Chapter 62: The Creature in the Garden.
Aurora’s POV
“No… no… please,” I cried softly, the words escaping my lips as I slowly opened my eyes.
I felt heavy and weak. My head hurt, and I struggled to sit up.
“Aurora, are you okay?”
The familiar voice startled me, and I turned my head to see Leonardo sitting at my bedside, his facw filled with concern.
“Ugh… what happened?”I asked, rubbing my temple, which hurt.
“You were almost killed by something,” he said, his voice grave but gentle.
“But someone got there just in time to save you, and we brought you to the pack’s infirmary to heal.
How are you feeling?”
His words sent a shock wavel down my spine as the memories came rushing back. The garden, the chase, the creature. It wasn’t a nightmare it was real.
I froze, my breath catching in my throat as the realization hit me. I had been moments away from death, hunted by a creature that roamed the pack at night.
“It… it wasn’t a dream,” I whispered, more to myself than to him.
My heart raced as fragments of the horrifying experience played in my mind.
“I was almost killed.”
Leonardo nodded seriously, looking straight at me.
“But you’re safe now, Aurora. You’re safe.”
Safe? That was a lie. The creature was still out there, hiding in the dark.
“That creature…” I whispered, my voice shaking as I remembered what happened.
“What is it? What did it want with me? And how… how did it know my name?”
Leonardo’s eyes widened in shock. “What? The creature called your name?”
I nodded, my hands shaking slightly. “Yes, it called my name several times before it revealed itself in the darkness.
Its eyes… they were white… and so scary, Leonardo. I thought I was going to die.”
Leonardo leaned forward, grabbing my hands in his. His grip was tight and comforting.
“That would never happen, Aurora,” he said, his voice firm with confidence.
“You’re safe now. And we will find that thing and kill it.”
“But…” I hesitated, my voice barely audible. “What kind of creature is it? And how did it know my name?”
He shook his head, irritation crossed his face. “I don’t know… but we’ll find out.
I swear to you, Aurora. We’ve already sent a search party into the garden. Hopefully, they’ll uncover something that can give us answers.”
His words were firm, but I could sense the uncertainty beneath them. Still, his determination brought a flicker of comfort to my fear-stricken heart.
Leonardo squeezed my hands again, his gaze locked on mine. “I don’t have all the answers right now,” he admitted.
“But I promise you this, we will get to the bottom of this. I won’t let anything harm you.”
I nodded slowly, his words grounding me just enough to push back the overwhelming dread.
But deep down, I couldn’t shake the feeling that whatever that creature was, it wasn’t done with me yet.
Just then, a beta entered the infirmary and walked straight to where Leonardo was seated by my bedside.
He bent down and whispered something into Leonardo's ear.
Leonardo nodded at the beta, dismissing him with a wave. The beta nodded in response and left the infirmary without another word.
Curiosity chewed at me, and I couldn’t help but ask, “What did he say?”
Leonardo hesitated for a moment before replying,
“Um… it’s nothing. Just that my presence is needed for something. I have to go, but I’ll be right back, okay?”
I nodded slowly, though the unease in his expression didn’t escape me.
He stood up, giving my hand a final reassuring squeeze before walking out of the infirmary, leaving me alone with my disturbing thoughts.
What the hell was that thing? And why did it want to kill me? I asked myself for the hundredth time, my mind racing with no answers.
The sudden swing of the infirmary’s entrance door startled me, and I instinctively froze, fear flashing through me. My breath caught until I saw who it was.
“Phew…” I exhaled in relief. “It’s just you.”
Rafael and Gabriel stepped inside, their faces filled with concern.
“Hey… are you alright, Aurora?”
Gabriel asked, his voice gentle as he walked toward me.
He sat down at the end of my bed, his gaze searching mine. “We heard what happened and came to help with the search in the garden.”
I shook my head, my voice barely firm. “No, I am not okay.
That creature… that thing almost killed me.”
Rafael nodded seriously.
“Yeah… but thank God Alessandro got there in time to save you.”
I blinked, my mind delaying at his words.
“What did you just say?” I asked, my voice rising in disbelief.
“Who saved me?”
“Alessandro,” Rafael repeated, looking at me as though it was obvious.
I stared at him, dumbfounded. Alessandro?
The very same Alessandro who had always treated me with cold indifference?
My heart pounded as confusion and disbelief warred within me.
“Alessandro…” I echoed softly, trying to process what I had just heard.
“Are you sure?”
Rafael nodded firmly. “Yes, Aurora. He was the one who saved you at the garden, Aurora and carried you out of the garden.
If it weren’t for him, who knows what could’ve happened?”
My mind stumbled Of all people, why Alessandro? And why did he save me again?
I couldn’t wrap my head around it. Alessandro had always been distant, cold even.
He barely acknowledged my existence unless he absolutely had to. And now, Rafael was telling me he’d saved my life?
“That doesn’t make any sense,” I murmured, more to myself than to them.
Gabriel leaned forward, his brows furrowed.
“What doesn’t make sense, Aurora?”
“Alessandro,” I said, shaking my head. “He’s never been… kind to me. Why would he go out of his way to save me? It doesn’t add up.”
Gabriel exchanged a glance with Rafael, as if trying to assess his reaction. Rafael crossed his arms, leaning back against the wall.
“Maybe he’s not as bad as you think,” Rafael said. “People surprise you sometimes.”
I let out a dry laugh, though there was no humor in it.
“Surprise?
That’s an understatement. This is Alessandro we’re talking about. He’s never been anything but distant. I can’t believe he’d risk himself for me.”
Gabriel’s voice softened, his usual teasing tone replaced with something more serious.
“Whatever his reasons, Aurora, he did save you. And maybe it’s worth finding out why.”
My stomach stirred at the thought. Did I even want to know why?
A part of me was grateful. How could I not be? but another part of me was wary.
Alessandro’s sudden act of heroism didn’t align with the person I thought I knew.
“I don’t know,” I admitted, rubbing my head as it started to hurt with a dull pain.
“I don’t know what to think anymore.”
Gabriel reached out, placing a comforting hand on my shoulder. “You don’t have to figure it all out now. Just focus on resting, okay?”
I nodded, though my mind was far from resting.
Rafael cleared his throat. “Look, we’ll keep helping with the search. If we find anything about that creature, you’ll be the first to know.”
“Thanks,” I said softly, my voice barely audible.
The two of them stayed for a little while longer, chatting about unimportant things to distract me.
But their efforts couldn’t pull my thoughts away from Alessandro and that haunting, terrifying encounter in the garden.
As they left, I lay back on the infirmary bed, staring at the ceiling. The room was quiet again, but my mind was loud with questions.
Why had Alessandro saved me again? What was that creature, and why did it know my name?
