Chapter 33: Dangerous Devotion.

Aurora's POV

I returned to my room and slammed the door shut, dropping my bag to the floor in frustration.

Leonardo and I had never had a moment's peace. Every time we tried to be together, something - or someone - always got in the way. And it was all Alessandro's fault.

"Why does he hate me so much?" I muttered to myself, punching my bed repeatedly in anger.

I couldn't understand why Alessandro had such a vendetta against me. I had done nothing to him, yet he seemed determined to ruin my life.

I flopped down on my bed, feeling defeated. I was tired of always looking over my shoulder, waiting for Alessandro's next move. I was tired of being the target of his hatred.

Just as I was starting to calm down, I heard my phone buzzing nonstop.

Buzz!

Buzz!!

Buzz!!!

I sighed and picked it up, knowing exactly who it was. Annie was calling, and I knew she wanted all the juicy details about what had just happened. I answered, trying to sound calmer than I felt.

"Hey, girl! How did it go?" Annie's voice was bubbly and enthusiastic, a stark contrast to my current mood.

“Um…well…we didn’t actually talk….we kinda…almost had sex again…”

“Aurora!

You bad girl!” Annie said, her voice teasing.

“So what happened next? Did you guys talk later?”

I shook my head, even though I knew she couldn’t see me.

“No….we couldn’t because we didn’t finish having sex, Annie. Leonardo’s ex showed up and messed everything up.”

Annie gasped. “His ex? What do you mean? I thought he was all about you now.”

I sighed, feeling frustrated. “He is, but his ex, Lena, she’s not willing to let him go.

She showed up and caused a scene, and I knew it was Alessandro who sent her there.

He must have sent someone to spy on us and then gave Lena our hotel room number so she could interrupt us.”

“But the thing is, what is his game?” Annie asked.

I sighed deeply, running a hand through my long hair.

“I don’t know, Annie.

That’s what’s driving me crazy. What does he have to gain from all of this?

He’s already got the pack’s respect and loyalty. Why is he so determined to ruin my relationship with Leonardo?”

Annie thought for a moment. “Maybe it’s not just about your relationship. Maybe it’s about Leonardo himself.

Maybe Alessandro sees him as a threat to his power or something.”

I frowned, considering Annie’s words. “But Leonardo’s not even interested in being alpha. He’s happy to just support his father and the pack.”

Annie sighed. “I know, but Alessandro might not see it that way. He might think that Leonardo is a threat, even if he’s not. And he’s willing to do whatever it takes to eliminate that threat.”

I shook my head, feeling a sense of unease. “This is getting more and more complicated by the minute.”

Just then I heard a soft knock on my door.

"Um...Annie...let me call you back, alright?" I said, already knowing she would understand.

"Okay, girl, be careful. Call me back soon," Annie replied before hanging up.

I took a deep breath, wondering who could be visiting me at this hour. I cautiously made my way to the door and peered through the peephole.

My heart skipped a beat as I saw Leonardo standing in the hallway, looking concerned.

I opened the door, trying to compose myself. "Hey...what's up?" I asked, trying to sound casual despite the turmoil inside me.

Leonardo's eyes scanned my face, his expression softening. "I saw your light on and wanted to check on you.

"Come in," I said, stepping aside to let him in.

Leonardo walked in, his eyes never leaving mine. "I couldn't stop thinking about what happened earlier," he said, his voice low and husky.

"I'm so sorry about Lena. I had no idea she would show up like that."

I didn’t say anything and just stood there in silence.

“Please, Aurora, say something to me.”

I shook my head.

“There’s nothing to say, Leonardo. Your ex-mate is still in love with you and is not ready to let you go, and your brother wants to split us apart because he sees me as a threat to god knows what.”

Leonardo took a step closer, his eyes filled with concern.

"Aurora, don't say that. Lena and I are done, and I'm with you now. And as for Alessandro...I'll handle him. I won't let him come between us."

I sighed, feeling different emotions at the same time.

"It's not just about Lena or Alessandro, Leonardo. It's about the whole situation.

What if your father finds out about us…. what do you think would happen?”

Leonardo's expression turned serious, and he pulled me closer. "I know, Aurora. I've thought about that too.

But I can't help how I feel. I love you, and I'm not going to let my father or anyone else come between us."

I felt a surge of love and fear at the same time. "But what if he disowns you? Or worse, what if he hurts you?"

Leonardo's jaw clenched. "I'm willing to take that risk. I'd rather be with you and face whatever consequences come our way than live without you."

I searched his eyes, seeing the determination and love there. I knew he meant it.

"But what about the pack?" I asked, my voice low. "They'll never accept me as your mate.

I'm your step sister and my mother is married to your father.”

Leonardo's face softened, and he stroked my hair.

"We'll figure it out, Aurora. We'll find a way to make it work. I promise. And as for the pack, I don't care what they think. I care about you, and I know that we're meant to be together."

I got emotional as I looked at Leonardo. I knew that he was willing to risk everything for me, and that thought filled me with love and gratitude.

"But what about your father?" I asked again, my voice shaking slightly.

"He's the alpha, Leonardo. He has the power to destroy us."

Leonardo's expression turned fierce. "I won't let him hurt you, Aurora. I'll protect you with my life.

And as for his power, I'm not afraid of him. I'm willing to challenge him if that's what it takes to be with you."

His hand brushed over my cheek, back into the my hair.

“I will never let anyone come in between us, Aurora.”

A tear fell down my face and landed on his thumb. He led me to the bed and sat me on his lap, and I didn't resist.

“Just rest.” he murmured.

“I’m not going anywhere.”

I pressed my face into his shoulder. Here was comfort and strength and above all the solidity no one had ever offered me, not even my own mother. He asked no questions, so neither would I again.

Instead I curled into him, lifted my mouth to his.

“Touch me. Please. I need to feel.”

Gently, so gently, he ran his hands over me. He could give me the comfort of his body, take his own in mine.

Trembling, I reached for him, my lips parting under his and going warm.

Just as our lips touched—

CRASH!!!

A loud noise came from downstairs.

“What was that?” I asked, pulling away from Leonardo.
