Chapter 148: What have I done?
~Raphael's POV~
"It's good to see you again, Raphael." I gazed at the woman I had once loved so deeply and would have done anything for.
For her, I had been willing to give up ever looking for a mate. Even Grey had agreed with my decision. Everything had been going well until she became jealous of my cousin Theresa, whom we literally grew up with.
"What do you want, Alasia?" I felt angry and embarrassed at myself for ever thinking she might change after I started seeing those troubling signs in her.
"I want you. Is that so bad?" She snickered. "Did you like my gift? I gave your mate many gifts. I'm surprised she's still with you." What did she mean by that?
I raised an eyebrow at her, scared she might have hurt Ava. "I swear Alasia, I will find your soul and end it if you ever touch even a hair on her head again," I growled.
For the first time since merging with Grey, he growled with me. "Calm down, beast. I didn't touch her. However, I can't promise she'll still want to be with you."
A cold shiver ran through me. What had this cruel woman done? "What did you do, Alasia?" I asked weakly. What could she have told Ava?
"I didn't do much. I just told her about her heritage and who she truly is." She was speaking in riddles, but her tone scared me.
"What did you do?" I asked again and lunged to grab her. For a second, I thought I wouldn't be able to reach her, but I did.
I grabbed her throat, and it felt good knowing I could strangle her all over again if I wanted to, because this woman was as much a monster as I am.
"I like it when you grab me like that, Raphael. You know I'm the only one perfect to be your queen. The only one suitable for you and your beast."
The way she said it made me realize she didn't know about the merge. Which was good news. Knowing she didn't know everything about me. I felt relieved about that.
"You are trash, Alasia. And I regret ever getting involved with you." I truly meant it. If I hadn't, Theresa wouldn't have died.
What people didn't know was that Alasia had killed my sister. Even after she died, she had still managed to arrange my sister's murder.
At first, I didn't understand why she would do that but now I did. It was all because of the Dark One. Drogon had mentioned something about her being the vessel of the Dark One.
"I wonder how long you'll be able to hate me if I told you that, at this moment, your so-called mate is dying at the hands of the priest, and if I told you that Caleb, Elias, and the Dragon are all in trouble. Their powers are probably being drained as we speak." She smiled a creepy smile.
Goddess! I had been so foolish, and now I had put my little mate in danger again. Not only that, but I had brought trouble to Nordic's kingdom. I groaned inwardly at my stupidity.
My hands slipped from her neck, shaking slightly. What level of foolishness had I displayed?
"Why are you doing this, Alasia?" I asked weakly. I was too tired. I felt like I was doing everything wrong. I had just gotten Ava back, and now she was being taken from me again.
"Have you forgotten? You promised me! You promised you wouldn't care about anyone else. You kept that promise so well. Now, you're in love with some random girl because she's your fated MATE!"
She was breathing heavily as she spoke, her eyes turning red, wind blowing through the chamber, lifting her hair.
"You know, I haven't told you the sweetest part yet," she said, her lips forming into a toothless smile.
She looked so ugly. It was her dark sorcery or whoever she had given herself to that was turning her like this. Otherwise, Alasia was a very beautiful woman.
"Won't you ask me? If you do, I'll tell you everything and where you can rescue your friends." She folded her arms in front of her, acting cutesy.
I decided to play along. I didn't know how to use Grey's powers yet, but I thought I would do a great job once I set my mind to it.
"Tell me, Alasia." Her eyes widened with surprise. She hadn't expected that response.
I nodded at her encouragingly. "Okay. Since you asked so nicely, I'll tell you." I smiled at her.
"Do you remember Mesodomica?" I tried my best not to react even though my body was trembling. Even though I felt beads of sweat on my forehead.
Even though I could still remember the screams of the innocent people of Mesodomica, I remained impassive.
"And what of them?" I asked coolly.
"Guess, my love, just guess," she chuckled.
Her cackle infuriated me, but I kept quiet. I needed to know what she was hiding. Only then would I be able to protect my people and my mate.
"Alasia, I'm not in the mood for your games!" I snapped, finally at my wit's end.
"Okay, okay. Calm down, my love." I hated the endearment she used with me. It made my skin crawl.
"Your beloved mate is the crown princess of the Mesodomica people." She smiled. There was so much joy in her eyes.
I didn't know what to say. I finally dropped to the floor of my chamber. Ava is from Mesodomica? My Ava? How was that possible? I had killed all of the Mesodomica people, except Elias.
"Did you do this, Alasia?" I seethed. "Did you set me up? You knew Ava was my mate, didn't you?"
She just continued smiling as if my pain gave her joy. "I'm glad you liked my gift," and she disappeared.
What had I done? Ava would never forgive me. How was she a Mesodomican? How?
