Chapter 158: The Pawn Turns Back

Leonardo’s POV
I couldn’t believe it.
I had been used andplayed like a damn pawn by my own uncle.
And because of my stupidity…
Aurora was gone.
I stormed into my room, slamming the door shut behind me. My back hit the wood as I slid down, landing on the floor.
The silence was deafening. It wrapped around me like a punishment I couldn’t escape.
"What the hell was I thinking?" I whispered to no one.
I had been so blinded by pride, by jealousy... by the constant need to prove myself.
And in doing that, I had let the one person I swore to protect slip right through my fingers.
My own emotions had taken control. They filled me with anger and turned me against the people who truly cared about me.
I thought about Uncle Raymond, the man who hurt my family and took something precious from us.
I felt a deep sadness and guilt. I was angry with myself for becoming someone I didn't like.
Someone who hurts others just to prove a point.
I remembered the last time I spoke to Aurora and how disappointed she looked at me.
Her voice kept echoing in my head. I felt lost and regretful
"I'm so sorry, Aurora," I breathed.

If anything happens to her… if I lose her for good…
No. I refused to let it end this way.
I pushed myself off the floor, my jaw tight with resolve. I was done feeling sorry for myself.
It was time to fix this.
*******
I stood in front of the mirror the next morning, staring at myself.
My face looked cold and hard. I didn't recognize the person I saw.
I hadn't slept well, and my mind was filled with thoughts of danger to Aurora.
I had to focus on one thing: tricking others.
I took a deep breath, adjusting the collar of my shirt. My jaw clenched.
If I was going to make this work, I had to convince the pack and those damn spies that Alessandro and I were still bitter enemies.
The last thing they could know was that we were working together. That would ruin everything.
I turned away from the mirror, grabbing my jacket. The tight grip of guilt gnawed at me.
I didn’t want to keep lying, but it was the only way to get to the cloak figure. The one whom I knew was my uncle.
Once they trusted me, I’d figure out how to get closer. And when I had the chance, I’d demand they take me to him.
He was the key. I already had a good idea of where Aurora was, but I needed confirmation.
I needed to see her for myself. To make sure she was still alive.
I ran my fingers through my hair, staring at the door for a moment before walking out.
It wasn’t time for me to break down or show weakness.
Not yet.
I had to keep up the act. And if I had to sacrifice a part of myself to save Aurora, then so be it.
I pulled out my phone and quickly typed a message to Alessandro. I felt a bit nervous, but I knew what I had to do.

"It's time!"

I sent the message, trying to ignore my growing unease. Almost immediately, Alessandro replied.

“I'm almost here. Open the door when I get there, and we'll go from there.”

I looked at the door, feeling the tension build up. My heart was racing, but I tried to calm down.
The next few moments were crucial. I put my phone away and turned towards the door.

I knew what I had to do to help Aurora. A few moments later, I heard footsteps outside.

I took a deep breath, got ready, and reached for the door handle. It was time to act.
As soon as I opened the door, Alessandro didn’t waste any time. He grabbed me by the arm, dragging me outside with surprising force.
Before I could react, he shoved me hard against the wall. The sudden movement caught the attention of a few passing Betas who stopped in their tracks, watching us.
“What the hell is going on?” one of them muttered, but Alessandro wasn’t bothered.
His voice cut through the tension, sharp and full of fury.
“Where the hell is Aurora?!
How could you do that to her, Leonardo?!”
His words stung, even though I knew this was part of the act. But the raw anger in his eyes was real, and it was hard to separate that from the pain I was feeling too.
I couldn’t help but flinch at the accusation, though I knew I had to keep up the charade.
I swallowed hard, trying to mask the unease, but I smirked, locking eyes with Alessandro.
“Aurora belongs to me,” I said, my voice dripping with arrogance.
“And if you think you can take her away from me, Alessandro, you’re wrong.”
His face twisted with rage, and before I could react, Alessandro grabbed me, yanking me toward him. He shoved me back against the wall with such force that I could feel the impact shoot through my spine.
His eyes blazed with anger as he snarled,
"So you had her kidnapped for the throne?"
I leaned back against the cold wall and laughed softly, mocking him.
"What else?
Power, Alessandro.
You know how this game is played. The throne is everything, and she's just a piece to be used."
I could see the anger in his face, his hands clenching and unclenching.
But I didn't care. I had to keep pretending. I nodded slowly, keeping my smirk on my face.
“You wanted her, but now she’s mine.
And you’ll never get her back. Not from me.”
Alessandro’s eyes darkened, and I could see the anger boiling beneath the surface.
He took a step closer, his breath hot against my face.
“You really think I’ll let you get away with this, don’t you?”
I smirked again, trying to keep my composure.
“What are you going to do, Alessandro? You can’t stop me. Not now.
You’re too late.”
His grip tightened, and for a moment, I could feel the heat radiating off of him.
But then, he took a deep breath, as if struggling to keep himself in check.
“You’re wrong,” he said through gritted teeth.
“I won’t let you destroy everything I care about. I’ll find Aurora, and when I do, you’ll pay for what you’ve done.”
The threat hung in the air, thick and heavy, but I didn’t flinch. I just laughed, though it was a bitter sound.
“I’m not scared of you, Alessandro. You’ve already lost.”
For a second, I thought I saw a flicker of hesitation in his eyes. But it was gone so quickly that I almost wondered if I imagined it.
“You’re just blind,” he spat, his voice cold with disdain.
“You think this is about power?
You’re wrong. It’s about love. And I’ll do whatever it takes to bring her back.”
I stared at him, my heart racing beneath the cold facade I was trying so hard to keep up.
"Good luck with that," I muttered, knowing I’d have to play this part until the very end.
I shook off his hands and walked past him, trying to look confident, like I had won.

People around us were whispering and looking at us, probably wondering what had just happened.

But I didn't care. This was all part of my plan. I reached the corner near the door and felt the cool air from outside.

Just as I was about to leave, a sharp voice cut through the air behind me—one I hadn’t heard in days.

“Come with me, Leonardo.”
