Chapter 199

**Megan**

“How are you feeling, Megan?” My doctor asks me.

“Good just can’t keep anything down,” I say as she squeezes the cold gel onto my abdomen.

“Don’t worry it’s normal, try ginger that helps a lot, if it’s awful I can prescribe you some anti-sickness,”

“No, it’s ok, I think I want to stick with the natural things,” she laughs a little and places the scanning wand over my stomach.

“If I had a dollar for every time an expectant mother said that to me, I wouldn’t still be doing this,” she says and looks at me with her brown eyes sparkling with amusement.

“Oh for the birth, give me all the drugs you can give me,” I say, and she laughs.

“So this is the real father?” she asks, looking at Logan. Logan smiles a little as he watches the black and white screen. I give his hand a squeeze making him look at me.

“What?” he asks.

“Yes, he is,” I answer. He looks between us and then strokes my hair to tuck it behind my ear. I feel his hand has started to sweat a little. He seemed nervous on the way here.

“And these are your parents?” she asks, looking at Lorraine and David. When Lorraine found out we were having a scan today, she wouldn’t stop going on about it; I just had to invite her. I feel like she’s the most excited out of us all.

“Yeah, they’re Logans,” I say, and they both look at me. I smile at them, and David shakes his head. “Adoptive,” I add, making Logan chuckle.

“Ok, let us start,” she says, and I watch as she presses a button and then starts to move the wand over my stomach. “Have you had any other symptoms?” she asks.

“Tiredness,”

“The vomiting won’t help with that. I’ll draw some blood to make sure you’re not anaemic,”

“Anything else?”

“No, not really,” I say, and Logan clears his throat. We all look at him to see him looking at me. “What?” I ask.

“Her libido is through the roof,” he says to my doctor. Lorraine chuckles to herself.

“No, it’s not,” I say offended.

“It is, in the last 24 hours I’ve had sex more times than there are days in the week,” he says to me. My jaw drops and I can feel myself blush as I think about that.

“That’s normal, too,” my doctor says with a small smile. “Not so normal for the man to complain,” she jokes.

“From yesterday afternoon we’ve had sex ten times, and that’s not counting the things in between,” he says to her.

“Logan,” I say, moving my hands over my face as I feel myself go red.

“I like sex as much as the next guy, I just want to eat my lunch,” he says.

“Oh god,” I say in embarrassment.

“He’ll be complaining when you don’t want sex,” she says to me. “But it’s normal, it only lasts until the third trimester,” she explains. “It would seem it’s hiding,” she says and moves the wand further down a little and to the side. I drop my hands from my face and watch.

Silence fills the room as my doctor moves the wand around. I feel my heartbeat pick up, Logan’s hand squeezes mine, and I feel him kiss the top of my head. Lorraine’s hand moves into my other. I gulp down the lump in my throat as I feel myself start to get upset.

The doctor squeezes a little bit more gel on my stomach and moves it around with the wand. I close my eyes and turn my head into the crook of Logan’s neck, I hear his heartbeat, and it’s as fast as mine. His hand moves up to my hair as he whispers that it’s ok to me.

Then we hear the fast thumping of the heartbeat. The room lets out a collective sigh.

“The little bugger was hiding,” the doctor says. I smile a little and look at her to see she’s looking at the screen still. “It’s only small, it happens, doesn’t make it any less of an emotional rollercoaster,” she says as I watch her take screenshots.

“Is everything ok?” I ask.

“Perfect, I’m just trying to get a better picture,” she says as she moves the wand a little more. She pushes the screen so we can see, and there it is in a black oval is a whitish-grey outline of a tiny fetus. She zooms in a little more, and I can see the shape better. “That’s it’s head, and from what I can see everything seems to be going good, a nice strong heartbeat and a good size, just under half an inch,” she explains. I smile a little and look at Logan to see his eyes are watering.

“You ok?” I ask him. He looks at me and smiles.

“Great,” he says and blinks a couple of times and clears his throat. I smile a little as he’s trying his best not to cry.

“Carl cried,” I say to him to make him feel better.

“I’m not crying,” he says and stands up straight. I chuckle to myself and look at the screen again then to Lorraine to see her crying. “Lorraine is though,” he says.

“She cries at game shows,” David says and we all laugh.

“I’ll print this out for you, and then we can weigh you, you should have put some weight on, but if your sickness is bad then I’m not expecting you to,” she says as she wipes the gel off my stomach. “You need to stay hydrated if your sickness is bad,” she adds to me. I nod as I slowly get up. Logan helps me down from the bed. “I’ll be right back,” she walks out of the room. I look up at Logan as he moves his arms around me.

“You can breathe now,” I say to him and he smiles.

“Yeah,”

“You too Lorraine,” I say to her, and she grins.

“It’s so cute,” she says, and I smile.

“It looks like an alien,” I say to her.

“No, it’s still cute. I can’t wait,” she cries. I look at David to see him sigh and roll his eyes.

“You alright, David?” I ask.

“Yeah, just baby brain here,” he tilts his head at her.

“Shut up,” she huffs, and I smile at their playfulness. I wonder if Logan and I will be like these two when we’re older. Looking at Logan, I can see he’s going to be like David, but I’m not as carefree as Lorraine.
