Chapter 215: You whore!

~Alexis POV~

The darkness around us got worse and worse. The wind howled louder than before, making the trees bend and creak in ways that seemed impossible.

Then suddenly, everything went completely quiet.

The wind stopped blowing. The darkness began to fade away slowly.

A tall figure stepped out from behind the large trees.

Tall. Pale. Beautiful in a dangerous, deadly way.

Lucien.

His silver hair moved gently in the soft breeze that was left behind. His red eyes glowed brightly.

He looked exactly like he had that night in my room back at the castle. Real. Solid. Definitely not a dream at all.

He was wearing all black clothes that seemed to move with him. His skin was so pale it almost seemed to glow.

"What are you doing with my mate?" he asked in a cold voice.

His tone was angry and dangerous. He was looking straight at Cassius with those burning red eyes.

Cassius went very still beside me. I saw recognition slowly filter into his gaze as he stared at Lucien.

"She is mine, not yours, Lenica," Cassius replied firmly.

He pulled me against his chest roughly and wrapped his strong arm around me tight. Like he was claiming me as his property.

Lucien's eyes got darker. Redder. More scary looking.

"How dare you touch my mate?" Lucien said. He sounded angry, like he would explode soon.

"She's not your mate," Cassius said back. "She's mine."

"I marked her first."

"That doesn't matter. The bond between us is stronger."

They stared at each other with pure hatred burning in their eyes.

I had never seen two people look like they wanted to kill each other more than these two did right now.

"You're supposed to be dead," Cassius said slowly.

"Disappointing, isn't it?" Lucien smiled but it wasn't friendly at all. It was cold and mean.

"All of House Lenica was destroyed years ago. Everyone knows that."

"Everyone was wrong."

Cassius's grip on me got even tighter. "So it's true then. You are alive. Last of the Lenica."

"I do not care what you think," Lucien said coldly. "But that woman is mine. She has been marked by me. She is my mate."

"As she is mine," Cassius shot back angrily. "Smell her and you will smell me in her. She is my mate!"

Before I could say anything or move, both men moved at the same time.

Cassius let go of me and drew his sword with a sharp sound.

Lucien showed his long white fangs and hissed like an angry cat.

They rushed at each other with incredible speed.

The fight that followed was unlike anything I had ever seen in my entire life.

Cassius was fast. Much faster than any normal human could ever be.

But Lucien was even faster.

Cassius swung his sword in a deadly arc. Lucien ducked under it smoothly and punched him hard in the stomach.

Cassius doubled over in pain but recovered quickly. He spun around fast and almost cut Lucien's head clean off.

Almost.

Lucien moved deadly. Like he could disappear and reappear wherever he wanted to be.

"You always were too slow, Darien," Lucien said mockingly as he dodged another deadly sword strike.

"And you always talked too much, Lenica," Cassius replied with anger.

They knew each other well. That much was very clear to me now.

"House Darien," Lucien laughed coldly. "Full of mutts who can't decide what they want to be."

"Better than bloodsucking parasites who feed off innocent others."

Cassius began to change as he spoke those words. His body got bigger and stronger. But he didn't fully shift into his complete beast form.

"House Darien was always full blown hybrids," Lucien said as he moved. "Able to change into anything they wanted. But your primary beast was always the mountainous wolf, wasn't it?"

"Still is," Cassius growled.

Cassius lunged at Lucien with his long sharp claws stretched out.

Lucien caught both his wrists easily and they struggled hard against each other.

"House Lenica was assumed to be more powerful than House Darien," Lucien said while fighting. "Full blown vampires without any werewolf blood in our pure veins."

"Assumed," Cassius repeated with effort. "But never actually proven."

"Shall we prove it right now?"

They broke apart roughly and began to circle each other like dangerous predators hunting.

I stood there watching them fight over me like I was some kind of prize to be won. Part of me felt angry about it. I wasn't some object they could claim and own.

But another part of me felt confused. And maybe even a little excited about it all. Two incredibly powerful men fighting for me. Both claiming I was their destined mate.

How was that even possible? How could I belong to both of them?

"This is completely ridiculous," I said loudly. "You can't both be my mate."

They completely ignored me and kept fighting with deadly intensity.

Lucien moved like lightning striking. One second he was on one side of the forest clearing. The very next second he was behind Cassius.

But Cassius was ready for him. He spun around fast and caught Lucien's pale arm.

They grappled with each other roughly. Both trying hard to get the upper hand in their fight.

"She carries my scent," Cassius growled like an animal.

"She carries my mark," Lucien hissed back like a snake.

"The bond chooses. And it chose me."

"The bond chose me first."

I watched them fight and felt more confused than I had ever felt in my life.

What bond were they talking about? What marks? What was really happening to me?

The three marks on my neck started tingling again. Like they were responding to Lucien being so close to me.

Both men noticed immediately and stopped fighting for a brief moment.

"You see?" Lucien said with satisfaction. "The marks call to me. She is mine."

"Marks can be removed," Cassius said dangerously. "The mate bond cannot."

"We shall see about that." Lucien ran toward where I was standing and watching.

I was too shocked to move. Too confused and overwhelmed to do anything at all.

Before I knew what was happening, Lucien wrapped his cold hand around my neck.

Not to hurt me. But to bring his beautiful face down close to mine.

He sniffed my neck where the three marks were glowing.

His touch was cold but surprisingly gentle. His breath on my skin made me shiver all over.

I melted into his touch without meaning to. It felt so right. Like this was exactly where I belonged.

But at the same time, I could feel Cassius's burning eyes on us. And that felt right too somehow.

How could they both feel so right?

Lucien pulled back slowly and looked at me with those deep red eyes.

"You smell like him," he said softly. "But underneath, you smell like me."

Then he looked at Cassius with a very satisfied smile.

"She is mine."

Cassius's face got darker than I had ever seen it.

Both men growled at the exact same time.

The sound was absolutely terrifying.

"You whore!" Cassius roared.
