Chapter 203: Queen of Mesodomica.

~Ava's POV~

We arrived at the western gate in four hours. This was the last camp on our borders that we needed to remove them from.

After this, we could return home. My men looked tired even though I have been doing more of the fighting with my powers taking a great toll on me as I kept pushing it.

I heard their troops were over 15,000 strong. Maybe they had brought more soldiers upon hearing the disaster that had happened. This time they were battle ready, positioned in tight formations with their weapons gleaming in the afternoon sun.

I studied their camp carefully. I could see some mages with them, powerful ones. Mages dressed in deep blue robes with golden trim, their staffs topped with glowing crystals.

From their attires, I could confirm these were high-class magic wielders, not the simple wizards that usually served in armies. Lystra was ready for better defense this time. They had learned from their earlier defeat.

The sight of those mages made my stomach tighten. I had relied on surprise in the previous battle, but now they knew what I was capable of. They would be prepared for my ice and fire magic, ready with counter-spells and protective barriers.

I looked to Commander Clinton and gave him instructions. "Let every commander prepare and meet me in my tent immediately."

Within minutes, they were all gathered in my command tent. Maps were spread across the wooden table, showing the layout of the battlefield and the enemy positions. The commanders stood at attention, their faces serious but confident after witnessing my power in the previous battle.

We had to plan carefully. This battle must be won, and Lystra must withdraw, either by bloodshed or negotiation. But looking at their preparations, I doubted they would surrender peacefully.

The commanders were now standing straight, waiting for my orders.

"We will be on the attacking side," I began. "I've seen their mages, their fire power, and how they fight. From their faces, I can sense they're terrified, and that fear will weaken their morale. But they're also desperate, which makes them dangerous."

I pointed to different positions on the map as I continued. "First, we will destroy their defenses. The archers shall be in charge of attacking the mages, kill every mage standing, then destroy the rest. Without their magical protection, their soldiers will be vulnerable."

I placed my hands firmly on the table, meeting each commander's eyes. "And let not one single soldier live. Tell your shifters to get ready for the attack. This ends today."

"Yes, my Queen," they chorused.

The battle began too quickly. The mages of Lystra immediately began casting their spells to protect their soldiers, and of course their shifters.

Centaurs, like 5,000 of them. Lycans in their beast form 2,000 of them since they are very few but very dangerous almost as powerful as the 5,000 centaurs or even more.

Let's not talk about those obnoxious werebears or even the proud fairies. One thing, I am proud of Raphael for, is his he brought these supernatural beings under his kingdom.

It is rare sight. Too bad, I will be crushing them all... I wonder what the reaction of Raphael would be. To see his people headless soaked in their blood. At least, I am kind, I won't be plundering his kingdoms, killing children, women, and the elderlies.

At first, the defense of Lystra was strong. The double force field they created made it hard for the magic infused arrows to penetrate. I could see their head mage, an old man with a long white beard, directing the defensive spell.

I placed my hands in the air and focused my power. When the archers aimed for the force field, I sent a massive fireball first to weaken it. The spell worked perfectly, the barrier cracked and the arrows went flying through.

Some hit the mages in their arms and shoulders, while others struck directly at fatal points. Several of the blue-robed and shifters at the front collapsed immediately.

But some of my shifters took damage too. The battle was not one-sided this time. Lystra's soldiers had learned from their previous defeat and fought with desperate courage.

The soldiers of Lystra fought back with everything they had. I could see the blood bath, the battle ground soaked with the blood of men from both Lystra and my own kingdom.

Bodies fell on both sides, and the clash of metal on metal filled the air.

I had thought maybe I could save my people from casualties, but the soldiers of Lystra were fighting with the strength of cornered beasts.

The remaining mages, in their final attempt to strengthen their defenses, enchanted their shifters with body enforcement magic. They grew larger than before making it much harder for my forces to fight back.

With their final breath, the dying mages shouted "For Lystra!" and a bright light shone across the battle ground. It wasn't blinding, but it only affected their soldiers.

This was the forbidden spell, I had once read about using one's soul as a means to protect another's life. I had read about it but never thought, anyone whom know of it.

The enchanted soldiers of Lystra were now stronger than before. Werebears started tearing through my shifters with unnatural strength and speed.

I couldn't help but notice we were losing rapidly. The werebears and Lycans of Lystra were originally strong warriors, and their enchanted fighting made it more brutal.

My people began to fear. I could see it in their eyes as they fought, the doubt, the terror, the knowledge that they might not survive this battle. Seeing this, something snapped within my spirit.

Before I knew it, I was floating up in the sky, lifted by my own power that I know nothing about. My eyes glowed and red light, and the whole battle ground became silent in my ears.

The swords were still clashing below, but I couldn't hear them anymore. Everything moved in slow motion as I prepared to attack.

I see myself making magical ice spears from my fingertips, each one as long as a sword or even longer. Like raindrops, they targeted only the werebears, centaurs, and Lycans.

I knew within myself that I had lost control of myself but I didn't care. I wasn't seeing others anymore not thinking about whether they had families waiting at home, children who would never see their fathers again.

All I wanted was to protect my people, and I would destroy anyone who threatened them.

I summoned another massive fireball, larger than any I had created before, and burned down their entire camp. The soldiers of Lystra tried to withdraw, running in panic from me but none could escape.

My army fought them as they retreated, chasing them down and killing every one of them.

The war was over, at least for now. The battlefield was ours, littered with the dead and dying from both sides.

I could hear my soldiers singing praises of me as I saw myself falling to the ground, and everything went black.
