Chapter 186: If you like it rough.

~Third POV~

"Get your filthy hands off me!" Alexis screamed, her voice roughing up with rage and terror.

The words tore from her throat before she could stop them. Every fiber of her being wanted to fight, to claw and bite and make these bastards pay for touching her.

But cold reality crashed over her like ice water. Ten thousand soldiers surrounded her. Maybe more. Even if she had her powers, even if she could still call her internal flame, she'd be dead before she could burn through a dozen of them.

Fight and die, or stay quiet and maybe live long enough to escape. The choice should have been easy, but her body shook with the effort of holding back.

Dimwit's grip tightened on her arm, his fingers digging deep enough to leave bruises. "Ooh, this one's feisty, Captain," he called out, grinning like a wolf. "Can I have her, Captain? Been weeks since we had any fun."

Alexis looked up at the man they called Captain, and her heart dropped into her stomach. She knew that face. Had seen it dozens of times in Ava's war room, sitting across from her leader, sharing intelligence, making plans. One of their most trusted contacts in Lystra.

Or so they'd thought.

The pieces fell together like stones in her gut. This man wasn't their spy. He worked for Lystra. Had always worked for Lystra. Every piece of information Ava thought she was getting, every strategic advantage they'd believed they had, it was all lies. All of it.

One thing, Alexis didn't tell Ava was that , she knew that man. He had raided her home. The Armestine clan had been destroyed because of him.

So she had harbored hatred against him. She had even been tormented in her dreams by his face and how innocent and young ones were killed by him.

When she had seen him with Ava and Lorraine, she had wanted to rip him apart. Tell them who he truly was. Well, that was until he cornered her and told to shut her mouth.

He had not been remorseful of what he did to her people. His excuse was that, he was a only spy that was acting cruel so whatever instructions is given to him, he must carry out.

Alexis had been stupid so she turned a blind, all for Ava. Ava had looked so tired and at peace with him, she didn't want to destroy that so she kept quiet.

Now this. Her keeping silence has come back to bite her in the ass. She might likely die today as will her friend that she had been trying to protect.

He'd played them. Played Lorraine. And now ten thousand soldiers sat at their border because of his betrayal, ready to wipe Mesodomica off the map. Ready to kill everyone she'd ever come care about.

Her teeth ground together so hard her jaw ached. If she still had her internal flame, she'd burn him alive right here and just be damn with whatever consequences comes.

She thought how she would watch his skin blister and his eyes melt while he screamed. But that power was gone, locked away where she couldn't ever reach it, and she'd never felt more helpless in her life.

"Don't touch her," the captain said, his voice ending whatever was causing the soldiers' laughter. "I'll be having her first."

The casual way he said it, like she was a piece of meat he'd claimed at market, made bile rise in her throat. But then his next words hit her right in the gut.

"If she's still alive by then, you guys can share her among yourselves until she's dead."

The soldiers hooted and whistled their approval, already making crude gestures and comments about what they'd do to her.

But Alexis barely heard them. White-hot rage exploded through her chest, burning away fear and caution and common sense.

"You bastard!" she snarled, struggling against Dimwit's grip. "You fucking betrayed..."

The captain's hand slammed over her mouth before she could finish. His palm was rough and calloused, tasting of leather and salt and something metallic that might have been blood. His eyes locked onto hers, and she saw something dangerous flicker there. A warning.

"Captain Cassius," Dimwit said, still holding her arms. "You can have your fill. You hardly take any females from raids, so we'll gladly leave this feisty blue-hair for you."

Captain Cassius. So that was his name. She filed it away, promising herself that if she lived through this, she'd carve it into his gravestone.

The other soldiers laughed and whistled, making jokes about her hair color and what they'd do when their captain was finished with her. Their voices faded together into a chorus of threats and crude promises, each word another stab to her chest.

Cassius kept his hand pressed tight over her mouth, his fingers digging into her cheeks. She could feel his pulse through his palm, steady and calm like this was just another day for him. Like destroying lives and betraying trust was as natural as breathing.

"That's generous of you, boys," he said, and his voice held just a hint of amusement. "Don't worry. There'll be plenty left for everyone."

The soldiers erupted in fresh laughter, slapping each other on the back and making bets about how long she'd last. Alexis closed her eyes, trying to block out their voices, trying to think of some way out of this nightmare.

But all she could see behind her eyelids was Ava's face when she'd talked about her spies going quiet. The trust in her leader's eyes when she'd spoken about their contacts in Lystra. The hope that maybe, just maybe, they had a chance against whatever was coming.

All lies. All of it built on the word of a man who was probably laughing at them even now. She hadn't regretted given her internal flame to Gwen earlier.

No, she hadn't but at that moment, she regretted so bad. Hated herself for being foolish and thinking things through.

" You'd best be quiet," Cassius whispers in her ears making her stiff. Then in a loud tone he added. " I won't be too rough except you like it rough."
