Chapter Forty

Spending a few days at home would have been a good way to run away from the place and find a strategy. Just as I am thinking about what to do next my mother in law calls me she is super excited about our honeymoon and wants to hear more just as mom had been. I can’t believe Cullen really locked me up in here so he could go who knows where to do who knows what and then he laid to both my parents and his that he had taken me on a two weeks honeymoon. They thought I was having fun while the whole time I was starving.
My mother in law goes on talking happily and I know she must be smiling right now mighty proud of her son and happy for me
“Daughter, I love calling you that now knowing you’re my daughter in the eyes of law” Mrs. Cedric teases me
“I have and will always be your daughter, mother”
“And that reminds me, although I can’t soon you as soon as I would like to but it’s the first Sunday of the month and there is the usual family Sunday dinner. You and your husband cannot miss it, please remind him so he doesn’t say he forgot again and arrive in the middle of dinner looking like he came from a sewer. I know you’re used to our family dinner but you will be coming as an in law now, it’s going to be special since it’s your first dinner as Mr. and Mrs. Cyrus Cinnati. I will have something special and I invited your parents over so please tell your husband his in-laws will be here and he should make an effort; pass that massage to your husband please”
“Yes mom”
We laugh and say goodbye after we have made fun of the almost missed it family dinner that Cyrus had arrived in all sorts of ways and with all sorts of excuses. Our conversation however leaves me in a state of little worries, I wasn’t worried about the dinner since I have always been in attendance but she painted a clear picture that things will be different now. I am Mrs. Cinnati and Cyrus’s wife; I will be in attendance as the first daughter in-law of the family. I guess it’s a good thing my parents will be there too.
I have lunch with Margret and she talks about Sicily when she was young, how she fell in love with her husband who later came over as a soldier so she followed him here and they soon got married.
“I am sure your kids don’t tire of hearing their parent’s story, of how you met and fell in love”
“Oh no dear, we don’t have any kids”
“Oh!” I exclaim surprised she doesn’t have children
“We wanted to, Antony loves kids and we wanted to have five. A lot I know but god didn’t bless us with kids, we tried the scientific way but we weren’t lucky enough and I just couldn’t have kids” she says slowly like she is somewhere different in her head, I could kick myself
“Oh my god I am so sorry, I shouldn’t have asked it wasn’t my place. You are just so motherly and you have a lot of love I just assumed you had kids. I am so sorry” I quickly apologize
“It’s okay, don’t apologize. It’s just as you said, I have a lot of love and I enjoy giving it too. I can’t wait to help you with the little Cinnatis in the house, just making it quick before I am too old to be running around after them.” She says with a smile but I can sense she is serious about the last part.
“We haven’t talked about it yet, we are still young anyway and we want to spend a little while being free for a while before we have little people to take care of.”
“Okay but take my advice and don’t take too long” she says with a wink and starts collecting dishes
“Can I help you with that?”
“With the dishes? No, you’re the princess and my boss wife; I can’t let you do my work”
“I was actually hoping you could teach me cooking and cleaning after myself? I just recently found out that I wouldn’t survive if there was an epidemic and I was the last human alive” Margret smiles and takes me in for a surprising hug
“Of course I will teach you princess, I am so glad you want to learn how to take care of your husband, I am sure he would appreciate the effort”
“I am not doing it for his big stupid head” I find myself saying. Is she only knew the anger I am holding inside me for Cyrus right now, I could explode.
“Of course you’re not my dear, of course you’re not” she says patting my hand like she thinks I am lying and she doesn’t believe me. Mmh.
By the time Cyrus finally showed up I had already had dinner, put on a piece of swimming costume with tight skinny jeans, a tight t-shirt and a huge jacket that I stole from Cullen when we were sixteen. I want as much distance as I can put between us, I don’t want him to get any ideas or have easy access and I don’t want his touch to melt my resolve.
He comes inside and for whatever reason he is startled to find me sitting there waiting for him. I mean he doesn’t know I am waiting for him, he probably thinks I just stayed up late to watch a movie. He smiles and start heading my way, I know what that smiles means and what he wants to do but I have to react faster than he does. I stand up and let him come to me and when he reaches close to me I slap him hard.
