Chapter 223: RUN, SHE IS A MONSTER
~Third Person POV~
Siwan and Raphael rushed outside to see what was causing the terrible thunder, even though they knew within themselves what it might be. However, what they saw made their blood freeze with horror.
Portals were opening everywhere in the sky above Mesodomica, raining down like stardust. Not just one or two, but dozens of them.
From these portals came thousands of beings from the second realm. Shifters in their animal forms poured out like a swarm of bees. Wolves, bears, centaurs, and creatures thought extinct. All of them growling and ready to kill.
But that wasn't the worst part.
Thousands of gods started appearing as well. Their bodies glowed with divine light, but their faces showed no mercy. They floated down from the sky, each one carrying different weapons.
More portals opened, and the people of Lystra came through as well. Soldiers in armor, their faces hard with hate.
Within minutes, the whole of Mesodomica was surrounded. There was no escape. No place to run. Enemies filled every street, every corner, every open space.
The people of Mesodomica began screaming in terror. They ran from their houses, trying to find safety, but they didn't get far before they were caught.
The mass slaughter began immediately.
Shifters tore through crowds of innocent people. Gods sent bolts of divine fire into homes and shops. Lystra soldiers cut down anyone who tried to fight back.
Raphael and Siwan stood frozen, watching in disbelief at how fast everything was turning into a nightmare.
"How did this happen so quickly?" Siwan whispered, tears streaming down her face.
Before Raphael could answer, Gwen, Drogon, and Haggar appeared beside them.
"So they are finally here," Gwen said calmly, as if she had been expecting this all along.
She looked at Drogon and then at Anastasia, who had just joined them.
"I need you to take the children," Gwen told them. "I will send you all to the first realm, where you will be safe and sound."
Drogon's eyes flashed with anger. "Why are you sending me away? I understand why you want Anastasia to leave, but why are you trying to send me away as well?"
"They will kill you if you don't go," Gwen replied simply. "They are here not just for Ava, but mostly for all of us. We are the scourge of the gods above. We defied their cosmic laws. That's why they will make sure we fight and die."
Her voice became softer. "The children will not be spared if you don't leave. I don't want that for them."
"Even if I will die, I will not leave here," Drogon said fiercely. "You are my life. There is no life without you. I experienced life without you before, and it was never worth living."
Gwen looked away, trying to hide her tears. She turned to Anastasia.
"You will not listen to me either, Ana?"
Anastasia looked at her with mixed feelings. She didn't want to leave, but she could see this was important for Gwen.
"I will protect the children with my life," she finally said. "I will leave, but you better return to me, Gwen. Nothing must happen to you. If something does, I will never forgive you."
For the first time in days, Gwen smiled slightly. She pulled Anastasia into a tight hug.
"Go get the children," she whispered.
Anastasia nodded and ran toward the hallway to find Iris and Ellis.
That's when Ava appeared, walking toward them with steady steps. Everyone expected her to be confused and ask questions about what was happening, but she didn't.
Gwen looked at her carefully. "You were hearing us, weren't you?"
Ava nodded. She had heard everything while she was unconscious. She understood the danger they were all in.
When Ava saw her mother Siwan, they both started crying. Siwan rushed into her daughter's arms.
"I am so sorry," Siwan kept saying over and over again. "I am so sorry for everything."
Ava just wept, holding her mother tight. "I know, Mother. I know."
Their emotional reunion was interrupted by a loud voice that rang across the entire kingdom. It was so powerful that it made the ground shake under their feet.
"LISTEN, PEOPLE OF MESODOMICA!" the voice boomed. "YOU ARE HEREBY JUDGED BY THE GODS OF THE THIRD REALM! AND YOU ARE ALL FOUND GUILTY!"
The voice paused, letting the words sink in. Running citizens screamed more as fear sank into their hearts. The ones old enough remembered the battle they once had with Raphael, when he had destroyed them.
"AS SUCH, YOU WILL ALL MEET YOUR END TODAY! NO ONE WILL BE SPARED! NO ONE WILL ESCAPE! THIS IS YOUR PUNISHMENT FOR DEFYING THE NATURAL ORDER!"
Ava wiped her tears and stepped away from her mother. Her blue eyes had turned silver again, and her powers started flowing through her. She looked so beautiful and scary at the same time.
"Not if I have anything to say about it," she said quietly, looking towards the direction of the gods.
She began to float upward, but Raphael stopped her. He held her tight.
"I don't want to lose you, little one. Let me fight this war for you," Raphael said, pulling her into his arms. His hands gently cupped her cheek as he looked into her silver eyes that kept changing between blue and silver.
"My people, Raphael. I have to protect them. If there is a next life, I don't want to be a queen or a princess. I just want to be me. Loved by you."
"Whatever you will be, Ava, I will be as well. I will find you. But please let me fight this war for you."
Ava shook her head and flew off with her powers toward the sky.
Ava twisted her hands and blue blinding light burst from within her, creating a shield around all the people of Mesodomica as she dragged up anyone she sensed wasn't one of them.
The more energy she used, the more she screamed and blood dripped from her eyes and nose.
"Ava! Ava! What are you doing?" Gwen and the others screamed, hitting heavily on the shield Ava had created.
They continued to hit on it, but they couldn't break it. Ava wouldn't stop lifting the people. At first, the gods didn't know what was happening.
It was when they started losing their powers and falling to their deaths that they realized she was sucking their powers from them.
"RETREAT! SHE IS A MONSTER! SHE IS SUCKING OUR LIFE FORCE! RUN!" The gods and even the beings from the second realm were no match for her.
When any of them tried to attack, she started sucking their energy. Not retreating or backing off, she reduced all the shifters to their human forms as they fell to their deaths.
Pile upon pile fell. Both gods and normal beings. No one could escape Ava. If any of them dared to move, their powers immediately connected to hers and get drained dry.
No matter how brave a god is, they too can be exhausted. Ava, having sucked too many different energies within her, couldn't keep up either.
