Chapter 80: Raphael was never the problem
Ava’s POV
“ Do you want to know something?” Alasia asked gleefully. She looked too happy meaning whatever she had to share had to do with me.
I decided to ignore her. She snapped her fingers and my head twirled to the left where she was standing beside me now.
“ Do you want to listen now?” she asked darkly. It's not like I have a choice. I nod at her.
“ Words, human. Use words!” She seethed out. She looked ugly. Her eyes sank in, turning hollow and completely black. This woman is evil.
“ Yes.”
“ Yes, what?” What now? What kind of temperamental witch is this?
“ Yes, Alasia.” That should be good right?
“ You are to call me,your eminence.” She is certainly mad. But, I avoid torture, I will do it.
“ Yes, your eminence.” She transforms into a gorgeous smile and she is looking all beautiful and well put together again.
“ Raphael and I almost got married.” She pauses to watch me, gauging my reaction.
“ Yes, you said that before you eminence,” I said, trying my best not to sound sarcastic.
“ That's great. Just watch. I will tell you everything later.” Okay, I will add madness to the list in my head. For once, there I thought he was going to tell me something great.
And as we watched, Alasia stood frozen, her hands trembling at her sides. The glow of the candlelight swaying against her face, highlighting the pink dusting her cheeks.
She swallowed hard, eyes darting everywhere but at Raphael, as if afraid that meeting his gaze would make her knees buckle. Yeah, gaze at my mate. I wanted to snarl.
Yet, I couldn't say it, so I just watched, unwillingly, heart pounding against my ribcage with suppressed anger. She looked… timid. Shy. Flustered. Is that a liking of Raphael's? Timid, shy girls.
“ You look like you might murder the girl,” she said, chuckling. You meant you. I want to murder you, not her.
The bed was only a few steps away from them. Is she going to force me to watch them do their things? If I was still in my body, I would be flushing to my roots.
“ Umm… your eminence, I think this is a private moment for them.” I am not a pervert, Alasia. I wanted to scream that.
“ She is me. And I don't mind you watching.” She is definitely a psycho.
She starts laughing hysterically. “ You look like you would like to strangle me. I have never had such a good laugh in awhile,” she said, wiping invisible tears from her eyes.
Just maybe, I would have felt sorry for her. But for the past months I have been in that cell, it has not been funny, the evil deeds she had done are limitless. So I don't feel any remorse for her.
She snaps her hands again and once again, I am looking ahead. She was treating me like a puppet and it was annoying. Well, what can I say? She got the power now.
Raphael didn’t move. He simply watched her, waiting. He looked so in love. Almost as though he was being controlled, yet the air around him was thick, charged, like a storm waiting to break.
“You are nervous.” His voice was gentle but firm.
Alasia's fingers twitched at her sides. “I…no, I just…” She inhaled shakily. “It’s nothing.”
A lie.
Even I, standing as a helpless spectator, could see it.
Raphael stepped closer, tilting her chin up with a single finger. “You do not have to pretend with me, Alasia.”
Her lips parted slightly, her breath hitching. My stomach twisted. I hated this. Hated how easily he saw through her. Hated how much he seemed to… care.
But before anything else could unfold, the scene dissolved into shadows. Looks like she didn't like me seeing their intimate moment after all.
My vision blurred for a bit and the next moment, my spirit yanked forward. Like I was being dragged into a wormhole. It was extremely dark, and unbelievably hurt.
When the world reassembled itself, Alasia was no longer in the palace. She sat in a grand, dimly lit hall, one I had never seen before. Seven figures towered before her, seated in a perfect semi-circle.
“They are the coven elders. Just in case you are curious.” Coven elders?
“ You are the queen right?” I questioned, a little too curious for my liking.
“ Yes, I was the coven queen. Controlled by the seven elders. So, I was more a puppet with seven masters than a queen.” Once again, I feel pity in my heart for her.
What could they have done to this warm Alasia that Raphael loved so much? To have made her become so evil.
“ Why did you let them control you? You are queen. Your words are supposed to be law right?” I could hear the pity and sorrow in my voice.
Spirit Alasia became quiet for a while until she finally spoke. “ Most Queens just wear paper crowns instead of a real crown.” She was among the queens that wore paper crowns. She floats away and my heart aches for her more.
The air in the room became charged with ancient power. Smoke curled from the incense burning at the center of the room. The scent of crushed herbs and aged parchment filled my lungs.
Alasia sat stiffly, her hands clasped tightly in her lap. She looked so lost and broken. A contrast to how happy she was with Raphael.
“You must move quickly, my queen.” one of the elders spoke, his voice deep and rough like he was purposefully shifting old stones.
“Yes,” another chimed in. “Time is not on our side. If the king does not wed you soon, our coven will remain at the mercy of those who see us as nothing more than outcasts.”
A woman with silver-streaked hair leaned forward, her eyes sharp. “Do not forget, child, this is about more than love. This is about survival. Besides, you weren't sent to the king since childhood to fall in love with him.”
Alasia’s lips parted, hesitation flickering across her face. Then she bowed her head dejectedly. I see tears drop on the palms, she placed on her lap. These evil leeches. And they called themselves elders?
They are obviously manipulating her! Using her role as the queen against her to watch her emotions.
“ Alasia,” I called out softly. Spirit Alasia was nowhere to be found.
My breath caught.
So this wasn’t just about Raphael. This was about power. They just wanted the King's power. Not for the coven but obviously for themselves.
“ You feel pity for me, little wolf?” Alasia asked, floating above me. A smirk on her lips. I would be lying if I said I didn't, but I won't be letting her know.
“ What exactly did they want from you?” I whispered out.
“ It's easy. They wanted me to bewitch the king. So they sent me to the palace since I was a child and Raphael was just a hundred years old.” The way she said it nonchalantly, I knew it was more painful than she was painting it.
“ How old were you when you were sent into the palace?”
“ Fifteen eons,” she smiled brightly. They sent a fifteen year old girl to a hundred year old man?
“ Don't look so shocked,” she waved off. “ You ain't so young yourself, little wolf.” No, I am not. I am currently a twenty-one year old lady mated to a nine hundred or even more Lycan king.
Well, you can add my past life, so I have an advantage she didn't have. Looks like she suffered as well and then became a villain.
“ Raphael was never the problem.”
