Chapter 76: He is big.
Gwen's POV
It wasn't because I was in pain, no. I wasn't bending over because of the pain. It was exhaustion. I drained all of my powers. All the months of training secretly and learning new spells, I just spent it all summoning her.
I am nothing less than a human. My witch's power is almost gone. I didn't regret it. No. I don't, for one bit. I don't regret it as long as it would bring Ava back. Then I am okay. I just want her back and alive. I can start over again. A new beginning.
" Oh, child, Why did you have to use all of your powers when you knew it would drain you?" Her warm voice questions. It was so soothing, almost like warm milk.
" Please save her," I cried. Tears streamed down my face as the face flashed through my mind.
" Who do you want to save this time, little Gwen?" Hearing call me 'little Gwen' made my tears fall more. She cradles my face and gently wipes off my tears.
She sat on the ground and then pulled me to her, resting my face on her lap. And once again, it felt like I was a child that would sit with Mother Myra. When people of my coven found out that even with my powerlessness, I could communicate and call on mother earth and she would answer, made them hate me.
" It's my friend," I said in between sobs. " She is dying and it's all my fault. Please save her, mother. Please." I hadn't called anyone's mother in a long while.
Ever since I was banished and my powers taken from me and given to my sister, I had ended up resenting her for not protecting and coming to my aid. I had thought she was my friend, so being betrayed so cruelly still made me angry, yet, here I am , begging her to save my friend.
" Why do you always cry to save someone and never you?" She asked softly. Running her hands on my hair and with that, every sort of exhaustion I was feeling slips away.
I understand why she would say that I was always helping someone, after all, the last time I had summoned her after being drained of my powers was to save Anastasia from my clan and she had done it. She was the reason Anastasia was still alive.
“ Besides, the one you are crying to save is on borrowed time.” She whispers softly. Her hands, still softly playing with my hair.
“ Borrow time, mother?” What does she mean? Then my mind flashed to the story Ava told us some months ago.
“ I see, you finally understand.” She said sadly. “Your friend is just living on the benevolence of Selene. It might not last long if she doesn't do what Selene wants of her.” I still don't get it.
“ I know you don't understand. I will direct you to the one that can save her. However, you will have to pay a price.” There was a slight edge to her voice.
An edge that made my head snap to look at her. “ The one you must go to, can not leave the palace. And he already has a master.”
She is speaking in parables. “ Mother, you speak in riddles that I can not understand.” I said burrowing more into her lap.
“ You will understand soon. However, you mus be very wise. The one you are going to is very crafty.” I nod at her when she kept gazing down at me.
I knew, she wanted me to verbalize my answer. “ Yes, mother. As long as Ava will be saved.”
“ She will. Although everything has a price.” Another riddle at least I understood this one.
“ I will do it. Anything to bring her back.” She looks and then shakes her head.
“ The price might cause you a lot. Can you really do it, little Gwen?” Yes, I can. I am the one waiting for her most. I want her alive and burning on ways to destroy the ones that hurt her.
“ Little Gwen, won't you have a rethink?” I didn't like the mother was sounding. However, whatever price it is. I will pay it. If not I that has caused this trouble for her, then who could do it then? Certainly, not the king. The people depend on him.
“ What might be asked of you, could be a price that would cost you dearly, little one.”
“ I don't understand mother,” i was indeed confused. I don't mind anything at all. Any sacrifice needed. I will pay it.
She looks me in the eye and then asked me. “ What would you do, if you asked to sacrifice Anastasia?” My heart drops. The being wouldn't be so cruel right?
“ I will negotiate and see if they will have me.” I answered after some contemplation.
“ Such quick answer.” She withdraws back a bit and asked another question. “ Of the one left behind?”
Before, I could answer, she takes my hand. “ Come, child. You will understand soon. I will send you to him first.”
“ Who?”
“ The one that can save your friend.”
“ Then why do you sound that way, mother?”
“ Just know I tried protecting you. Once again, how about, you allow fate take it's course?”
“ She was given a second mother. I can't let that be snatched from her, as well.”
Mother earth looks at me with anguish and pain in her eyes. And somehow, I knew wherever I was being sent into was the lion’s den. Or even worse.
“ If you ever need me, for yourself, child, call me. I will come to you.” The earth began shaking, leaves and everything starts fading.
I feel something push me and I just surrender myself to the entire process. I didn't resist. Tunnel after tunnel began to open up.
The next moment, I see myself in an extremely warm room, not room. Chamber. A very charming one at that. It's decorated in gold. All of it gold.
Gold doors, even a gold mirror. Gold bed stand. This person must be fascinated with Gold. Well, first thing first. Find the owner and make a deal with them.
“ Child, go swift and be careful. The one in this chamber is cunning.” The mother's voice whispered like a wind caressing my cheek.
It felt cool. A contrast to the warm environment I was in.
“ Hello,” I called out. My voice reechos my word to me.
“ I am Gwendolyn Saraif. Mother's earth, Chosen. I have been sent by her.” No response but I hear loud rumbling.
My stomach drops but I don't stop. Ava, needs me. “ Mother earth, said there's a price for the help you render. I am willing to give it all. S-so please help me.” I said the last part brokenly.
“ A witch? In my chamber. Interesting.” A sweet charming voice says across the room. I don't know what happens as I start feel warm.
“ What's happening to me?” I cried out. It felt like, tingling burning sensations were zipping through me.
“ Witch,” growled the creature. “ What are you doing getting all hot and wet in my roof? Didn't your mother teach you not to test dragons with sex? Especially a starved one that has been craving it for centuries?!” He roared and he jumps on me.
Mother earth. He is big and gorgeous.
