Chapter 185
**Megan**
Everything seems to happen in slow motion. David uses zip ties to bind Jonathon. The police come and take him away. The paramedics kneel in front of me, they’re talking to me, but I’m not sure what they’re saying. Brett seems to answer for me.
I look at him as he touches my head, then my nose and lastly my neck and hands. I see the love in his eyes for me, the way he used to look at me when I was younger. But I can see it’s laced with something else. Guilt.
“Dad,” I say quietly, and it comes out like a whisper. He looks away from my hands to my face. Gently he picks me up and carries me through the house and down the stairs. It’s then I see Logan being carried out on a stretcher. My eyes widen, and I struggle out of Brett’s arms. “Logan,” I cry.
His eyes open briefly before closing again. Brett lets me down and helps me get to Logan before he’s in the ambulance. I move my hands over his jaw as Logan's eyes open.
“Hey,” he says.
“Hey,” and I feel the tears choking me.
“You’re ok,”
“You’re not,” I cry.
“I am, just a bit of a concussion, I’ll be ok,” he says with his eyes closed. “Trust me,” he says.
“Look what happens when I trust you,” I say, and he chuckles.
“Yeah, but this time really trust me,” he says with his sexy smile that I’m sure was created to make any girl fall to his feet. I can’t help but smile at him.
The paramedics tell me they need to get him to hospital and wheel him onto the ambulance, the paramedics that were looking after me come over and pull me away from him to their ambulance.

**Brett**
Megan had gone into shock when we got to the hospital. They gave her something, and it seemed to have calmed her down. She ended up falling asleep; I think more from exhaustion. The police came to question her pretty much straight away, and then they asked the rest of us. They played a recording of the 911 phone call to us, which recorded everything.
Andrew, our other brother, had suspicions about Jonathon. That was the main reason he doesn’t talk to our father or Jonathon anymore. I try to keep in touch, but it’s complicated. To be honest, it’s difficult for me to have a stable relationship with anyone.
Logan had to have a brain scan to make sure he had no swelling or damage. Luckily he didn’t. The doctor said he was fortunate not to be dead, let alone to have any damage. Jonathon must not have hit him as hard as what it looked like. Logan is now sitting at the other side of Megan against doctors orders. They told him he should rest for a couple of days but as soon as he got bandaged up and it was all clear he came straight here.
I’ve never known two people so perfect for each other. It’s as if they feed off each other. They give each other the energy to pull through. I had my doubts about him to be honest, especially when they broke up. In my mind, even though I overheard her therapy session, I still thought it was him, but David had told me the actual truth of what he thought had happened. Then when they got back together, Logan had told me himself. It turned out David was right.
To think Jonathon had damaged her to the point of not wanting to love someone. That she held all of this anger towards me, it confused me and angered me. Her mother and I played a part in all of this. We should have come clean, maybe then she wouldn’t be dead, and Megan wouldn’t have gone through all of this hurt. It was my fault as much as it was Jonathon’s. I know I shouldn’t have left. I should have been there for her, but I wasn’t. I ran, I took the longest assignment available and left because facing her scared me.
I’ve never felt so much pain in my life when her mother died. Everything hurt, looking a Megan and seeing her mother broke me. I needed to leave, to get away from that pain.
“I’m gonna go make a phone call,” I say standing up. Logan looks at me and nods before turning his attention back to Megan, who is still asleep. It’s now past sunrise, and I want to call Drew to let him know what has happened.
When I got back from my assignment, I gave him a call and told him everything that Jonathon (who I thought was Benjamin at the time) had done. Dialling his number, I stand outside of Megan’s room.
“Do you have any idea what time it is?” He says groggily.
“You were right,” I’m met with silence. “I’m so stupid. I thought,” I sigh as I can’t even finish my sentence. He knows I blame myself for what had happened to Megan.
“You were lied to,”
“You didn’t believe him,”
“That’s not the point, you’re younger than me,” he states.
“He came for her,”
“You knew he would,”
“I know, I just thought I’d be able to protect her,”
“Is she ok?” he asks.
“Yeah, a bit bruised but physically she’s fine,”
“That’s all you can ask for, you can only deal with one thing at a time,” he states.
“I know, what do I do?”
“You just be there for her,”
“I have to go back on assignment,” he's silent again. “Something from my last assignment has come up, and they said it’s only me that can go in, as my cover wasn’t blown,”
“That’s up to you,”
“I don’t have a choice, I either do what they say, or I get done for treason,”
“From the sound of things she’s strong, like her mom. She’ll be ok,”
“Are you saying that to make me feel better?”
“Yes, but it’s also the truth,” he pauses, and I hear him moving. “She is old enough to understand, she also has a good support system by what you’ve told me,” he explains. “Plus you can give her my number if you want, she can meet the better uncle,”
“That’s not exactly difficult, considering,” I state with a roll of my eyes.
“True, well the better of the three of us,” I can hear him smile at that. “What has Carlton said about this?”
“I’m not sure if he knows, yet,” I sigh and look down the corridor to see Sara, Megan’s psychologist walking towards me. God, she’s beautiful. “I have to go,”
“Ok, well keep me updated,” he states
“I will, cya,” I say and put the phone down.
Sara stops in front of me. She’s only wearing sweats and a vest, and I can’t take my eyes off of her. I haven’t seen her since she told me I couldn’t see her anymore and that her duty to my daughter came first.
“Hi,” she says with a small smile.
“Why are you here?”
“It’s all over the news that they caught Jonathon, I came to check on Megan,” She walks past me to look at Megan from the window. I look too to see she’s still asleep.
“I think they sedated her,” I state.
“Probably,” she sighs and moves her hands to her jaw as she takes in Megan’s appearance. “He didn’t rape her, did he?” she asks. I hadn’t even thought about that. She wasn’t exactly fully dressed when I got to them. “You don’t know,” she states.
“No one said anything like that; the nurse never said anything,”
“Then he probably didn’t,” she says and looks back at Megan. “I hope this doesn’t send her back,”
“What do you mean?”
“She has PTSD, this could do anything to her,” she explains, “It could set her therapy back by months, she hardly spoke the first few sessions we had, she was just this shell,”
“She called me Dad,” I say. I haven’t said that out loud yet. When she said it, I’d not felt so happy. She looked at me like a lost little girl before she said it and then she just looked so relieved. “I don’t know if that gives any indication of how she’s feeling,”
“It’s new,” she says, “she’s awake,”
I look to see she’s looking right at us. Logan moves her hair behind her ear, making her look at him and frown at him. She seems angry, he stands, and it seems like they’re arguing. I watch as she holds her head in her hands after a few seconds I realise she’s crying.
“What’s that about?” Sara asks.
“Your guess is as good as mine,” I state. Logan walks towards her and pulls her into a hug.
“Who are the other two?” she asks.
“Carl and David,” I’d forgotten they were in there they were that quiet.
“That’s the best friend, interesting,”
“Why? What?” I ask
“No reason, can I see her?” she asks me.
“Yeah, sure,” I open the door for her and she walks in. I get a whiff of cherries as she walks past me. It’s been a long time since I liked a woman, and this one is playing havoc on my senses.
