Chapter 222: Your Queen is evil.
~Third Person POV~
The explosion from Gwen's room shook the whole castle.
Down in the dungeon, the chains holding the prisoners shook and cracked a little, making them easy to break. Landon looked up as dirt fell from the ceiling. Another loud crash came through the stone walls.
"What's happening up there?" Hellena whispered.
"I don't know," Landon said, pulling at his chains. "But whatever it is, the guards left."
The dungeon entrance was empty. No soldiers anywhere. The magic locks on their chains glowed and went out as the castle's guards ran elsewhere.
"This is our chance," Landon said, his eyes full of hate. "While they're busy fighting whatever's happening upstairs."
"What about the others?" Beatrice asked, pointing to the other prisoners still in chains.
Landon was already walking to the door. "They can die here. We have work to do."
Hellena grabbed his arm. "What kind of work?"
"Getting back at her," Landon said angrily. "That crazy woman destroyed our lives. Now we destroy hers."
Meanwhile, in the big throne room, Ava sat with scrolls she was going through as the castle shook again. Raphael stood next to her, looking worried.
"That came from Gwen's room," Ava said, standing up.
Before Raphael could answer, Haggar ran through the doors. Her hair was messy and her clothes were torn.
"They're fighting," Haggar said, breathing hard. "Seraphine attacked Gwen. The curse is starting."
"What curse?" Raphael asked.
"The one Arabelle put on herself. If she ever loved the dragon again, she would die. But it's not working right. Instead of dying, Gwen is changing." Haggar said not making sense at all although all Ava understood was Gwen was in trouble.
"Changing how?" Ava asked in confusion.
"Into Arabelle, the having her memories, her power, everything about her. If we don't stop it, Gwen will be gone forever."
Another crash shook the castle. This time, they could see silver light through the windows.
"What are you waiting for?! We have to help her," Ava said, walking to the door.
"No," Haggar stopped her. Ava looked shocked and angry. "This is her fight," Haggar said. "But you need to know there are other problems."
"What problems?" Ava looked at her, getting impatient.
"The prisoners. All this noise is perfect for them to escape."
Raphael's eyes darkened. "Landon."
"Yes, and others. They'll use this mess to attack back."
Understanding dawn on Ava. "The people. If they're free during all this..."
"Exactly," Haggar said. "While we're fighting Seraphine, they'll be hurting the people." Ava staggered back.
"We have to stop them," Ava said.
"You can't be in two places at once," Raphael said. "Choose carefully."
"The people need me," Ava said, though her heart pulled toward helping Gwen.
"I'll handle the prisoners," Raphael said. "You stay and be with your friend."
But before they could decide, a guard ran in.
"My Queen! the guard said, breathing hard. "The prisoners! They're in the market!"
\~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The market was busy even with the strange sounds from the castle. People kept shopping, trying not to think about the flashes of light and loud crashes. They thought their new queen was trying new things with the prisoners she brought.
That's when Landon and the others ran out.
"People of Mesodomica!" Landon shouted, jumping on a water fountain in the middle. "Look at me!"
People turned around, knowing who he was. They remembered seeing him and the others walked around the city in chains to shame them.
Some people stepped back, cautious. Others moved closer, curious.
"Listen to me!" Landon continued. "Your queen has been lying to you!"
"Go away!" an old woman shouted. "You're criminals!"
"Criminals?" Hellena laughed bitterly. "We're the victims here!"
"Your queen is a liar!" Landon kept shouting. "She's evil! She's a whore who sleeps around!"
The crowd gasped. Some looked shocked. Others looked angry.
Hellena stood next to him. "She's sleeping with his uncle!" she pointed at Landon. "She can't be trusted!"
"That's not true!" someone in the crowd yelled.
"It is true!" Landon said. "Your so-called queen was once a servant in our pack! A rejected nobody that everyone hated!"
"She was nothing but trash!" Annabelle added. "She used to steal food to eat! She lived like a dog!"
Some people in the crowd began to murmur. Was this true?
"She was my mate once," Landon proudly said pointing to Hellena. "But I rejected her to marry her sister here! She's been angry and evil ever since!"
"She came to our pack like a demon!" Hellena cried fake tears. "She killed our children! She destroyed our homes!"
"She's evil and you shouldn't believe her lies!" Beatrice shouted.
"She'll do the same to you!" Jamie wheezed. "She'll turn on you when she's tired of playing queen!"
For a moment, some people looked uncertain. The lies sounded so real, so painful.
But then someone in the crowd laughed.
"You think we're stupid?" a baker called out.
"Our queen saved us from people like you!" a mother holding her baby said.
"She gave us homes! Food! Safety!" another person shouted.
Landon's face went red. This wasn't working like he planned.
"You're all fools!" he screamed. "She's using you!"
That's when the first tomato hit him in the face.
Then came the rotten eggs. Then more tomatoes. The crowd started throwing whatever they could find.
"Liars!" people shouted.
"How dare you say bad things about our queen!"
"She saved us!"
"You should suffer forever for what you did!"
"Get out of our city!"
The crowd got angrier and angrier. They threw more things and cursed at them. Mud, vegetables, stones , anything they could grab.
Landon wiped tomato from his face, spitting seeds. "You idiots! She's fooled you all!"
But nobody listened. The people of Mesodomica loved their queen. They remembered how she took them in, gave them new lives, protected them from monsters and Lystra.
"She gave us hope!" someone yelled.
"She's the best queen!"
"You're just jealous because she's better than you!"
Hellena tried to shield herself from the flying vegetables. "Listen to us! We're telling the truth!"
"The truth is you're evil!" a young man shouted back.
Landon and the others tried to run away, but they couldn't. The crowd of people wouldn't let them move. They surrounded them, throwing things and shouting angry words.
Even though they were powerful werewolves, the common people were too many for them. Hands grabbed at them, pulling them back when they tried to escape.
"Let us go!" Annabelle screamed.
"Never!" the crowd roared back.
Just when there was a small opening to escape, when the crowd parted for just a second, they were suddenly stopped.
Three people stood blocking their way.
One had long silver hair and bright red eyes that seemed to glow. Another had blue hair and blue eyes like the ocean. The third had silver hair and blue eyes like ice.
They stood perfectly still, but power radiated from them.
The crowd went quiet. Even Landon stopped struggling.
Someone in the crowd whispered, "Isn't that the Lenica family features?" pointing to the one with red eyes and silver hair.
