I am Drakon

Ava's POV
"Do not be afraid, child," he said, his voice soft yet commanding. "I bear you no harm."

But I couldn’t move. My body trembled with fear, and my mind was lost in the madness of what was unfolding before me. His words of assurance meant nothing as terror gripped every fiber of my being.

Suddenly, from the shadows, a massive form emerged,a creature beyond anything I could have imagined. My breath hitched in my throat as its colossal body unfolded, its scales shimmering like the most polished obsidian. This was no ordinary beast. This was a fucking dragon!

Its serpentine form stretched over twenty feet, every inch of it exuding power. The iridescent sheen of its scales shifted under the dim light, ranging from deep blues and purples near its base to fiery reds and oranges along the crest of its back. Each flicker of movement seemed to cast a different array of color, making it seem alive with flames beneath the surface.

Its wings unfurled, massive and wide, casting an overwhelming shadow that swallowed the entire room. Between the delicate, membranous skin stretched over its wing bones, I could see the faintest veins running like rivers of power through its frame.

The dragon’s head rose above me, its piercing emerald eyes burning with an inner fire that sent a shiver down my spine. Those eyes locked onto mine, as if peering into the deepest corners of my soul, exposing every secret and every hidden fear.

Sharp, curved talons extended from its massive paws, deadly weapons that could tear through steel as easily as flesh. I stood frozen, my legs like stone, as the dragon’s presence filled the room with an aura so intense, I thought I might collapse under the weight of it.

Then, its voice thundered through the air like a storm.

"Ava..." It spoke, the sound reverberating in my chest like the strike of a gong. "I am Drakon, servant of the moon goddess Selene. I have been waiting for you."

I blinked, trying to steady myself, but my legs trembled uncontrollably. Dragons exist here too? My heart raced, not just with fear, but with something darker, something that felt like excitement.

"You have a great future ahead of you, Ava. A future with Lystra. I am here to guide you through the trials that await you."

His voice softened, losing some of the thunderous quality, and I found my strength slowly returning. Still, the sheer enormity of what was happening was too much to process. My entire body was still trembling, fear pooling in my stomach like a heavy stone.

“I mean you no harm,” Drakon repeated, his voice calmer now.

But I couldn’t help but question his intentions. Why was he here? Why me?

His human form was no less breathtaking than his dragon one. His skin gleamed like molten gold, tanned and perfect. His dark, midnight hair contrasted with the shimmer of his skin. And those eyes, still the same striking emerald, still capable of seeing right through me, they remind of Raphael's eyes.

I swallowed hard. He wasn’t wearing any clothes, only his bare chest was exposed, showing off toned muscles that glistened under the dim light. I forced myself to keep my eyes from traveling lower, praying he wasn’t naked.

“I am not naked downward,” he said, as if reading my thoughts. He stepped closer, his movements fluid and confident, and the room seemed to brighten with his presence.

My body instinctively moved backward, but I bumped into a wooden pillar, clutching it to keep myself upright. He could read my thoughts. Or maybe my fear was just that obvious.

Before I could process what was happening, I felt my legs give out, the strength in my body failing. But before I hit the ground, Drakon was there, catching me. His arms encircled me, pulling me against his solid frame.

“I know you have many questions,” he whispered in my ear, his voice sending a shiver of unexpected pleasure down my spine. My body responded in ways that shocked me.

“Come, sit.” He guided me gently toward a chair that hadn’t been there a moment ago. How did it appear?

Drakon sat me down before crouching to my level. He crossed his legs effortlessly, sitting on the floor as if it was the most natural thing in the world.

I stared at him, my mind racing. “What is this place?” I finally managed to ask, meeting his intense gaze.

“This is my home. The heart of Lystra.” His lips curved into a crooked smile, transforming his handsome face into something beyond breathtaking. For a moment, I thought he could pass for a divine being, both ethereal and terrifying.

“The heart of Lystra?” I repeated, trying to grasp what he was saying. “Why am I here?”

“I called you here,” he said simply.

“Why?” I pressed.

His expression grew more serious. “Because of the Arcane competition.”

My heart skipped a beat. The Arcane Arena, the very thing the training master had just announced. “What does the competition have to do with you?” I asked, confused.

“You are the destiny of Lystra,” he said, his emerald eyes never leaving mine. “If anything happens to you, Lystra will fall. Isn’t that why the moon goddess gave you a second chance?”

His words shook me to my bones. He knows. He knew I had been reborn. The secret I had kept hidden from everyone… How could he know? Did others know as well?

“I thought…” I began, my voice trembling. “I thought the moon goddess pitied me. That’s why she gave me another chance.”

Drakon stood, towering over me once again, his golden skin gleaming under the strange light. “Stop trembling,” he said softly. “I cannot harm you. I was bound to protect you, since the day you were born. Just like your wolf.”

My fists clenched in my lap, trying to quell the shaking. Everything about this felt unreal.

“I can't answer all of your questions today, but know this; I am here to protect you. And to do so, you must be prepared for the Arcane competition.”

He moved toward a large table that had appeared out of nowhere. On it was a series of strange instruments. He picked up a glass vial shaped like a funnel and, to my horror, sliced open his hand, letting his blood fill the vial. He added a dark liquid and mumbled a few words I couldn’t understand. The mixture turned bright green.

He walked back to me, stretching out his hand, offering vial to me.

“Drink,” he said. “It will bond us, like you are bonded with your wolf.”

I stared at the vial, shock and uncertainty written all over my face. “Why would I want to be bonded with you?”

His eyes softened. “It will save you.”

I hesitated, but in the end, I took the vial and downed the bitter liquid in one gulp. The taste was revolting, and I glared at him, feeling betrayed.

“I never said it would be sweet,” he smirked, shrugging.

Suddenly, a searing pain exploded at the base of my neck. I cried out, my hands flying to the burning spot as I clawed at the skin, desperate to make the pain stop.

Drakon was at my side in an instant, his hand on my neck. “Bear it. It will pass.”

I gripped his arm, clinging to him until the pain began to subside. I turned my head slightly, catching a glimpse of a shimmering dragon tattoo on my shoulder blade.

A matching tattoo appeared on Drakon’s chest, though his was a wolf, an image that mirrored Maya perfectly.

“Now we are bound,” he said, releasing my hand. “Whenever you are in trouble, the tattoo will glow,
and I will come to you.”

My mind was spinning. I couldn’t process everything happening at once. “What happens if one of us dies?” I blurted out.

“If I die, you’ll be fine,” Drakon said quietly. “But if you die, I die.”
