Chapter 147: A Moment Together

Aurora’s POV
After my call with Alessandro, I placed my phone gently on the bedside table, my mind filled with everything he’d just told me.
The pack has been in chaos ever since Alpha John was poisoned and now, Leonardo’s sudden shift in behavior, his hunger for the title of Alpha… it was all unraveling too quickly.
None of it felt right.
I wrapped my arms around my knees, pulling them close to my chest as I sat on the edge of the bed.
I couldn’t shake the look in Alessandro’s eyes when he spoke. He was trying to stay strong, trying to protect everyone but I could feel the weight on him.
And it scared me.
Knock.
Knock.
Knock.
The door creaked open slowly, and Annie stepped in holding a glass of juice in her hand.
“Hey, you.
I thought you might need this,” she said gently, walking over and handing the cup to me.
I gave her a faint smile and took it, the cold glass grounding me just a little.
“Thanks,” I murmured, wrapping both hands around it.
Annie sat beside me on the bed, her face soft but concerned.
“You’ve been quiet ever since you got off the phone with Alessandro.
Want to talk about it?”
I sighed, staring down at the juice without drinking it.
“Everything’s falling apart, Annie.

The pack, Alessandro and Leonardo…”
She sighed heavily and plopped down beside me.
“Yeah… I know, right?
But seriously, what is Leonardo’s deal, huh?
Why can’t he just get the message that you’ve moved on and he messed up?”
I let out a shaky breath, gripping the juice a little tighter.
“It’s like he’s stuck in the past. Acting like I still belong to him just because we had history.
But I’m not the same girl I used to be. And he’s not the same either.”
Annie scoffed, crossing her arms.
“He had his chance, Aurora. And he threw it away. You gave him everything, and when he chose duty over you, that was the end of it.
He doesn’t get to come back now just because he doesn’t like seeing you happy with someone else.”
I nodded slowly, her words echoing what I’d been trying to remind myself.
But still, there was that deep, unsettling weight in my chest.

“But there was something he said… that’s been bothering me.”
Annie turned her head, a confused frown pulling at her brows.
“And what’s that?”
I sighed, my fingers tightening around the glass in my hands. “He said… that if he became the Alpha of the pack, would I come back to him?”
Annie blinked, clearly caught off guard.
“Wait—what?”
I gave a small, bitter laugh that held no humor.
“Yeah. Like becoming Alpha would suddenly erase everything he put me through… like power could fix what he broke.”
Annie shook her head, her expression turning sharp.
“That’s not love, Aurora. That’s control. Manipulation. And it’s not okay.”
“I know,”
I whispered, the knot in my stomach twisting tighter.
“It just… made me feel like I’m being dragged into some twisted game.
Like I’m not even a person in all this just something to be won.”
Annie scooted closer, her voice soft but firm.
“You’re not a prize. And you’re sure as hell not going back to someone who only sees you that way.
You have Alessandro now. Someone who actually fights for you, not over you.”
I glanced down, heart heavy.
“I just want all of this to be over so that I can be with him, Annie. I miss him.
I really miss him.”
Annie gave me a small, reassuring smile and placed a comforting hand on my knee.
“Don’t worry,” she said softly, “everything will soon be alright.
And Alessandro? He’ll come knocking on that door to get you.
You’ll see.”
As if on cue—
Knock. Knock. Knock.
Our heads turned toward the door at the same time.
Annie raised an eyebrow.
“Okay… that was freaky.”
My heart skipped.
“Do you think—?”
“I don’t know,” she whispered, already standing up.
“But I’m about to find out.”
I held my breath as Annie walked to the door. The feeling of hope and fear were in my chest.

Annie stepped out into the hallway and closed the door behind her, leaving me alone.

I sat up straight, holding the bed tightly, my heart beating fast. Time passed slowly.

I couldn't hear anything. I felt nervous.

"Annie, who is it?"

I called out, trying to sound calm. There was no answer. My heart beat faster.

I stood up slowly and walked closer to the door, unsure if I was more scared of who was on the other side or the silence.
My bedroom door opened, and he was standing there.

"Alessandro?"

I whispered, hardly believing my eyes. He smiled weakly.

"Hey..." he said softly.

That's all it took. I couldn't hold back anymore. All my fears and worries came flooding back.

I ran into his arms, holding him tightly like I was scared he'd disappear again.

"I missed you so much," I whispered into his chest, my voice shaking.

He hugged me back, his arms warm and steady, making me feel safe again.
He held me close, his hand gently running down my back as if trying to ease away all the tension I’d been carrying.
“I missed you too,” he said softly, his voice muffled in my hair.
“More than you know.”
I pulled back just enough to look up at him, my hands still gripping his shirt.
His eyes looked tired, weighed down by stress and responsibility but there was softness there, too.
That same softness I’d fallen for.
“You shouldn’t be here,” I whispered, even though every part of me was grateful he came.
“I know,” he replied.
“But I needed to see you. Even if it’s just for a moment.
After everything today… I just needed this.”
A small tear escaped down my cheek. He caught it with his thumb before it could fall too far.
“I hate what this is doing to you,” I said.
“To all of us.”
He nodded.
“It’s tearing everything apart. And it’s only going to get worse before it gets better.”
I took a deep breath.

"I just want this to be over so we can be together more."

He smiled gently and brushed a strand of hair from my face.

"Me too."

His voice was barely loud enough to hear, but it was full of longing.

I looked into his eyes, and my heart hurt with all the feelings I had for him.

"Let's go somewhere we can be alone, Alessandro.

I want to be with you tonight."

His face changed.

First surprised, then softer and more intense. He didn't say anything right away, but I felt his hand squeeze mine gently.

"Are you sure?" he asked quietly.

I nodded.

"Yes.

I don't care about anything else right now.

I just want you."
He breathed out slowly, like he'd been holding his breath, and leaned his forehead against mine.

"Then let's go."
