Chapter 151: I am not your mother.
~Ava's POV~
I woke up suddenly, the name "Norelle" still swimming in my head from my dream. My heart was beating fast as I looked around my room.
Callie stood nearby, watching me with a strange look on her face.
"Callie," I said, not quite believing what I was seeing. "What did you call me?" My voice sounded scared, even to me.
"Princess Norelle, Your Majesty," Callie answered with a big smile.
I stared at her in shock. Her hair, which was always black before, was now silver. And her eyes, once brown, were now bright blue. She looked completely different.
And it instantly occurred to me, she must be from Mesodomica. My dream was right. Everything was starting to make sense now.
"Why, Callie? After all this time?" I needed to understand why my maid, who I always thought was human, would hide this from me.
"It was my mission to find you and protect you, Your Highness," she said, standing taller now. "It took a while but I finally found you."
"Protect me or put me in trouble?" I asked. I remembered how I was held captive by Alasia for six whole months. I did that to keep her brother safe. But now I was not sure if it was worth it. What if Callie planned that too?
The thought hit me hard. "You did not arrange my captivity with Alasia, right?" That would be the highest form of betrayal ever.
Callie started shifting from one foot to the other. My stomach dropped as I watched her. She did know about it!
"All those cruel treatments and the changes Raphael went through," I said, getting angry. "How dare you?"
"I know you might not understand what we did, Princess," Callie said quickly. "But you cannot blame us. We had to watch our queen get worse every day, missing her daughter. And you, a princess with a curse, could not remember your own people."
She took a deep breath. "We are people who live just like the gods, we cannot die except by another god's hand. I am not saying you should understand, Your Highness, but I hope you could try."
She looked away from me. I thought about what she said, but it did not make sense. If they were gods, why were they in the second realm? And why was Raphael able to destroy some of them? Something did not add up.
"So it is true," I mumbled. "My captivity with Alasia was planned by your people." I still could not believe they would sell me out to the enemy they claimed to be protecting me from.
"It was a necessary evil, Princess," Callie said. "It was the best way to bring out your powers. The only way the ice coffin could work and finally break your curse that the gods placed on you."
"I still cannot wrap my head around it," I said, shaking my head.
"Princess, I will try my best to explain, but only the queen's mother knows everything. I am, after all, your humble servant."
I nodded at her. I was desperate to understand what she was talking about.
"Princess, Alasia wanted your body, not the curse that came with it," Callie explained. "We pretended we would accept her offer to restore our kingdom to its former glory, and in exchange, we would give her your body. But we told her about the curse, knowing she would look for a way to break it because she was so obsessed with having your body."
"Why?" I asked. There must have been a reason for Alasia's obsession. It could not just be because of Raphael, could it?
"It is because of the Sacred Beast, as you suspect, Princess," Callie answered.
Wow, I thought to myself. They knew everything and really did plan it well.
"We also told her about the solution, the ice coffin in the depths of the God's realm. A cherished artifact. It is very powerful."
"You guys planned this so well," I said. I was impressed even though I was still angry.
"Princess, when you were once part of a great kingdom, and it gets taken from you, you will do anything to have it back. That is what my people kept thinking about."
Just then, Lorraine walked into the room. Callie instantly stopped talking. She bowed low and said, "Good day to you, my queen."
I looked at Lorraine, wondering if I should tell her what I just learned. But the words stuck in my throat. How much did she know? Who could I really trust now?
As Lorraine smiled at me, I realized my world had changed forever. Nothing was what I thought it was. And I had so many more questions that needed answers.
"If you are the queen then..." I stopped short, holding my breath. It could not be, right?
"Little princess, I am not your mother."
"Oh," it hurt. I did not know why it did but it hurt. I could not believe I was still being expectant. What if these people did not accept me?
Most important thing, what if they were wrong and I was not their princess?
"I am not your mother does not mean your mother is not alive. Siwa is my daughter."
Ahh... What was this? "I do not understand," I said in a small voice.
Lorraine sighed. "Little princess, after you were cursed, you died a few years later when you found out Grey could no longer remember you. The yearning killed you."
"Killed me or Norelle?" I said, correcting her. I would not be dying because of any man if I had an entire kingdom depending on me.
"Norelle, Evangelina, and Ava. They are all you."
"Those are my previous lives. But I am not them. I am Ava. An ordinary omega from the Moon stone pack. I am Ava, that nobody wanted or would stay by my side except for Raphael." Lorraine looked at me and then walked towards a chair a few seats away and sat down.
"You promised me, Princess, that you would give your people a chance if I save your friends. I have done that and I intend to do more. Save your beloved." Raphael. What happened?
“You promised to help your people if I saved your friends. I've done my part. Now it's your turn; to save your mother... and perhaps, your mate.”
"Raphael does not need saving. He is a god now," I replied angrily. I hated the fact that I was being threatened.
"Gods can be imprisoned especially if that God has a weakness."
