back.
I shook my head, trying to clear my thoughts.
“I….It’s just a lot to think about.
And now, Leonardo is ready to stand up and fight for us, I should be over joyed, but I am feeling somehow inside. What should I do, Annie?”
Annie was silent for a moment before she spoke.
“Aurora, be honest with yourself. Are you feeling this way because of everything that happened today, or is it because of him?”
I swallowed hard, gripping the edge of my bed.
“I don’t know.”
“Yes, you do,” she said softly.
“You just don’t want to admit it.”
I closed my eyes, taking a deep breath.
Could it really be that simple?
That deep down, despite everything, my heart wasn’t completely with Leonardo? That maybe… it had never been?
“But Leonardo loves me,” I whispered.
“He’s willing to fight for us.”
Annie sighed. “Loving someone and being in love with them are two different things, Aurora.
And from what I’m hearing, it sounds like your heart is already somewhere else.”
I opened my mouth to argue, but no words came out. Instead, all I saw in my mind was Alessandro his piercing gaze, his unwavering strength, the way he had always protected me, even when I didn’t realize it.
My chest tightened.
“I don’t know what to do,” I admitted, my voice low.
Annie’s voice was gentle but firm. “Then you need to figure it out before it’s too late.”
Just then, there was a knock at my door.
I turned sharply, my heart beating.
“Aurora?” Leonardo’s voice came through.
“Can I come in?”
I froze, gripping my phone.
Annie sighed.
“This is it, Aurora. You have to decide.
Do you open that door for him… or do you follow where your heart is truly leading you?”
Tears burned in my eyes as I stared at the door, my mind racing.
What do I do?
