Chapter 210: Between Life and Death
                    Alessandro’ POV
“AURORA!”
That was the loudest and most powerful scream I ever made, it flew out of my throat.
There were gasps everywhere around me. The people vanished from my sight, faces, voices, shadows none of it mattered.
Her was all I saw.
She had fallen down without support, blood was coming out from her dress, and her flesh was too pale. My heart stopped.
“No, no, no, no!”
My hands shook so badly as I brought her to my chest. “Be there, Aurora, please do not let your eyes close.
Do not even think to leave me!”
Her eyelids twitching feebly, her lips scarcely moving as she attempted to say something.
“Don’t speak,” I begged, my voice breaking. “Save your strength.
I’ve got you, I swear I’ve got you.”
Even though I used my hand to cover the wound, the wound still kept bleeding.
My gut turned, scary feeling was itching at my throat.
Not her.
Not her.
I’d rather die than let it be her.
“Somebody call the healer!”
I shouted extremely loud, my voice tearing and I was desperate to find help.
She kept the smile on her face in the middle of the pain, her trembling fingers as they grazed my cheek.
The tears that came from my eyes did not wait until I could stop them before they slid down.
“Don’t you dare leave me.”
I whispered hoarsely, “I cannot live without you,
You are mine, you have always been mine. I won’t allow anyone to take you away from me.”
I held her tighter as my world turned upside down in my arms.
Her body was limp against me, her blood soaking through my shirt, searing my skin like fire.
I didn’t waste another second. I carried her and rushed through the halls, my heart hammering so loud it drowned out everything else.
“Hold on, Aurora!”
I shouted, not caring who heard me.
“Don’t you dare give up on me!”
When we got to the pack’s infirmary, nurses gasped and immediately sprang into action.
“Quick, prepare the table!” one of them yelled.
Another tried to pry her out of my arms.
“No—”
I snarled, clutching her tighter.
“I won’t let her go!”
“Alessandro, if you want her to live, let us work!” the head nurse snapped.
My chest heaved, my hands shaking violently, but finally I forced myself to release her.
The moment her body left my arms, a hollow emptiness swallowed me whole.
I staggered back as they laid her down and began working furiously, the sound of ripping cloth, clinking metal, and hurried instructions filling the room.
“Wait outside!” one of the nurses ordered sharply.
I stood frozen, refusing.
“Alessandro, please!” another begged.
“We can’t concentrate if you’re in here.”
My throat closed up, but I nodded, stumbling out of the room.
When the doors shut, I looked down and saw it my hands, my shirt, everything drenched in blood.
Her blood.
My mate’s blood.
I felt like my soul was tearing apart.
The sound of hurried footsteps broke through my haze. Rafael, Gabriel, Alpha Tony, and Annie rushed in, all with alarmed expressions.
“How is she?” Rafael asked, breathless.
I shook my head, my voice cracking.
“I… I don’t know…”
Gabriel gripped my shoulder.
“Brother—”
“I was holding her… and then… she just fainted in my arms,”
I rasped, dragging a trembling hand through my hair.
“It should have been me, not her.”
Alpha Tony’s face was pale, his eyes clouded with guilt. Annie was already crying, whispering prayers under her breath.
We all stood there, helpless, waiting for the door to open…
The door to the infirmary creaked open. The pack healer stepped out, his face grim, his hands still stained with Aurora’s blood.
My heart dropped.
“Tell me she’s fine!” I demanded, my voice shaking.
The healer lowered his gaze.
“Alpha Alessandro… she’s alive, but her condition is critical.
She slipped into a coma.”
The world tilted. A ringing filled my ears. I couldn’t breathe.
“Coma?”
I rasped.
“No… no, no, no…”
Rafael caught my arm.
“Brother, wait—”
But I tore away, storming down the hall like a man possessed. My legs carried me straight to the dungeon before I even realized what I was doing.
“Open it,”
I barked at the guard posted at Lena’s cell.
The guard flinched.
“Alpha… Alpha John said—”
“OPEN IT!”
I roared, my eyes blazing with rage.
The guard froze, then quickly obeyed, fumbling with the keys. The iron door screeched open.
The instant it did, I lunged inside, my hand clamping around Lena’s throat. I slammed her back against the stone wall.
She gasped, clawing at my grip.
“A—Alessandro—!”
“You tried to kill her!”
I snarled, squeezing harder.
“You dared to stab my mate!”
Her face turned red, her eyes bulging.
“I… I didn’t mean—”
“LIAR!”
I roared, my voice echoing through the dungeon.
“I should end you here and now!”
“Alessandro, stop!”
Leonardo’s voice thundered behind me. Strong hands pulled at my arm, trying to pry me off.
“Let go of me, Leonardo!”
I growled, my grip tightening on Lena’s throat.
“Don’t do this,” he gritted, pulling harder.
“If you kill her, you’ll give Maverick the excuse he’s waiting for to start a war.
Don’t give him that power!”
For a moment, all I saw was red. My body shook with the urge to crush the life out of her.
But slowly, my hand loosened. Lena collapsed to the ground, coughing and gasping for breath.
I leaned close, my voice a low, dangerous growl.
“Pray that Aurora survives, Lena. Because if she doesn’t… I swear to the Moon Goddess, I’ll come back here.
And next time, I won’t stop.”
I straightened, turned on my heel, and stormed out of the dungeon.
When I returned to the infirmary, I stopped at the window. My heart shattered at the sight.
Aurora lay motionless, pale, hooked up to tubes and herbs, her chest barely rising.
I pushed inside, my fists clenched.
“Why isn’t she healing?” I demanded, grabbing the healer by his robes.
“She’s a wolf, she should’ve started healing already!”
The healer looked stricken.
“It’s the knife, Alpha.
The blade was laced with poison. Strong, ancient poison. It slows regeneration.
Her body is fighting, but…”
“But what?” I barked.
“But all we can do is pray her wolf rises to heal her,” the healer said softly.
“If her wolf doesn’t surface, I fear…” His words trailed off, but the meaning crushed me.
I froze.
“Her… wolf?” I whispered.
“She’s never… she’s never even spoken of her wolf…”
A heavy silence filled the room.
Alpha Tony stepped forward, placing a hand on my shoulder. His voice was low but firm.
“Then it’s time we pray to the Goddess. If Aurora’s wolf doesn’t awaken now, she may not survive this night.”
My knees almost gave out. I turned back to the glass, staring at the only woman who ever mattered.
“Aurora… please,” I whispered.
“Come back to me.”
