Chapter 99: Let me out.

Raphael’s POV

"My king, we must wipe out those bastards that dared to start the rebellion!" a minister shouted, his face red with anger. Some of the others agreed, their voices rising in support. But half of them didn’t.

They didn’t want me to touch them.

I let them argue, their voices clashing like waves, until I got tired of listening. This is becoming childish.

"If I don’t find my mate before the end of this week," I said, my voice calm, deadly, "I will wipe out every clan and district that took part and planned this rebellion. Funded them. Sheltered them."

I leaned back, watching them. Now that I had their attention, I knew none of them were innocent—maybe a few.

"Every one of them. Their families. Their children. None of them will be spared." I continued.

The hall went silent.

Then the gasps came. Shock. Fear. Guilt. Some of them shifted uncomfortably, glancing around. The guilty ones always moved first. I read through the minds of the ones at the front.

" This is madness. I told them not to involve me, the mad king never spares anyone."

" I didn't want to be a part of this. Jorah and Wan caused this." That particular minister looked like he might faint soon. His face was unusually red.

" I should never listened to the witch council elders. What have I done?" Too late, for regret isn't it?

" Jorah, this is all that warlock fault!" I already knew who the instigator of the rebellion was. So, I am not surprised.

Jorah, Wan, and the witch clan can hide as long as they want when I am ready for them. I will have their lives. And they better pray no harm comes to my mate.

Councilor Atticus cleared his throat. "My king, I suggest we think reasonably."

I turned my eyes on him. "And what do you suggest?"

Councilor Atticus was someone I respected because, among the seven councils, he was the oldest councillor. He was almost seven hundred years old.

He hesitated, then straightened his back. "The temple priests," he said. "There has been too much bloodshed in the kingdom recently. I suggest we..."

Grey snarled inside me. 'Now, they dare threaten us with the temple priests?'

The temple priests in Lystra like walking alone. They were people who dedicated their time to serving the goddess. But, they never interfered in the kingdom matters. If they did, I would have bought them out to heal Ava.

Not that I didn't. I did and I was rejected.

' You must not listen to them! Those bald heads refused to help us when we went to them!'

Grey was right but I ignored him. Grey had been restless since last night when we saw Ava in our dreams.

"And why do you suggest that, Councilor Atticus?" I asked, calmly. I wanted to know his reasons.

Atticus Artic was one of the few in this room that I could tolerate. He wasn’t perfect, but at least he thought before he spoke. Unlike Councilor Fresno.

"Your Highness, do not listen to Atticus!" Fresno cut in. "He is just an old man who doesn’t think with his brain!"

I turned my head slowly.

Councilor Fresno. The same man who had pissed himself the last time I raised my voice at him. And now he dared to interrupt me?

Grey growled. ' Shall I rip his tongue out?' too violent.

I ignored him again.

"Councilor Fresno," I said, my voice quiet, "I do not remember inviting you to this conversation."

Fresno paled. He took a step back, his hands trembling. "I—I apologize, Your Highness," he muttered.

Before I could speak again, a sudden breeze stirred the air. Then, as if summoned by the wind, two figures appeared at the center of the hall.

I froze. When my eyes saw her. It was Gwendolyn. Anastasia had been searching for her since our return.

She stood there, looking shaken, her eyes darting around the room. And beside her... A man. A man I didn’t know. He looked regal.

Grey snapped inside me. A snarl ripped through my mind, wild and violent. ' KILL HIM!'

' What do you mean, kill him?" I snapped angrily.

Even as the ministers shouted in shock, even as Anastasia stood up, demanding answers, all I could hear was Grey’s growling.

He wanted to charge at the man beside Gwen. He wanted to tear him apart.

"Grey, behave!" I barked, out loud.

The man’s attention flicked to me.

Then he smiled. A slow, knowing smile.

"We meet again, war beast."

' LET ME OUT, VESSEL! LET ME OUT!' Grey began banging against the barrier that separates us.

I fought with all my strength, strengthening the walls of my mind with my mana.

"Stop fighting him. Let him out," the golden-haired man said, his lips curling into a smug smile.

" Don't push him," Gwen cried out, behind him.

" He won't stop anyways. So he might as well have what he wants." What were they talking about?

' You heard him. Let me out!'

" Don't do anything stupid, ancient beast. Only Drogon can heal your mate," Gwen said as she stood in front of him, shielding him from me.

I didn't know I was already in front of him. My body suddenly stopped when I heard his words. It was at that moment, I knew Grey was already in charge of my body.

" And how do you know that witch?" Grey questioned.

" Because I brought him. Don't you want your mate to live?" Gwen asked soothingly...  From the corners of my eyes, I noticed some of the ministers sneaking out.

Others had their heads on the ground, their neck bared in submission... Grey's aura was probably choking them, and they had no choice but to submit.

Anastasia was the only one standing, her face pale and looking shocked. She had a dazed expression on her face.

" You owe me that fight, Drogon Drakon," Grey said before surrendering my body back to me.

" Welcome back, Lycan king," called Drogon said. " I know you have a lot of questions but first, we must find my master's body and rid her of that curse."

" Master? Ava?" I asked incredulously.

" Yes."

"Gwen," Anastasia called softly. Gwen stiffened, and Drogon quickly stepped in front of her, shielding her from Anastasia.

What's in the name of a horror love story is going on here? Gwen doesn't respond to Anastasia; she just stands hidden behind Drogon.

" Anastasia, get me, Caleb, right away,"  I don't know if I did the right thing, but Gwen looked like she wasn't ready to talk, and Anastasia, on the other looked like she had a lot of questions.

Anastasia stood there for a second, and then, with a resigned look, she walked out in search of my beta, who was punishing himself.

" Are you okay?"
