Chapter 88: If I Killed your mate

Raphael’s POV

The princess groaned as she struggled to lift herself from the floor, her body falling against the broken stone pillar. I could see the fear flash in her eyes, but she masked it quickly, tilting her chin up in defiance.

A mistake, she shouldn't have done that. Now she has angered me. My fingers wrapped around her throat, dragging her up until her feet barely touched the ground. She gagged, clawing at my wrist, but I didn’t loosen my grip. Not yet.

“You dared,” I whispered, my voice dangerously calm. “You dared to lay a hand on my queen?” I increased the pressure too senile to think.

Her lips parted, but before she could speak, the doors burst open.

The Holies came in. How they came in such a perfect timing, shows they were all in this together. And I will make them pay.

Their white robes fluttered as they rushed in, their faces marked with that same blind arrogance they always wore.

"Your Majesty," the eldest among them spoke, his voice thick with warning. "Release the princess. She was sent by the great king of the Netherlands. Any harm upon her is a direct offense against the Empire."

The others murmured in agreement, their eyes glowing with self-righteousness.

I stared at them, my grip tightening on Allora’s throat. She gasped.

"And what of the offense she committed?" My voice was low, deadly. "What of the attempt on my mate’s life?" Say the wrong thing, just do it and give me a reason to unleash chaos on you all.

The Holies did not waver. "She is a royalty. Her treatment should reflect that." Such impudence!

My laugh was humorless. The anger inside me burned brighter, hotter, feeding the mad beast inside me that was already on his breaking point.

“ I told you, we should kill them!” Grey roared. I ignored him even with the splitting headache that was coming up.

"Then she can enjoy her royal treatment in the dungeons," I declared.

The Holies stiffened. "Your majesty, you cannot…"

I snapped my fingers. Guards rushed in, swords drawn.

"Take them all," I ordered. "I have no use for priests who bring no salvation."

The Holies shouted protests, but the guards obeyed without hesitation, dragging them away as their threats turned into frantic cries. I turned my gaze back to the princess in my grip.

"Do you wish to join them?" I asked softly.

Her lips trembled, and for the first time, her mask cracked. "No," she whispered.

I released her, and she collapsed to the ground, gasping for breath.

"You will answer for your crimes," I told her, my voice dark with promise. "One way or another."

She just bows her head dejectedly, not saying a word as I signalled the guards to drag away.

I walked towards Ava, and as I did, the beast inside me began to calm. Sensing our mate, the urge for blood began to lessen.

“Oh, how I miss you, Ava. Please come to me,” I pleaded brokenly.

“I would give anything, anything for you to return to me.” I poured mana into her to keep her warm.

“ My king?” Caleb mind-linked me. I hadn't spoken to him or Gemma since earlier. Shame at what I did to him and his mate won't let me.

“ I know, you can hear me, Raphael,” he began. “ I know it has been difficult for you. But, you don't have to fight it alone. Before, I was your beta and adviser, I was your friend.”

“ What do you want, Caleb?” I asked.

“ Nothing, Raphael. I just want you to know, you have us. Gemme and I. We are here.”

“ Thank you,” I croaked out. I ended the mind-link. As Grey fought to take charge once again.

I give in, unable to bear his assault against my mana core and mental mind.

“ You have done well, vessel,” and with that, he ran into the night.

~THE DUNGEON- ALLORA'S POV~

The cold air of the dungeon to my skin as I sat on the hard stone. The dungeon was darker than I expected, the scent of damp earth and rusted chains a little suffocating but certainly something I could handle.

After all, this wasn't the first time I had been thrown in a dungeon. I am just a little cold. I tried warming myself up but rubbing my arms against each other.

My mother's image flashed into my mind and instead of regret, I felt proud of myself. If I had not done what I did, my mother and little Sanuel would have been killed.

It is my duty as an elder sister to protect my brother. And my now pregnant mother. I wonder if the king would listen to me. I doubt he would. I wouldn't as well, if I had a mate.

The door creaked open. Heavy footsteps echoed against the stone walls. I looked up and I saw him standing there. A cold shiver ran through as I remembered his hand on my neck.

The King, he stood there just looking at me but something felt different. I couldn't name it.

This king looking at me now, looked scary, way worse than the one earlier that had been strangling me. I shifted backward. My back pressing against the cold wall.

The air around him was suffocating, thick with a black energy that made my stomach twist. His eyes, no longer just gray, but darker.

As Neatherlandals, we could see energies. And what my royal father doesn't know is, I more than see energy, I can also heal just like the holies. My powers were purer than any out there.

Also, I have heard rumors. Stories of the beast inside this man. Now, I was seeing it for myself.

"You will speak," he said, his voice deep, rough with something inhuman. "And you will not lie."

I swallowed hard, my throat dry. "I..." My voice cracked. I steadied myself.

"I was sent by my father. But not as an honored princess. I was meant to be discarded."

His eyes narrowed. "Explain."

I let out a shaky breath. "My mother is a concubine. I am not the most favored princess as the world believes. The Empress, my father's true wife, saw me as a threat to her daughter, Alicia. So she conspired with my father to rid me from the palace, by offering me to you as a means of allegiance to Lystra."

After all, everyone knows, you are mad and I wouldn't last a day according to them. After explaining to him, his expression did not change. He simply waited.

"But before I left," I continued, my voice barely above a whisper, "my stepmother... she made me an offer." Just in case, plan A didn't work out. Plan B would solidify my demise.

The words fell from my mouth like a hot poison stuck in my throat.

"If I killed your mate, my mother and siblings would be spared."

Silence. A suffocating, crushing silence. Then, a low chuckle. I shivered. It wasn’t a laugh of amusement.

It was the sound of something breaking. And as he continued laughing, the dark energy around continued to mount up until it felt like he had covered his own golden energy.

The king took a step forward, and in that moment, I knew I had sealed Netherland’s fate.
