Chapter 155: A Family's Hidden Shame

Alessandro’s POV
We returned to the pack house and went straight to Alpha John’s hospital room.
He was sitting up on the bed, looking slightly pale but alert, speaking in low tones with the pack healer beside him.
The moment we entered, the healer turned to us with a small nod, then quietly excused himself, giving us space.
Father looked up, his face expressionless as his eyes searched over each of us.
“I see you’ve all returned together,” he said calmly.
“Does that mean you’ve found something?”
I stepped forward, unable to hide the frustration and urgency in my voice.

“No, we didn’t find her. We found a wrecked apartment, a false lead, and more questions than answers.”
Father’s expression didn’t change, but I saw the flicker in his eyes.

“Aurora’s been taken,” I added.
He sighed, his hands folding in his lap. “I feared this would happen…”
That only made my blood boil hotter.

“Then tell us the truth. Who poisoned you, Father? Because someone is behind all of this and I think you know who it is.”
There was silence in the room. Heavy. Thick. Tense.
Leonardo stepped forward too, more quietly.

“Please… if you know anything, now’s the time to say it. Aurora’s life is at stake,” Leonardo said, his voice strained with urgency.
Father shook his head slowly.
“I didn’t see the person,” he replied, his voice low but firm.
I clenched my fists.
“Why are you trying so hard to protect someone when the safety of the entire pack is at risk?”
His eyes snapped up to mine, sudden fire in them.

“No!
You’re wrong,” he snapped.
“You don’t care about the pack.
You just want to find out who’s behind this because of that damn girl!”
My chest burned with rage.

I stepped forward, eyes locked on him.

“Aurora isn’t some damn girl, Father,” I said through gritted teeth.

“She is the woman I would do anything for. She’s the best thing that’s ever happened to me.
So I’m asking you, no, I’m demanding tell me right now… who the hell poisoned you?”
My words echoed in the room, louder than I expected. The air went still.
Father stared at me in shock, clearly taken aback. He wasn’t used to this version of me.
I wasn’t the silent, obedient son anymore. Not the one who bowed his head and followed every command without question.
“You’ve changed, Alessandro…” he said slowly, almost to himself.
“I’m surprised.”
I didn’t blink. “Yeah. I have. And it’s about time you started taking me seriously.”
Father sighed deeply, his shoulders dropping with the weight of something he’d been carrying for too long. He looked up at me, his eyes tired.
“I thought that if I didn’t expose him to the pack, he would stop what he was doing.
I thought keeping his name hidden would protect everyone… but after Leonardo started rebelling for the throne… I realized his plans were deeper than I thought.”
I frowned, confusion knitting my brows. “What are you talking about? Who?”
He looked right at me. “Your uncle.”
My heart skipped a beat. My jaw tightened.
“Uncle Raymond?”
Shock rippled through all of us.
“But… Uncle Raymond was banished from the pack when we were teenagers,” I said, trying to make sense of it.
Father nodded slowly. “Yes. I banished him. He was creating division, chaos… He wanted power wanted to take the pack from within.
I couldn’t allow that, so I made a decision that tore this family apart. I banished him to save the rest of us.”
Leonardo scoffed beside me, his voice bitter.

“I never liked Uncle Raymond. Not after he… slept with Lena.”
He shook his head, disgust flashing in his eyes.

“After that, I couldn’t look at her the same way again.”
I turned my gaze back to our father. “So why would Uncle Raymond want to poison you now?
After all these years?”
Alpha John’s expression darkened, his voice quiet when he finally spoke.
“Because he believes I stole everything from him. The pack… and your mother.”
There was a heavy silence before we all said in unison,
“Our mother?!”
Alpha John nodded solemnly.
“Before she became my mate… your mother was first bonded to your uncle.
They were fated mates. But something changed. Something broke that bond, and she chose me instead.”
Rafael's eyes widened, a gasp escaping him.

“Oh my god…”
The room went still.
None of us could speak. The air felt thick with years of buried secrets.
Alpha John leaned back slightly, his voice low but heavy with the weight of old wounds.

“When we were young, our father always showed me more favor than Raymond. Everyone knew it.
He made it clear that I would be his successor, the next Alpha. But I didn’t ask for it I didn’t even want it at first.
I loved my brother. I never wanted anything to come between us.”
He paused for a moment, his eyes distant.

“But Father’s favoritism changed everything… and then your mother came into our lives.”
We all leaned in, sensing this was the heart of it.
“She was a new Beta in the pack,” he continued. “Strong, intelligent… beautiful.
Raymond fell for her instantly. From the moment he laid eyes on her, he believed she was his mate, and for a time… she believed it too.”
He shook his head slowly.

“I, on the other hand, didn’t like her at first. I was too busy with the affairs of the pack.
While Raymond and she spent time together, I kept my distance. But everything shifted when Father publicly announced that I would be the next Alpha.”
His jaw clenched at the memory.

“Raymond changed. He started acting out scheming, turning others against me.
And his relationship with your mother started falling apart. She was confused, torn, and hurt.
Eventually, she began to confide in me… and one thing led to another—”
“You fell in love with her and married her,” Leonardo said, finishing the sentence for him, his tone low but certain.
Alpha John nodded. “Yes. That’s exactly what happened.”
He looked at us, a storm of old guilt and lingering pain in his eyes.
“When Raymond realized she had chosen me… that her bond with him had broken… he couldn’t take it.
He blamed her. He blamed me. He became violent. Your mother was terrified of what he’d become.
So she ended the bond completely… and came to me willingly.”
His voice hardened, grief laced with bitterness.
“That broke him. He felt betrayed by the two people he trusted most.
That was the moment he changed forever. From that day, he swore revenge.”
Silence fell again, heavier than before.
I felt the pieces click into place in my mind the hatred, the poison, the manipulation.
It was all rooted in betrayal… and obsession.
