Chapter 61: The Darkness that Watches.
Aurora’s POV
As I walked back to the pack’s mansion, the crisp evening air cooled my flushed cheeks, but it did nothing to still the storm raging inside me. My thoughts moved, circling around Annie’s words like vultures on a fresh wound.
“Maybe you should talk to him,” she’d said, her voice calm yet insistent.
Talk to Alessandro? The idea seemed absurd at first. Alessandro, who had spent years brushing me aside or treating me with indifference, had suddenly stood up for me.
Why?
What could possibly have compelled him to defend me in front of my mother, the Luna, and the pack’s betas?
The rhythmic crunch of leaves under my boots filled the silence as I tried to make sense of it all.
My emotions were a tangled mess gratitude, suspicion, confusion. Did he genuinely believe me, or did he see some kind of advantage in siding with me?
The mansion came into view, its large shape was lit up by the moonlight. It felt less like home and more like a fortress a place where power and appearances mattered above all else.
Where truth could be silenced with a well-placed lie, and love was a luxury no one could afford.
My heart ached as I thought of Leonardo. His hesitation, his silence, it had shattered something inside me.
For years, I’d clung to the belief that he would one day choose me, fight for me. But when it mattered most, he hadn’t. And now, I wasn’t sure if I could forgive him for that.
As I entered the garden, everything felt strange. It was too quiet. The crickets weren't chirping, and the leaves weren't rustling.
The silence was eerie, like a thick fog. I looked around, but it was too dark to see anything. Just shadows everywhere.
Then, I thought I heard a faint whisper. "Aurora..." It was soft, like the wind. My heart skipped a beat, and I felt a chill.
I turned around, but nothing was there. The garden was still, like it was mocking me.
Was I imagining things? I tried to tell myself it was nothing. But then, I heard it again.
"Aurora..." This time, it was clearer. Fear gripped me, and I trembled.
"Who's there?"
I called out, trying to sound brave. But there was only silence. It was unnerving. I felt like something was watching me.
I tried to shake off the fear, telling myself it was just the wind. But then, I heard it again.
"Aurora... Aurora..." This time, it was closer. I felt shivers down my spine.
Was I losing my mind?
No, I told myself. I knew what I heard.
"Hello?" I called out again.
"Is….Is anyone there?"
But there was no answer.
I felt a presence, something unseen. My heart was beating, and I was sweating. I tried to walk calmly, but the sense of being watched grew stronger.
Then, I saw something a flash of white in the shadows. Terror surged through me, and I ran.
I ran as fast as I could, the wind howling in my ears. I ran as though the devil himself pursued me.
The mansion was ahead, its lights promising safety.
I didn't dare look back. I just kept running, fear driving me forward.
As I ran to the mansion, my pants got caught on a branch and ripped. But I didn't stop.
I didn't look back. My heart was beating too fast, and I couldn't think clearly. I just knew I had to keep running.
My legs hurt, and the cold air made it hard to breathe.
Then, I tripped and fell. My phone fell out of my hand, but I was too scared to look for it.
Whatever was behind me was getting closer. It was making a loud noise that sent chills down my spine.
I got up and kept running, but my body felt heavy and weak. My breathing was hard, and I couldn't go any faster.
I tried to make myself keep going, but I knew I couldn't outrun it.
I stopped running and turned around. I was shaking all over. My knees felt like they would give out, but I made myself stand up straight.
I looked into the darkness and saw it. A big, shadowy figure was standing there, staring at me with glowing eyes.
It didn't move. It just watched me, waiting. I of its gaze was crushing me, and I could barely breathe. I was too scared to move or scream.
I just stood there, waiting for what would happen next.
The creature started moving. Its heavy footsteps shook the ground, and I felt my heart stop. I wanted to run, but my legs wouldn't move. I was too scared.
"Why can't I move?" I whispered to myself.
"Why can't I scream?"
The creature kept coming, its glowing eyes fixed on me. I felt like I was going to pass out.
"This can't be happening," I thought.
"This is just a nightmare. Wake up, wake up, wake up..."
But I didn't wake up. The creature kept getting closer, its presence suffocating me. My heart was racing, and I could feel my blood pounding in my ears.
And then, just as suddenly as it started, everything stopped. The creature lunged, and everything went black.
I was trapped in darkness, unable to see or hear anything. My mind was spinning, trying to make sense of what was happening.
But there was nothing. Just emptiness. Just silence.
"I'm going to die," I thought. "I'm going to die, and no one will ever find me."
And then, there was nothing.
But then, I heard something. A faint whispering in my ear. It was soft and raspy, and it sent shivers down my spine.
"Aurora..." it whispered. "Aurora, wake up..."
I tried to open my eyes, but they felt heavy, like they were stuck together. I tried to move, but my body felt like lead.
"Aurora, please..." the voice whispered again.
"Wake up, Aurora..."
Suddenly, my eyes flew open, and I was back in the garden, lying on the cold ground but the creature was nowhere to be seen….
