Chapter 50: The Monster in the Dark.

Aurora’s POV

After my conversation with Rafael, I felt it was better I returned to my room to rest. I had called and sent text to Leonardo, but he didn’t reply and I had gone to look for him in his room and his father’s office, but he was no where to be found.
After entering my room, I leaned against the closed door, letting out a sigh. The weight of the day clung to me, heavier than ever.
What was happening with Leonardo? Why was he avoiding me? His absence gnawed at my heart, filling me with unease and a creeping sense of rejection.
Pushing the thoughts aside, I headed for the bathroom. The warm water wash over me was meant to soothe, but it only seemed to amplify my worries.
My mind wandered to the moments we’d shared, to the look in his eyes when he was with me. There had been nothing but love there or so I thought.
Had I misread him? Had something happened to change everything?
Stepping out of the shower, I wrapped myself in a towel and stared at my reflection in the foggy mirror.
I could see the uncertainty in my own eyes, the desperation to hold on to something that felt like it was slipping away.
“No,” I muttered to myself, gripping the edges of the sink. “I won’t let this go without a fight. I need answers.”
I quickly dressed in something comfortable and settled onto my bed, my phone in hand.
I stared at the screen, my fingers hovering over Leonardo’s name. My thumb tapped the call button before I could overthink it, and I pressed the phone to my ear, holding my breath.
The ringing dragged on, each unanswered chime like a stab to my heart. When it went to voicemail, I dropped the phone onto the bed with a frustrated groan.
Tomorrow. Tomorrow I would find him, no matter what it took. We needed to talk. This wasn’t just about us anymore; it was about the connection we shared, the bond we couldn’t ignore.
As I lay back, trying to find some semblance of peace, a sudden knock at my door startled me. My heart leaped, hope igniting for a fleeting moment. Was it him?
“Who is it?” I called out, my voice steady despite the anticipation swelling in my chest.
“It’s Marcus,” came the reply. Relief and confusion mixed as I crossed the room to open the door.
He stood there, his expression unreadable, and I felt a sense of unease creep over me.
“Um, Marcus, what can I do for you?” I asked cautiously, wondering what he could possibly want. Marcus was Alessandro’s shadow, always handling pack matters on his behalf. So what was he doing at my door this late at night?
“May I come in? I have something to discuss with you,” he said, his tone steady, but his demeanor made me hesitate. I didn’t know him well, and his presence didn’t feel reassuring.
“It’s about Leonardo.”
At the mention of Leonardo’s name, my apprehension wavered. I stepped aside and gestured for him to enter, though my instincts screamed for me to remain on guard.
He walked in, and I softly closed the door behind him. He stood in the middle of the room, his eyes scanning the space with what felt like too much interest, like he was sizing it up or me.
“Uh… so what is it you want to discuss about Leonardo?” I asked, trying to sound casual.
His presence set me on edge, and a small part of me wondered if Alessandro had sent him to interfere in my already fragile relationship with Leonardo.
He turned to face me, his expression still hard to read, though there was something unsettling about the way his gaze stayed on me.
“Leonardo isn’t around,” he finally said. “He went out this afternoon. I guess he’s dealing with a lot since he came back yesterday morning.”
His words didn’t give me any answers, only added to my confusion. “Do you know where he went?” I asked, my focus solely on finding Leonardo.
Marcus hesitated for a moment, then shrugged. “Leonardo keeps too many secrets.
When he’s overwhelmed, he disappears to clear his head. He’ll return once he’s made up his mind.”
I barely registered his words; all I could think about was where Leonardo might be.
But then, Marcus’s actions snapped me out of my thoughts.
He walked to the door and locked it.
A chill ran through me. “Uh… what are you doing?” I asked, my voice sharper than I intended.
“Why did you lock the door?”
He turned to face me, a slow, wicked smile spreading across his lips. The look in his eyes sent alarm bells ringing in my head.
“To have some fun with you, of course,” he said, his tone dripping with bad intentions.
“I mean… you don’t expect me to keep watching you prance around in those little shorts and tops without wanting a taste, do you?
You give it freely to him, so why not me too?”
His words hit me like a slap, leaving me frozen for a split second. My stomach churned as he began walking toward me, his steps slow and deliberate. I instinctively backed away, my mind racing for a way to escape.
“Stay back, Marcus,” I warned, trying to keep my voice firm despite the panic rising in my chest.
“You have no right to speak to me like that let alone touch me.”
He chuckled darkly, ignoring my words.
“Oh, come on, Aurora. Don’t act so innocent.
You’re already part of the pack, aren’t you? This is just part of the fun.”
I kept backing up, my heart beating. My eyes looked around the room, searching for something, anything that could help me.
My desk was too far, and the lamp on the nightstand wasn’t within reach.
When my back hit the wall, I knew I was running out of time. He was closing the distance, his lustful gaze making my skin crawl.
Then, without thinking, I grabbed the edge of the chair next to me and swung it toward him.
“I said stay back!” I shouted, my voice trembling but defiant.
The chair missed him by inches, but it gave me just enough time to dart toward the door.
I fumbled with the lock, my hands shaking as I heard him curse behind me.
“You f*cking B*tch!”
Before I could open it, he grabbed my arm and yanked me backward.
“You think you can get away from me?” he growled, his grip tight enough to bruise.
“Let go of me! Let go of me!!” I screamed, as he pushed me close to the bed. Fear surged through me, but so did adrenaline.
I twisted my arm, trying to break free, and slammed my elbow into his side. He grunted in pain, his hold loosening just enough for me to slip away.
I grabbed the lamp from the nightstand and swung it with all my strength. The sound of glass shattering filled the room as it struck his shoulder, sending him staggering back.
With shaking hands, I unlocked the door and bolted out into the hallway, screaming for help.
“Help!
